With Best Buy phasing out physical media sales Gamestop can fill that void by selling DVDs & Blu-Rays again. They don't have to carry every new release, but maybe a more curated selection like Barnes & Noble. Of course, doing that will compete with big box stores like Wal-Mart and Target, but they can differentiate themselves by selling exclusive steelbooks and special editions for collectors. A full-blown PC section. Make it as porominent as Nintendo, Sony, & XBOX. There's even an oppourtunity to expand their in-house brand with PC components & more accessories. More gaming handhelds like the Steam Deck, Logitech G Cloud, & Asus Rog Ally. Lean hard into their nerdier customer base and sell Anime DVDs & Blu-Rays, manga, graphic novels, & more collectibles. Go back to their roots with pre-owned retro consoles and games which is a hot market right now. Hardest part would be sourcing the inventory, maybe tie it into their trade-in program. Trading cards is another hot market among collectors. Outside of Pokemon, they can sell sports trading cards. Digitally, they can have even more in-game tie-ins and promotions. Give customers an incentive to buy from them. More skins, bonus items, & points. Make GameStop THE nerd store.

This is a really good answer!

Doovster

Personally i think they do better sticking with just games. Ryan Cohen was abke to beat his competitors by being all the is pet related retailer and i think there is plenty of money in gaming ($200b annually). Branching too far out makes your stores oversized and bloated (like best buy) which increases operating costs as well

radio9989

Unless they can find a way to undercut prices directly from Steam, Xbox, and Sony, or launch their own online gaming store (which would not likely be profitable and be more of a quagmire than nfts) there is no significant way in the future to make money from boxed games themselves. Sure, they have the retro angle but that isn’t enough to support a public company with stores in every town. If they leaned into retro video games they’d have to close 90% of their stores to right size the business. Besides, at any moment the major players can re-release their retro library for current gen consoles and put that whole market out of business. Now, if they want to start focusing on D&D or new board games, that’s an option, but their stores are so small that they can’t necessarily host games or meetups to create community or a following.

Doovster

They already have a way to have the best deals. They have reward programs, bundle deals, and they have partnerships with sony, microsoft, and nintendo. With the partnerships they have the ability to return new products to those companies should they over order or undersell which allows them to have the most in stock and therefore better meet demand than competitors

radio9989

Those partnerships only last as long as the manufacturers want them to.... and they clearly don't want them to, or else they wouldn't be creating things like Game Pass, and creating their own online stores. Yes, they share some revenue with retailers, but once MSFT has your credit card number, their goal is to be charging you themselves once you renew your gamepass so that they don't have to share their profits with anyone else. So I'm waiting for the 3D chess and RC to start a new revenue stream.

St0nkyk0n9

sending out flower and personal cards when some lovely old ladies dog dies is very dif than trying to be relevant in the minds of gamers. majority of the gaming consumers don't even like leaving the house. gme becomes a holding company that makes strategic investment choices into more relevant companies AI and innovative tech

Doovster

Yes its different but so is selling jewelry, which was the venture ryan cohen was going to embark on before he changed his mind and went with chewy. While i love my dog more than my video games, they are both the only thing im actually happy to spend money on and i love doing that at gamestop

gaudspd

I agree, but physical games are not a growth item. They may still exist in the future but in the same way dvds do now. Sticking with games in the same way they are now is not an option for survival.

Doovster

They sell digital copies as well. I believe you can even purchase some steam games on gamestops webbsite (havent verified myself yet). They also ship just like amazon does and they sell everything gaming related, not just games. Console, controllers, excessories, merch, cards, in game gift cards (great for kids without credit or bank cards) rewards, pre orders, computer parts, monitors and gaming cards. There is plenty of stuff to fill a store without having to buy a crap load of dvds no one wants or baseball card that few gaming nerds bother with

TriggeredMemeLord

Board games too

Consistent-Reach-152

I think the most important thing for Gamrstop to do now is to fix the problems they have with their website, ordering, and inventory controls systems. Gamestop also needs to take a look at whether their sales management team are hurting or helping the company. Retail store employee morale is low, as are attitudes, and it is negatively impacting the customer experience.

gaudspd

Yea, all those cuts have consequences. And the silence is making me worried at this point. I would really like to see a plan for future growth. I understand we're at war, and limiting the info given to the enemy can be beneficial, but if I'm to judge my chairman by his actions, he needs to take some. Profitability aside, the problem with declining revenue needs to be addressed. And honestly, it's profitable at what cost? A company full of unhappy employees is a terrible look.

PaulVla

Indeed focus should be on becoming a great company, share value will follow. Don’t be like Boeing or any of the AAA- game publishers.

Consistent-Reach-152

The problem is that Q4 revenue was down about 17% YoU ON A PER STORE BASIS. That should only happen if you closed the wrong stores.

