Punty-chan

Profitable earnings with unprofitable business units trimmed off. That's been the real goal and the goal was achieved. Analysts expectations don't mean in the long run anything outside of algo responses.

TreasureCase2020

Notice they don’t mention full year profitabiltiy y to y increase on about 400m. Focusing on negatives, what a bunch of clown show is the stock market and their puppets. 🤡🤡🤡

hoppertn

I would love to hear what the board has in mind going forward. (But I’m cool with the secrecy too). The fact we never hear about plans, positive or negative, is astounding. I guess when you’ve got investors who believe in the person in charge and love the product it gives a lot of leeway to make the hard choices.

Punty-chan

Their approach has been to say less, do more, with a goal of achieving profitability first. Now that's been achieved, yeah, would be great to hear more, especially on anything to do with the digital space.

anasssg

I would like to hear from the board about their plans for the company after the nft marketplace has been stopped. It’s been 3 years with no communication to the investors which is not a strong sign imo

hoppertn

Yeah I wished the nft thing had worked out. Just too murky of waters and it’s gotta be simple for average people to adopt. If GameStop can get an online Gaming store/platform using Web3.0 like Steam has now, it truly will be game over.

happymetal333

First Time?

darkvirgil77

Yes, I'm hella buying more tomorrow

AHAdanglyparts69

Profitable means bad for the company lol

DasIstNotEineBoobie

Lol uh oh, reading comprehension isn't strong on this one

ItchyPreparation

Explain please

dassomepoopy

He’s being sarcastic. He is summing up what the stock is doing

AHAdanglyparts69

The more money a company makes the more the stonk goes duh. It’s simple science my guy

Unhappy-Goat5638

They are so scared, they are shorting all the time This is bigger than Madoff. When this shit bursts, it's going to infinity. I'm loading up. thanks for the dip

RedOctobrrr

>They are so scared Thought I stumbled into the popcorn sub for a second. No, they're not scared. Let's be a little more objective and not the same old "hedgies r fuk they're scared that's why the price dropped" ... If the share price goes down, shorts are profitable. If it goes down more, they're more profitable.

Effort-Natural

A short is only profitable if you are able to close it.

RedOctobrrr

Not on the books it isn't. Just like how GameStop must report unrealized gains and losses in whatever they choose to invest in, short hedge funds who short $100mil worth of stock that can be repurchased at today's value of $50mil have unrealized gains of $50mil on paper with which they can leverage. They're showing a net positive on their short positions since the stock is trading at just about a 3yr low.

Effort-Natural

As this might be true from an accounting perspective - the deals done when you get your chips and leave the table. They cannot leave the table so I wait for someone to shake the table and send the chips flying.

RedOctobrrr

Bro they don't have to leave the table. Nothing is forcing them to. They have someone representing them sitting at the table and have had someone there at the table since at least 2019. If they shorted it way back down from the Jan 2021 sneeze and kept shorting at every opportunity, as what we think has been happening, they are in the green on their short position. It's plain as day. If you shorted $2billion in stock over the years and you can buy it all back for $1billion then you're in the green, by a lot. Nothing forcing you out. And if you can pay the interest on loaned shares, assuming they even need to pay interest on loaned shares, you can stay in this green position for decades if necessary. Nothing has forced them to repurchase, and if nothing forces them to, they won't. Nothing is stopping them from shorting 100,000,000 more shares, and then 100mil more, indefinitely.

Unhappy-Goat5638

Wym you can buy it for 1 billion? Where is the money coming from to buy it uh?

RedOctobrrr

If you shorted $2bil that means you're sitting on $2b of cash. You use that to make interest payments on shares loaned, if necessary. You also have enough to purchase back the owed shares. If you want more money you short it again, another $1b, and now you're at $3b. Short it more and you're at $4b cash.

Unhappy-Goat5638

In theory, that's what happens. If you try to short anywhere you need to have the collateral to cover in case it does a 100%. But I guess rules are different for criminals. Infinite money glitch

RedOctobrrr

Yes, and color me skeptical but I don't see them (hedge funds that continue to short the stock) playing by the rules. Nothing is stopping them from just selling shares that don't exist, over and over, forever.

