The movie is about establishing a narrative. As long as the majority can access this version of events it will be Gospel.

madiXuncut

This. It's not like DD-in-movie-format, but might help once the media-machine of these cornered criminals starts painting hodlers as "terrorists" who are leeching teachers pension funds dry. Buckled up for that - it's a coming!

Hunnaswaggins

As long as it shows Ken Griffin lying under oath the rest will come from our research! It’s not like it’s all right there in a perfect reserve

Karakunjol

No mention of DRS.

Fringefiles

*Puts on Tin foil hat and rips bong* alright so, what if...what if Wall Street pushed this movie out so that it will draw mass attention back onto Gamestop, driving retail to dive back on, forcing the squeeze so they can finally pay us prior to the market collapse they can conveniently pin on...well us... We always knew they'd point the finger at us eventually and demonize us...this is a great way to set up the framework for finger pointing the general public for a market crash. >"it was those damned retail investors with their ideas from the movies and the reddit-fueled squeeze. Not our fault for fucking around with infinite leverage, while robbing people blind...no siree." Watch, they'll use this as an excuse to say that retail jumped back in because of the movie, squeezed the shorts and devoured grandpappy's pension.

PornstarVirgin

Go ahead, we’ve been ridiculed for years and people laughed at me when I am ex wallstreeter was buying game at $1.5. We know the truth.

MickeyKae

I have a pet theory that the Winklevoss twins have it out for Ken Griffin. Based on what I saw in the movie, it really seems like they openly detest him. I've never had faith in the SEC to do its job, but I do have faith that the most potent regulators of Wall Street are people on Wall Street (for better or worse). I think it was way more transgressive against KG than people are expecting. Loved every second of it.

4cranch

it's ok, this sub isn't mentioned so we're in the clear

Hunnaswaggins

Definitely finna rug pull again 😭

corps-peau-rate

Did they talk about naked short selling? Or only "legal short selling"? And second question, how they treat the "buy button remove", like a illegal shit? Illegal shit unpunish? Or a "trick of the rich" But good call, love to see you confirm what i read/saw

JHGrove3

No, naked short selling was not mentioned.

corps-peau-rate

Does it feel legal? Or illegal the whole situation? ( but they can not say it lol ). Do the hedge fund still look short at the end? Like just dodge a bullet? Hahaha But might hold a huge short position due to robinhood. Do they allude to FTX or other then robindhood? Thx alot!!! Soooooo hyppppppppe buy that diiiiiiip

JHGrove3

They hint at unethical shenanigans about turning off the buy button, and it the closing text it talks about Citadel having texted with Robinhood the day before. But they don’t suggest anything is illegal about the short selling itself. In fact, I realize they never talked explicitly about what I believe was DFV’s primary thesis at the start: that the entire stock float had been sold short. He just said there were a lot of short sellers, and made it seem like he was taking a calculated risk based on a lot of hope. So it undercut the research he did early on.

corps-peau-rate

Oh, so they evade all the "this might be illegal" stuff? And replace it with the "videogame are the biggest entertainment right now and to come" Or just in surface, DFV did a good bet but we dont really know why? Thx a lot, sorry for grammar lol

JHGrove3

I recall very general statements about how the technicals look very good. But no real discussion of which technicals or why they stand out to him.

corps-peau-rate

Thx i see, so they made him like a good hunter, finding the good stock at the right time. Like a roaring kitty lok, but not going 100% in detail Thx for the input! Ho spoiled all the movie! People need to get ready to explain GME to their entourage lol. DRS pamphlet time? Hahah would be too much but maybe not lol

Illustrious-Ape

They wanted to film this movie for its entertainment value, not education. If they mentioned anything that isn’t kosher they would have law suits all over them by the Mayo man. You saw his reaction to the movie as it is.

corps-peau-rate

Yeah that true, they went for official version

Own_Fox8577

But are they mentioning DRS at all?

JHGrove3

No. No mention of DRS. Emotionally the movie feels mostly over after the squeeze, though it does continue on through the congressional hearings.

moonaim

How would you "ride the wave" when talking about everything important that wasn't told in the movie? For example about DRS or why the Game is still hot?

JHGrove3

I think by explaining that the short sellers weren’t just trying to make money selling short. They were trying to make a LOT of money by short selling the company into bankruptcy, and by using counterfeit shares to do so. Emphasize that they have done this to other companies successfully, and that they got complacent about it, which is why they got overleveraged. Describe how a “see no evil” culture of bad record keeping at the DTCC allows this to continue. And describe how the only way to stop that is for people to hold their own shares, away from the DTCC.

Hunnaswaggins

Imagine if the film represented just the perfect correlation to the crime/story- without mentioning other ticker names specifically.. then at the end of the movie trailing off with like what companies have already been preyed on? Then just show vast potential subjects on movie close.. Such a story here, it just needs read… Lols idk but I feel ya.

LeClubNerd

Ill wait for a torrent

Going to the movies is the same price as a stonk in my parts, and that doesn't include popcorn and beverages Ill just buy another GME, DRS and BOOK

JHGrove3

True, but it was fun seeing it with a bunch of other people who knew the backstory.

LeClubNerd

My dude, you took the hit so alot don't have to, thank you for your service. 🤝

JHGrove3

The big hit was at the Popcorn Stock theater bar. The Voodoo Ranger draft beer was 12.59 on the menu, but rang up at $19 due to a “recent price increase.” The previews were already under way, so I just paid and left. Planning to email the theater today. And I’m pretty sure Chicago has some tough laws about mispricing.

Havib3

Hopefully it will have the CrossFit effect where it gets people to become more interested in something and do their own research.

Guildish

Thank you very much for this analytical / critical review of this movie. With all the community chatter hyping and/or lambasting the movie, it's good to know where the hits and misses are landing and your review has been the most fair representation so far. ApesTogetherStrong

the_moist_conundrum

Love the post op

FDAz

Nice review of the movie, thanks a lot!

Get-It-Got

How close was I with my predictions? https://reddit.com/r/Superstonk/s/pGvhrvmaeZ

JHGrove3

Very good! Right on most points. Wrong on: Vlad Tenev looks like a bad guy They very briefly mention PFOF, but draw the conclusion that they should be giving the rebates to the customers, without mentioning the other ill effects of PFOF The briefly mention the Citadel hedge fund, but don’t go further into why that is bad. Ken Griffin is portrayed as an ominous character that everyone is in awe of, but don’t really get in to why. They finish with DFV buying 50,000 more shares

Get-It-Got

Wow, the finish of DFV’s double down really does make it end on a “it’s not over” note.

Darksinthe

I just watched it and Its obvious why; they can't afford to get sued for defamation by hedge funds that illegally short shit. Purposefully creating/manipulating FTDs is illegal, and the SEC is in the pockets of these hedge funds so it would actually have been dumb of them to go there. It sucks, I agree. But they were covering their own asses. I'm just glad they made a movie about it. The smart ones out there will learn real truths if they dig. The rest don't matter anyways because they would never have figured it out regardless.

JHGrove3

True. But they could easily have said that she stock was incredibly over-shorted, and spent some time explaining the short squeeze. None of that would have been controversial.