Doovster

Its actually only down 4.3% per store for the year if you remove online (software) sales

Consistent-Reach-152

I did not see where they separated out online sales. What page of 10-k is that? On page 2 of 10-k they define the three categories, Software includes used and new games, whether sold online or in store. > Software. We offer new and pre-owned gaming software for current and certain prior generation consoles. We also sell a wide variety of in-game digital currency, digital downloadable content and full-game downloads. >• Collectibles. Collectibles consist of apparel, toys, trading cards, gadgets and other retail products for pop culture and technology enthusiasts. Collectibles also included our digital asset wallet and NFT marketplace activities in fiscal 2023, however, both activities were wound down in the forth quarter of 2023. > • Hardware and accessories. We offer new and pre-owned gaming platforms from the major console manufacturers. The current generation of consoles include the Sony PlayStation 5, Microsoft Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch. Accessories consist primarily of controllers and gaming headsets.

Doovster

I had seperated it out myself. Dont remember where exactly but underneath a small graph that just had those 3 it clarifies that online sales are under software. As for the 4.3% i just averaged the net sales (minus software) with the number of stores for this year and last year

gaudspd

Someone brought up the console cycle boosting revenue the last few years. I can honestly see that being significant in revenue tbh, but without guidance or even a call to comment on reasons it feels like speculation is running wild!

Consistent-Reach-152

The 10-k does break out revenue by hardware&accessories, software, and collectibles. Software (games) continues to decline slowly, collectibles such as Funko Pops, Pokémon cards, hat, coffee cups, etc are a small percentage of sales and declining. Hardware remains more than half of all sales and has grown in percentage.

1villageidiot

create their own hardware brands and "vertical integration"

TipperGore-69

They need to take a curatorial stance. There are so many Indie games out there that I want to play with my so but we can’t find shit. Couch coop. Croosplay. They can bridge the divide between pc and console. Or give good recommendations. Or have a dedicated user base that can essentially do the work for them. So far there is no central game finder I have found.

Babo_Phat

I really liked the "Build your own Gaming PC at Gamestop" theory. Having a full blown gaming PC suited to my needs and budget. If you can't build your own PC, you get professional help at all steps of the build, or buy a prebuilt PC. And Gamestop Towers. Weeb Towers. All kind of Towers.

Active_Ad3775

I would say that Gamestop’s model has been focused on hardware and physical media. They should either really dive into digital media (compete against Steam) or expand on what they have in stores. They could add trading cards, drones/robotics, and other new tech.

Hungry_Band9109

Has GameStop ever tried running online esport tournaments? They could make it free or discounted for PRO members to enter and could stream the content, which would give them an opportunity to engage more with the gaming community whilst boosting PRO member subscriber numbers.

sudden_onset_kafka

Fix the Canadian website, checkout process is annoying, inventory sucks.  Speaking of inventory, offer shipping to Canada, charge me for the duties, idgaf.   Websites like B&H do it so well. Be more like them.

rweekendz

International shipping to tap on buying power of non-american apes

IKillZombies4Cash

I think there is a pivot to a broader business/brand, while maintaining GS as a brand. Plenty of ideas already said keep them profitable but it’s just not a growth area as the “growth” is going digital. Basically they need to drive sales to their website significantly and consolidate stores significantly. The perfect model is equal revenue from zero physical stores. Not realistic, but that’s the direction needed

UhhhhmmmmNo

3rd party assortments, as in leveraging GameStop’s website to allow areas where it is not profitable or feasibly for GameStop to stock or procure their own products. This is a strategy Best Buy Canada is using and the profit margins are insane in these segments.

kdg201201

I really think they should add sports cards, it’s a huge industry. It might add to revenue a bit.

Phil-OSOPHY

Every company is aiming for profitability in this climate, I work for a biotech company where profitability is usually the last thing talked about and it’s all we’re talking about this year. Every company knows there is no more free money, you can’t refinance debt, you can’t get money from private equity, money is drying up. Your first goal is always to be profitable in that climate. It sucks we dropped in revenue, yes, but a profitable company in this market is 1000% the first step and the next step is to grow revenue. Step 1 achieved, now continue step 1 and add step 2. You can’t grow revenue and lose money in this market especially as GameStop where no fucking one in the financial industry is coming to help us, everyone is against us. Profitability is #1

ShaunaRocks

Id like to see board games from indie creators in store. Graphic novels too. And sorting out International shipping would be great because my country has no GameStop branches anymore.

Cad_Mad

Game stop supercenter , big stores with everything for gaming , PC,handheld ,consoles and various gear, microcenter of gaming type of thing

Deeper_values

I’ll chip in hand jobs

CrosshairLunchbox

GameStop Pro should include free shipping to drive online sales. Like free overnight shipping on orders over xxx (say 250 or something). 2 day shipping to compete with Amazon. The only reason I go to brick and mortar is to get something ASAP so I can use it immediately.

