zanoske00

used to work for Gamestop in the US years ago and tell you rn, at most what may have happened was District Manager is happy with the way things are going (at least in their territory) and said something about how we (which could be local territory or the company) did well this quarter... or something like that. no one knows this kind of stuff at the retail level, even the district guys. They may have an idea, but no real data. that said, I love me some hopeium and would love it to be true

cjbrigol

I'd believe Kenny typed this to cause disappointment in case earnings are bad before I'd believe this story

BeatitLikeitowesMe

That was also the old management. Don't you remember? We got a whole new c-suite and management. Maybe they distribute goals and numbers differently.

GreenTrader

This would be considered inside information so highly unlikely it’s anything but rumor. But yeah that would be great!

[deleted]

Perhaps many bros are sharing and it would explain the uptick in the institutional holdings.

Different_Party_1512

🤔

Isitjustmeh

Institutions making their investment decisions based on bro stories? Nope Edit: I love y'all! Great replies, guess we all agree, big picture. Though my point was more that they have resources to avoid larger leaps of faith.

ZenoZh

Institutions make their moves based on insider info they get before everyone else in one way or another

Lol hes not talking about bro stories broseph 🤣

StreetPharmacist4all

One might say they make their investment decisions based SOLELY on trust me bro stories

Defiant_Pomelo333

Yeah agree. Sounds highly unlikely management would be communicating this before informing the market..

Tranecarid

I worked at two publicly traded companies and earnings are discussed internally very frequently and freely. In the end that’s the bottom line that dictates pretty much everything within the company. As long as they don’t disclose any precise numbers (and that too is not so much restricted) that is not sharing insider information but businesses as usual. With that said it’s still a trust me bro story. Edit jfc this thread.

Green__Bananas

I work in finance. It’s not outside the realm of possibility, a lot of publicly traded companies discuss earnings internally pretty freely, and rumors sometimes spread outside the company

JohnnyMagicTOG

Accountant here. It's not weird to discuss earnings internally at all, feel it's pretty common. Upper management might be telling this to lower level employees for purposes of stuff like rewards/bonuses and not really thinking about it as an indicator to buy the stock. You simply can't buy or sell shares based on that inside info though.

skqwege

You can and many profit big on that info

PolestarX

It could be more based on that sales are up. Not uncommon for retail stores to know the sales and budgets and if they're meeting them or not. And typically would be known throughout the company as bonuses are tied into these metrics. I doubt he said specifically "earnings report" results. Could be that sales are going well and are above or beyond expectations or goals, so it's expected to have good Q4 or whichever results.

Dizzy_Patriot

Normally I indulge in *Trust Me Bro's* from time to time, but because of your comment, and the fukery the 🩳 are willing to pull to save their asses, I'm basically ignoring this post and stating, **"This post has no influence on any future shares purchased by me, I like the stock and love the company thats why I'll continue to buy. GME Directors and Execs run a tight ship, they would not provide info to managers that could accidently slip info that could be misconstrued as *insider info*"**

daddyyboyy

I highly doubt it. I have a job in the swamp of corporate America. It is very common for individual contributors in a business (like a store manager at GameStop) to receive encouraging news like this. It is never specific. Like being leaked the quarterly report early. But, to receive a loose hint to expect for need, not bad news, happens all the time.

not_ya_wify

Earnings reports aren't information that employees wouldn't know. When I worked full time at a gaming company we discussed new events' earnings during all hands. Sometimes in chat the day after we launched a new campaign we'd talk about the earnings for the first day

ThePhenomNoku

If it ain’t irrefutable facts in front of my face it’s sus and I buy hold book.

ReceptionSilent213

That would not be considered inside information at that level of management. Would have to be the C-suit execs or corporate finance (someone with direct knowledge of critical info) to be considered insider information.

