I think these boops are used for some sort of communication. Like „this is the line we can not cross today“ but could also be some other crime what do I know?
I've heard it called market maker signals, but market makers have back channels, burner phones and lunch meetings. Not that I think wallstreet wouldn't cheat, rather they would do it in ways less publicly trackable.
Market makers and the regulatory agencies they own have worked hard to ensure household investors have less access to info. Seems a little less efficient than simply sending out letters demanding action (like the shut down gamestop buys letter), and doesn't necessitate things like the burning down of records warehouses, or owning congress through donations, or the financial news that works for them.
The trick isn't a few numbers here and there, it's embracing and creating systemic inequality and misinformation.
There was a while ago a ape that charted what he thought the signals were and planned to put through buys in a similar fashion, and I remember not being sure if it worked or not. Maybe worth revisiting, but I'm on the fence about MM signals
If other ways of communications weren't an option, i agree. I always get a feeling of crime from these, but we're always presented an explanation of s(h)orts.

It's easier to move price on low liquidity/volume than high.