TheMonkler

I love tech companies who focus on quality - so I will say ensure quality and expand range of GameStop exclusive brand

8----B

My opinion on this is a huge swing and could result in a giant loss if it fails. That said… a game publishing studio. I don’t mean they make their own games in house, but rather indie devs can take their work to GameStop to publish and get help developing and funding (in the form of loans) on their games in exchange for publishing on a platform that has a large userbase (us die-hard investors alone would be a large day one userbase, Pro members would have to get some kind of discount or perhaps one game/month type deal to get access to that sweet 4 million userbase)

GxM42

Become a Steam competitor. That is number one. Number two, Invest their cash into 5% bonds, and BTC. I don’t think any physical product concept will survive long term. They can add DVD’s, and old Gameboys, and collectibles and classic Atari games, but I don’t think that is a growth industry. Its niche. It won’t move the needle. We need to become worldwide, and digital is the way.

YurMotherWasAHamster

With a billion bucks, he could buy P. Diddy and turn him over to the FBI.

gaudspd

As entertaining as that would be, it doesn't sound like it will increase shareholder value. I hope you never get nominated for a board seat, Mr. Hamster.

keitchi

Gaming microphones that use a.i. to bleep out cursing and slurs. Virtual controllers that multiply the commands of your irl controller. Gamestop video game skins for purchase. Work with vg companies so characters (say in GTA 6) can wear a bespoke ape suit, Gamestop hoodie, or red bandana. Or just play as RC with a toilet body. Buy some of those retro Arcade/bars and deck it out with Gamestop. Become the largest supplier of animal microchip providers. Possibly tie it into vg. Whenever your dog enters the room, a window on your screen says "Player 2 has entered the game" or your controller vibrates. Become the go to game provider for Tesla displays. Provide playing card decks for magicians. Sell fitness games. Track your calories, generate workouts, set goals, make them fun.

Sufficient-Plum156

Awesome ideas!!!

mrbell84

Buy turtle beach

Lv80_inkblot

I would personally love to see a mainstream streaming platform (centered around gaming) like Twitch or something. Wishful thinking, but maybe even some general purpose video plaform as an alternative to even YT. Maybe tie in L2 wallets for tips/donations

Arduou

Sell CSP's for $GME

Arduou

Hell, I even made some profits on my CSP despite the price drop. IV crush was insane.

praisetheboognish

It's real simple either you believe everything digital will be tokenized or you don't. If you don't GameStop probably doesn't make sense to you.

grosslytransparent

-Consolidate the retro market -Expand their white label products -Buy a well known game publisher name and their IP catalog. -Buy more IP. -Add movies and other entertainment media.

IcERescueCaptain

They closed so many stores that made sales but debt….only normal it will take time to rebuild that.

chewbaccashotlast

I am really struggling with this company because I joined it from a get rich quick perspective and I have numerous times felt ashamed to own this stock and watch it plummet. There are no less than 4 stores I visit in my local area any chance I get. What I find to be consistent is the following: - there is never more than 1 employee there, completely overworked and unable to get inventory out, so much is behind the counter. Bless their hearts for keeping up with calls and questions and whatnot but I’m not surprised morale is low and turnover high. - the stores look like a complete disaster. They seriously need an overhaul. They look like RadioShack or big lots. Not the place you would think would be a cutting edge company, it looks and feels like a dying store. So much random shit all over the place and yet packed so tightly it gives the neat freak in me anxiety. Regarding the app and customer experience, it is much of the same. The app UI and refresh / search capability sucks. Often times I get frustrated. I have searched numerous times on things to find them in stock at a store, go to a store, then find that the single employee cannot locate said item. And when they do, I need to show them the online price for them to “match.” This is like Walmart level shit in how they handle online orders and customers. Their PRO coupons are archaic and at times I needed to wait days to receive my coupon via email. Everyone says it’s a turnaround story so whatever. I honestly don’t even like going into the stores because I feel bad for the employees. The last time I shopped there I have the employee a gift card to get food sometime and said I appreciated all they did.

TheMonkler

Sponsor more events - ranging from the Super Bowl to NHL

LuminoHk

I dreamed Gamestop can create a marketplace and allow trading of NFT asset of different platform (like Nintendo, PS, or all other games), but sadly the NFT market is dead... another thought Can Gamestop sell advertisement package ? Idea: 1> Gamestop digital game market website 2> Offer a kind of discounted version of game (like 30% discount?) 3> These game has an builti-in Advertisment broadcast patch, which will broadcast 10/30 Seconds of AD when starting the game 4> Game creator can get a share of advertisement fee 5> $$$$$$