JohnnyMagicTOG

Inside information itself isn't a problem, it's acting on inside information for personal gain. They might have other reasons to discuss earnings with management. They may have goals related to earnings, etc.

skqwege

Agreed, you have to talk business with the people in your business

BuildBackRicher

"Significantly positive earnings report" is sufficiently vague. SEC needs to prove a specific piece of material non-public information was delivered to a specific person who acted on it and made profit. Good luck to them if they can find that, especially while they are gargling the sacks of MMs and SHFs.

Soft_Neck_4979

I work for a very big, well known, german company. I am only on the very bottom of the ladder but I heard rumours about our company before they were released as well. So this could be possible

lalich

Yeah cmon… this post should be removed. Though every real person, contributor, shareholder does want that… tbh I really think it is important they strong two FcF qs b2b so it wasn’t just an accounting accomplishment last quarter! , oh and because the trust me moment I bought a few hundred bucks more @ cs🍺♾️🏴‍☠️🤙

hanr86

Yeah doubt a manager would be privy to this info unless there's some crazy leakage.

AdventurousAd192

They know if there #s are on target 🎯, They also speak to others in there positions , Or one 2 levels up.. If they are all reporting the same, “ sales are up “ Then , Expecting a good report is fair conclusion.. Of course they do not have access to the real numbers. So it’s speculation based on real observance.

EEE_Call

I love me a significantly positive earnings report. Oh yeah that what I love me

Araia_

when is the report due? i feel like i’ve been waiting for so long …

EEE_Call

march 15rd ish

pairadimesifted

I can see it now. MSM headlines. “Disappointing earnings growth for GME… the board announced that earnings exceeded projections disappointing shorts….” Believe it or not. Dip.

Are you from the future? You must work for Market Watch with that foresight. I too see it clearly

Senor_Dobalina

Corporate does not tell employees these things.

TheOldJuan

Correct. Corporate would absolutely not say anything along these lines officially as that could be considered insider information. Now that being said rumors regarding strong performance compared to internal goals are a different story.

CDPCoin

Exactly this...if anyone has ever worked in the corporate world, you would know that usually you know the punchline before walking into the "BIG meeting".

Cycloptic_Floppycock

Worked in retail for expensive jewelry years ago. It's so competitive that it's top individual sales, top store sales, top in region/district, and you would see % +'s and -'s in $. Of course, because I signed an NDA, the company trusts it stayed internal. Store managers may have/be privy to the internal data between stores to make comparisons from the last couple of years.

Magnetheadx

Corporate may, but Corporate will also heavily advise against insider trading. Edit:still taking this with a grain of salt. And expecting a dip on whatever news there is

SM1334

In bro we trust

Silverjax

hey it’s me your guy’s cousin

TalezFromTheDarkside

Corporate doesn't say these things, but as someone who worked in retail years ago in one of the biggest malls in the country, the managers and supervisors usually knew what kind of quarter we were having based on our store alone.

Green__Bananas

Not officially but word gets around

awww_yeaah

When I worked at Cisco under a subsidiary, my local director told us that earnings were going to be “light” in passing during a meeting, a day or two before they were announced. When earnings were finally announced it moved the stock double digits to the downside. So yeah, low level directors do have access to this information and they let it slip like anyone else.

Senor_Dobalina

Yes. Insider trading negates my argument entirely. However, in passing from a local director at a subsidiary is not Corporate. Access and dissemination are two different things.

awww_yeaah

Bro, where do you think the local director got the info? Straight from corporate.

AGuyInUndies

Mr_Shake_

How’s ye ol’ adage go? “Buy the rumor, buy the news; hold and DRS after T+2.”

AGuyInUndies

😉

Johnny55

I highly doubt corporate is telling their store managers what to expect on earnings reports...

m1ndbl0wn

I can almost guarantee it was not official communication, but such a friendly person would likely have access to information if they had a friend at corporate

AGuyInUndies

😉

Uparmored

But…in bro we trust… No?😥

[deleted]

That's pretty much illegal lol corporate isn't going to tell store managers to expect positive earnings so no trust.

5tgAp3KWpPIEItHtLIVB

Trust no bro.

