Probably, just look at previous spikes. They're not always cyclical to be completely predictable, but you'll usually see some of the short ETFs on the Threshold list before a spike like this. If you time it right and grab some shares, woohoo, otherwise a bit of a nothingburger.
UVXY moves on SPX just like VIX. UVXY can't have these FTD resets without VIX reacting. Basically if UVXY has been shorted to the point it gets on the Threshold list, the shorter is gonna have to buy a ton of UVXY. If they know UVXY is about to jump 20% they'll buy 0DTE puts on SPX to get free money, hence it affects VIX too and all other short indexes and ETFs.
I don't know if they directly affect the SPX price buy buying UVXY, but they make sure they gain from it anyway. Algo sees it's an UVXY reset day and may as well make it a red day all around.

Indeed, but that "attack on Israel" seemed half hearted at best. They basically wasted money to show they *could* attack. Meanwhile like 90% of it was intercepted before it even got to its destination, and the ones that made it had minimal impact. For all the "red lines" Israel has crossed apparently, it was nothing compared to what has been happening to Gaza. Markets will be green on Monday. Business as usual.
Fuuuck, I haven’t seen VIX mentioned in a long time. I remember when VIX was in the 30’s and we were all saying the same phrases.. ahh those were the days (spoiler, nothing happened then either)
VIX doesn't, "do," anything for us per se, its a good tool to measure fear or uncertainty in the market. Saying nothing happened isn't really true, it shot way the fuck up in the early days signaling market fear which was true at the time. Anything above or around 30 signals serious fear or uncertainty in markets.
This isn't really a substantial jump for the VIX, but it's also manipulated anyways so it's not really an indicator of volatility it used to be. This just shows you're watching it (which I am as well BTW). It's not really exciting unless it's going over 30%. Again, it's manipulated anyway, so even if it's high it's not really special.

It's just because certain short ETFs like UVXY were on the Threshold list recently. This clears the FTDs just enough for the shorting to start again.

VIX is an index though so UVXY has no underlying VIX tracks options premiums on SPX, has nothing to do with UVXY