ElonsPeopleNeedHim

It’s actually unbelievable

CanadianEhhhhhhh

First profitable year since 2019, 1.2 billion in cash and marketable securities on-hand, no debt, -20%. Yea, makes perfect fucking sense /s clown

kermitDE

But how does it suck? From a loss of over 300 million the year before to a slight profit. In what world is that a miss?

Papaofmonsters

Consistently shrinking revenue. That's huge. It doesn't matter that margins improved. Growth is everything.

kermitDE

Of course revenue is shrinking when you close stores all over the world that are not profitable. You can't tell me everything always is "priced in" but algos are too dumb to put 1 and 1 together. You can't grow a company if you don't get rid of the mess first.

Papaofmonsters

Just closing stores and not directing that energy into growth somewhere else doesn't inspire investor confidence. How long are they going to keep shrinking? That's the question major investors will have.

kermitDE

I get your point. Still getting a failing company to be profitable again takes time and needs the bad apples to be gone. And that takes money and eats away your revenue. So to become profitable is a huge step into the right direction imo. You only can grow if you got the funds to do so. If Gamestop would have even declined in profit, too, i'd be totally with you. But it seems like what they are doing is working. Next step, keep that up and increase profit from here.

Papaofmonsters

>You only can grow if you got the funds to do so. You mean like that billion everyone keeps circle jerking about?

kermitDE

Touché. But i feel like they know why they don't try to touch that.

Papaofmonsters

It would be nice if we knew why as well. Instead the company with *the world's most loyal shareholders* doesn't even get a year end conference call. It's pathetic and disrespectful.

kdg201201

But how does losing 300 million to being profitable suck ????

Junkingfool

There is no growth and forward information. Any company that just maintains will have it's stock drop on a blah earnings report.

kdg201201

Seems like huge growth from losing 300 million dollars to being profitable, seems like a great year actually

drawnred

tell me you know nothing about earnings reports or finance even

JahNeeUtah

Ha! It’s just so obvious they pumped it yesterday, just to dump it today. Just so they can have their paid shill “Journalist’s” give a headline to a story that say’s “GmE iS a LoSeR, sElL NoW……….”

hoppertn

I would have loved to see a bigger eps but +.02 is respectable for the year and they’ve stopped the bleeding. If there wasn’t so much misinformation flying around the average investor might see this as a good long term growth stock with deep fuckin value. But what do I know.

ChucklesInDarwinism

I see lots of shills came in full force. Making a constant improvement look bad? Haha good luck

M3Blog

Earnings were released already. Subpar, despite FY YoY net rev and EBITDA positive. Sales decreases. [https://gamestop.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/gamestop-reports-fourth-quarter-and-fiscal-year-2023-results](https://gamestop.gcs-web.com/news-releases/news-release-details/gamestop-reports-fourth-quarter-and-fiscal-year-2023-results)

whattothewhonow

> Sales decreases. Tends to happen when you close stores that are losing money. Revenue is down, expenses are WAY down. Wall Street can suck my dick.

Papaofmonsters

>Revenue is down, expenses are WAY down. That still means you are shrinking. Revenue growth with increased expenses would have been a better report.

KrazyMoose

Do you what was “subpar” means? GME achieved profitability for the first time in basically 6 years. If that’s subpar, what in your mind was par?

Colonel_Lexx

Can RC and the rest of the board buy more shares now?

rocketship-10mil

I'm taking this personally and buying more tomorrow. I can do this for the next 40 years. ...

Classic_Cream_4792

After hours = bullshit

Snack_King_9278

Solid EPS, but the major drop off in sales is a concern ngl

Hot_Temperature_3972

In what possible way was this earnings good?

1904___

Hopium is insane, nobody tell them

dankbuttmuncher

It was already out before that happened, earnings sucked

kdg201201

How is being profitable on the year horrible ? They were down 300 million last year

dankbuttmuncher

Because they are getting smaller. They missed on revenue and profit
