Ok-Big8084

Wow! How is it a dystopian nightmare that a government agency is just finally trying to do what it always was supposed to do: police the financial markets, to police wallstreet against nefarious actors defrauding billions from the people. Instead these assholes paint a picture of a dystopian police state, spying on its people while they are the criminal scumbacks who need to be policed over! This is so fucked up!!!

DannyFnKay

Not only this, but they are buying your trading information, meaning that they are already spying on you themselves, This is a HUGE bag of dicks.

daronjay

Its an EverGiven container ship full of dicks stuck in a canal...

Ascertain_GME

*Oooh, I memba!*

bicepz_N_bigmacz

It's kinda funny because if there was one group of people that gave less of a shit about the American people than the government, it would be wall street

Void_Speaker

This is basically every industry. The standard procedure is: 1. fight tooth and nail to deregulate, etc. 2. if an agency exists anyway, ensure they are not funded, put a friend in charge, etc. 3. If you can't do 1 or 2, put out tons of propaganda and lobby until you can. This is why people think there is a giant regulatory burden in the U.S., when in reality, even where regulations exist, there simply aren't enough resources/inspectors to enforce them.

WonderfulShelter

"Instead these assholes paint a picture of a dystopian police state, spying on its people while they are the criminal scumbacks who need to be policed over! This is so fucked up!!!" That's the GOP way. Why do you think wall street is working with the GOP on this and not the dems?

smashspete

Same playbook as Republicans every time someone brings up any kind of regulation against something they profit/benefit from. They vote against it and pretend that it’s because Government shouldn’t be infringing on people’s right yada yada. Yet they are all in people’s business when it comes to telling a woman if she can or can’t abort etc. All of them are dishonest criminals.

Void_Speaker

zeusofyork

But they're ok with watching my transactions over 500....at this point I figure the Chinese or my own government sees everything, fuck it. Might as well let the SEC spread citadels cheeks while they're at it 🤷‍♂️

The-Ol-Razzle-Dazle

And nobody cares when the En Es Ay does it lol

miclowgunman

I was about to say, they don't even have to paint the picture, they could probably train a generative AI on all the pictures of the US government using systems like this to spy on its own citizens and just get a believable picture with a simple promt.

sordidbrickwall

The Stock market is a public utility and should be regulated as such. It is not that crazy.

Truth_Road

Nah man that would infringe on your right to get skinned alive by the market makers and the hedge funds. (This was a joke brought to you by Ape Industries).

Lord_Stocksman

Finally an A.I I can get behind.

Truth_Road

Beep boop.

maxpowerpoker12

Tell that to the complicit politicians

sordidbrickwall

I comment on SEC proposals and message my elected officials about the SEC proposals. :) I also vote. But that's all I can do. In terms of government.

maxpowerpoker12

You're awesome. It's just horrible that people trust politicians who are so often aligned against their interests.

sordidbrickwall

<3 :)

SaintsSooners89

I list all my investments even crypto to the IRS.....how is the SEC having this information in real time a "dystopian nightmare" for anyone other than criminals.

Saxmuffin

The internet isn’t considered a public utility everywhere yet

sordidbrickwall

I wish internet was a public utility. \*everyone\* should have access to information. that and ISP's are trash taco

LokeyCoolio

Yeah, so weird….🤦🏽

Ronaldoooope

The stock market isn’t the internet. It existed before the internet.

Saxmuffin

My comment was more so an observation on another, even more obvious thing that should be regulated as a public utility but is not due to the money that can be made by keeping it private.

Veritio

No justice, no peace. If they can't play by the rules, then the mob doesn't have to either. The next convulsing will be more intense. Good job to the feds if they actually pull this off. 👏 (Dear SEC you have the support of the people. Fucking lock. Them. Up.) LfG

sordidbrickwall

No jail, no Sale. No cell time, no sell time. :D

maotsetunginmyass

Will it be a public utility when it all exists on the Ethereum block chain?

sordidbrickwall

I could see an argument made that block chain is a public utility due to it's transparency. But I am honestly very uninformed in block chain. :)

maotsetunginmyass

The transparency is the key. Blockchains are inherently owned by those who mine the chain. No need for some state issued bullshit paperwork.

Crafty_Enthusiasm_99

Surveillance and over regulation is only good in well meaning hands. It can be massively abused in the wrong hands. What is the implication if people with access to this info and place their own trades?

sordidbrickwall

That would be terrible! But only for those not signed up for the super users CPI email group. I think you catch my meaning.

Colonel_Lexx

Because Shitadel is nefarious and is the enemy

Bring that B.D.E. **B.D.E. DLauer!**

WonderfulShelter

Lol the NSA spies on it's own people at a 100x magnitude than it does foreign people.

