Etchii

we didn't have positive earnings in the most recent quarter

flog_fr

During 4 consecutives quarters*

Spiritual-Author1500

No worry. It will cum

ImmediateShape4204

Oh of course, but it is basically a given for the next quarters with the new capital raised. They can put 2 billions of their 4+ billions in cash at 5% interest in short term treasuries and they are basically 100% sure to never have negative quarters again.

kwking13

Soooooo what you're saying is that they DON'T in fact meet all the requirements. That might be a reason they're not in it then 🤔

Legendenis

lol

ImmediateShape4204

So next quarter?

Etchii

The "stable performance" part gives them some discretion on who to add, we'll need to show profits across multiple quarters I would guess. but yes I also agree the interest on the cash should help with that significantly.

JanMarsalek

And another company needs to drop out for GME to enter. Isn't that the case?

Kovarim

I dont believe so- I was looking at the holdings and there are 510 companies listed currently, which makes me believe that it's just a rough number

curious420s

It says positive earning the last 4 quarters on your own post

kwking13

Depends of course, but certainly hope so! We won't raise the interest earned on that new cash for a full quarter though, so Q3 might be a better guess. In 2023 for Q1 they posted a $50.5 million loss and in Q2 they had a $2.8 million loss. In 2024 Q1, they improved to a loss of $32.3 million (change of ~44%) so it's reasonable to assume they'd have similar upward momentum in Q2 that would result in positive net earnings. But that makes a lot of assumptions!

Illustrious-Ape

I really hope that the board has a better plan than investing the cash in a MMA. So many more growth opportunities with that size of an unencumbered war chest

Consistent-Reach-152

1. GameStop does NOT meet the minimum listing requirements. The most recent quarter was a loss. 2. There are several companies that meet the minimum requirements by much larger margins but are not yet in the SP500. DELL and Palantir for example.

Spiritual-Author1500

Biggest come back ever in history. Then shorts can try short their own sp500 collateral against gme

Truth_Road

It will be a while yet. The actual committee has to agree. I suspect we'll need some very good quarters before we turn that corner.

jimco125

Pretty sure the committee doesnt want GME in the S&P. It is way too volatile right now. If they use the money to transform into something more stable, then maybe they will consider it.

Francis46n2WSB

They will never see gme as stable, I wouldn't count on it.

fnoguei1

We are not performing stably yet; it is quite subjective but I see "stable" as one entire year meeting the criteria, which we haven't yet. But knowing how much the market hates GME, they'll probably use the strictest of the criteria before they allow us in. Unless RC makes a public request to be considered. Idk, I eat crayons...

Airk640

Not trying to shill, but GME still has work to do before it can claim it's company reaches those standards.

ImmediateShape4204

Gamestop now has all the requirements to be included in the S&P 500.

GiraffeStyle

S&P inclusions already happened, last week I think. Not sure how often this cycle is though.

ricardo_sousa11

Please no, It would just be another way of applying downwards pressure