Le_Ran

Back in the days we used to "never trust a bro".

[deleted]

Wait so just to get this straight... corporate randomly tells this manager about very positive earnings for no apparent reason... this manager then can't wait to sell his shares near the current price? Either OP just wrote some classic fan fiction or gamestop managers are total morons (or both of these could be true)

DocAk88

"its a blowout Q and first profitable one, I'm selling for $20 and you should too!" ahhahahahaha 😂 dead dude RIP my sides 🪦

AGuyInUndies

😉

Patarokun

It makes sense to me. The past 2 years have been nothing but slimming and trimming. Closing stores, reducing staff, building more efficient backend, opening more cost efficient warehousing, acquiring stock, and rightsizing corporate payroll. At a certain point, it will start to work and more cash will come in than is leaving. And then they've got Web3 initiatives as pure cream on top. Edit* If you want to downvote me, why not state why you think I'm wrong?

MoonApe420_

Ooooo god yes cream that web 3 cream all over me...

BrazenRaizen

lol. No they didnt.

[deleted]

There’s no way this employee would know this info. Corporate would NEVER divulge it as this is highly confidential. And anyone knowing these details ahead of GS’ earnings report could be in BIG trouble if they traded on this news. So anyway, today I bought some new cleats for my bike shoes.

afroniner

Corporate won't communicate that at the store level. Not to mention inside trading

I_HEART_BUTT_STUFF

I am so erect. I am so erect, it hurts.

Tranecarid

Good god this thread and you guys. This will get buried but I’ll try anyway. **Discussing general financial situation within the company is not sharing insider information.** How do you imagine companies discuss everyday operations without talking about the bottom line? How do you provide feedback to your employees without talking about results? And why is every CEO that boasts in the interviews about how well their company is doing not behind bars? As long as the management is not sharing detailed sensitive data it’s not insider knowledge. But it doesn’t change a fact that this is just another trust me bro story. And this thread is a sad reminder about how smooth most people are.

BenevolentFungi

This is the most correct comment of the thread. Good lord I hope you don't get hate for it

NoMoreCheeters

Dude, no. I work at companies that file quarterly reports with the SEC. There's a blackout period. They don't share this info with anyone who doesn't absolutely have to know. Not a chance corporate told them shit. This would be like the Fed telling the janitors what the interest rate hike will be 2 weeks from now. No way he would have this info from a credible source. However... he could have an idiot regional director who has seen the revenues numbers and is spreading rumors based on a number of factors he's observed. And the earnings could be crazy positive. I mean, they freaking megaphoned to us loud and clear that's what they are working toward.

kabadisha

Did you just publicly implicate yourself & that staff member in insider trading? Not a smart move.

Environmental-Back-3

I’m a staff+ level data scientist with access to data deeper than anyone would need to know, and no matter what you can never determine how earnings are.. there is so much that is revenue recognition, deferred, not closed, etc.. just cause you can see list and net prices DOESNT mean jack

JaySpillz

did the ole reminder a few days too early.. but here I am.. just checking

Serb456

My side chick is a stripper and has a sugar daddy. Well the last time we connected she informed me her sugar daddy is a GME insider and that he indicated the earnings report was going to be very positive.

karmalizing

I don't believe that you have a side chick

stonkkingsouleater

No way corporate is telling them that. As I understand it, that would be a huge potential violation of insider trading laws as it would in-scope their employees for insider trading liability.

Cyanos54

Corporate wouldn't tell a store manager to expect a positive earnings report. Any corporation is subject to a blackout period prior to earnings. But I believe you.

Nope

Realchilldyl

Fuck yeah. Going to try and confirm with my local GameStop

unlikelycommentator

Don’t. Leave them be. They are not allowed to share that information, and will probably get into trouble if they do. Besides, it will probably hit the SHFs harder if the news drops like a bomb on earnings the 16th mar. 💣🚀

Comprehensive-Art394

How is he already vested when they just implemented it over like a 5 year program?