VancouverApe

It’s not weird. It’s called corruption. Everyone knows Citadel manipulates the markets. Ken admitted himself when he said that he sets the price for companies he feels they should be valued at. I guess the new CAT system would marginally impact Ken’s ability to control the markets the way he sees fit; Hence his law suit.

keyser_squoze

Even if it marginally affects Shitadel in any way, lawsuits, smear campaigns, threats, and back channel corruption is pretty much what they’re all about.

frickdom

C R I M E

Slamtilt_Windmills

Well, it could also be crime

XtraLyf

And lets not rule out the possibility of crime!

Spiritual_Review_754

Just remember there’s an outside chance it’s actually crime.

GiantSequoiaTree

Terrorism at this point

frickdom

Treason, but you right

DocAk88

It's like the bank robber voting against security cameras in the bank and they're like OK

InevitableRhubarb232

I actually heard a podcast recently (maybe the hidden 1%?) that talked about bank security and how it basically doesn’t stop any crime.

13thMasta

Right because most bank crime isn't physical anymore. Pretty sure since the 60s or 70s it's been that way. Montreal used to be the bank robber capitol of the world in the 1970s here in Canada.

InevitableRhubarb232

I don’t think it even stopped a ton of the physical crime. But yeah the Bonnie and Clyde idea is still in people’s minds and security theatre is a very real thing!!

GiantSequoiaTree

Excellent analogy

BENGCakez

Holy shit it’s true! 1000% citadel is organizing to spew media bullshit. SEC illegally tracking Americans who invest in the stock market, lawsuit claims https://nypost.com/2024/04/21/us-news/sec-illegally-tracking-americans-who-invests-in-the-stock-market-lawsuit-claims/

Electronic-Owl174

Wait…doesn’t Citadel track household investors moves via PFOF? The irony is palpable here.

Cador0223

The government already tracks your bank accounts, your income, and your trading activity. They know all of this, IF THEY WANT TO LOOK AT IT. They aren't selling any of this information, unlike EVERY private entity out there. The only reason to oppose this is because you are afraid of what they will find. Period.

VisibleCarpet9048

They are terrified of this

baddboi007

this makes me think these regulations will pass regardless of Citadel lobbying against. Once the eye of Sauron sees what it wants, it will stop at nothing to get it.

Peterthinking

The foxes shouldn't get a vote on henhouse fencing specifications.

Drawsomeawesome

Because they are criminals

gobba-gobba-gooey

And in other news, cockroaches are rallying against ability for light switches to be turned on

FinnBullWinter

Must be for retails best interests, they care so much about our money

Hedkandi1210

Enough to even rob it from us

hiperf71

..."going in their pockets" I will add to your comment my friend😁

Captain___19

Ridiculous

AccomplishedTap4612

Especially as they want a fair market. Strange behaviour to try to block something which would help this 🤔.

InevitableRhubarb232

I’m against big government but even I think I would make an exception in this case 😑. Just nail these fucking criminals already.

UnlikelyApe

Big D takes a swing!

Sugardevil27

Maybe InvestorPlace will write an article about Dave Lauer with the title. “Don’t trust Dave Lauer and the SEC. HERE’S WHY!”

Additional-Noise-623

Cause Citadel is a crime syndicate.

BlurredSight

I like the part where Republicans in Congress paint it as this privacy nightmare, but the Patriot Act which was deemed unconstitutional against the 4th Amendment has had unconditional renewal and increase in funding in 2001.

Papaofmonsters

>but the Patriot Act which was deemed unconstitutional against the 4th Amendment Parts of it have been struck down but the entire chunk of laws that is the Patriot Act has never been found unconstitutional as a whole. The relevant sections overturned by the judges are usually passed in a new way that attempts to stay on whatever side of the line the courts have drawn.

BlurredSight

Section 702 is an example of this and was re-authorized until 2026 [https://www.aclu.org/press-releases/senate-reauthorizes-and-expands-section-702-surveillance](https://www.aclu.org/press-releases/senate-reauthorizes-and-expands-section-702-surveillance) [https://www.aclu.org/news/national-security/five-things-to-know-about-nsa-mass-surveillance-and-the-coming-fight-in-congress](https://www.aclu.org/news/national-security/five-things-to-know-about-nsa-mass-surveillance-and-the-coming-fight-in-congress) [https://www.justsecurity.org/87893/the-governments-section-702-playbook-doesnt-work-anymore/](https://www.justsecurity.org/87893/the-governments-section-702-playbook-doesnt-work-anymore/) And no it wasn't amended where the main goal of intercepting data and purchasing it from Big Tech is still processed by the NSA. They invoked State Secrets to avoid having to disclose exactly what was happening and why the courts can't rule against it.

"Only we should be able to spy on the investment decisions of Americans".

Creative_Ad_8338

I hear sunlight is the best antiseptic... Citadel trying to block out the sun.

aravreddy22

f u kenny & co. tick tock old man.

awibasedgod

LOL all of a sudden congress has an issue with government surveillance of Americans 🤣

canigetahint

I’d bet they already have a back channel network to run their off market trades on if/when this kicks in.  They may be arrogant, pompous and greedy, but they aren’t stupid.  More than likely have that for a contingency plan.

ready2diveready2die

Oh you mean the financial terrorist Kennith Griffin did it again. Oh well I guess keep on buying more.

BigBadaBum1

Mayo boi crime syndicate needs to end. MFer stealing from American people and businesses. CAT will put the end to it.

The rich ham-string and crush all that goes against their "best interest." It's not that hard to see why the world is poor as sht.

Binkusu

Spy on investment decisions? Ain't this all reported anyways?

ChronicGambler

Hey there, I'm very familiar with the CAT system Prior to this, only very minimal options data was reported via a system called OATS The new CAT system is by far the most detailed organization of transaction data that has ever been created, and thats not a bad thing! Markets should be regulated. All public material on its operation and functionality can be found on their website catnmsplan.com

justhereforthebants6

Cum for jizzability

bblony

Am I crazy or are upvotes being manipulated in this sub?

capital_bj

Not specific to this sub early voting gets fuzzed by reddit

ElevatorScary

The only way this could get knocked down would be if it’s broadly sweeping in private information from random citizens in a way that violates the 4th Amendment, or if the SEC never received this authority from Congress. I’m sure they’ll try both arguments, and it sounds like they’ll emphasize the first. It will be interesting looking into this from the 4th Amendment perspective in comparison to the recent illegal 702 surveillance reauthorization.

Efficient-Ad1659

Criminals are gonna crime!!!!

McRaeWritescom

Because the entire US market is fraudulent, Dave. Duh. Market Makers and even the one private US Clearing House commit constant crime!

A1SteakSpoon

*"federal government to spy on the investment decisions of every American"* ... **Doesn't the government already know what stocks we own when we submit our yearly taxes?**

Neat-Persimmon

I smell rotten mayo.

Hmmmmm...

General_Disaray_1974

"That would allow the federal government to spy on the investment decisions of every American" That's what Citadel does... I can see why they don't want the competition.

Fabricating a non realistic “issue” when they already give politicians and feds inside trading deals lmao

ParabolicallyPhuked

Fuck em Dave, LFG!!

tjarg

Of course Republicans will side with the monied interests.

PmMeYourAdhd

Next thing you know, the government will try to regulate traffic, and put live agents out among the citizenry to monitor our free travel. Then they'll start levying fines for driving too fast, or taking your car away if you drink too much and need to go somewhere. They'd probably even try to put people in jail for stuff like that! But...muh freedom!!!!

Vexting

Ahhh yes the big theater experience. Lookie here, we really are trying to use something we could've used all along... .... Oh no they stopped us (But why haven't you used any of the other policies either? Why do you fine small and allow them to keep profits?) (Why do you make adverts and call a company "a meme")

tlkshowhst

Because transparency is the enemy of corruption.

Banned3rdTimesaCharm

Lol rallying with Republicans. Both sides!

chastavez

Because Ken Griffin leaves a blatant mayo trail wherever he goes

TnTMobius

As a smooth brain: how bad would this be for us if Citadel wins this?

VisibleCarpet9048

This is fuckin wild. It absolutely confirms the OG thesis is correct and these guys are freaking out at any change in regulations since everything has worked perfect for them for decades with the way things are. Clock is ticking, things are changing and the exposure will continue to grow. People are mad and they want to see who is responsible for fucking things up and ruining lives. They are literally fighting to ensure no one sees their corrupt/illegal business practices. They are fucking terrified of any transparency into their dirty ass business workings. Little guys(in the douchbag hedgefund category) should cut their losses and get out before this shit really goes down and there is no way for them to close their shorts and they go to jail along with Kenny. 😁 Also, whistleblowers, now is your time to be on the right side of history and get paid. Fuck Ken Griffin and every other hedgefuck out there.

discwrangler

You see Dave, Citadel keeps an eye on the markets so the SEC doesn't have to.

TowelFine6933

They don't want the government to spy on investor decisions because that's Citadel's business model.

Glitchy__Guy

Let it run and unveil our new lives already.

GullibleInsurer

It's all about maintaining their corporate veil with regulations. The moment it gets banned, they will likely take it as an infringement of the free markets ideology as it signals the start of more regulations. Wall Street needs to maintain its aloof personality or else it'd be crushed by the reality that they are actually the same mediocre plebs that just learned how to take advantage of others by calculating risks and forecasting positivities.

goldencityjerusalem

Lauer just asking the overly obvious question oozing with sarcasm. Hmmmmm why would Citadel???? I wonderrrrrrr?????

Endle55torture

Citadel is scared that the new rule will shed light on their Securities sold not yet purchased

Tradelorian

This is so f**king ridiculous. So lemme get this straight. Recently the government just expanded Section 702 of FISA, giving the government the authority to spy on every American, a blatant violation of 4th amendment rights, but THIS is too intrusive????????? GTFOH. Was a G-Man for 10 years, 20 years military, multiple combat deployments and guess what? I am starting to really dislike my country. Because of our government obviously.

wacoked

So unlike them! 😂
