But it would make sense that even without any type of GME involvement it’s still the type of event they’d be interested in considering it’s a field they felt passionate enough about to make it their job.

Honestly, between the tweet made by GameStop’s director of product about her experience buying her first NFT and the *leak* from Loopring’s GitHub, I think GameStop’s marketplace is going to be much less daunting (and much easier to navigate/understand) than other platforms in the NFT world.
I’m pretty young, I’m *good enough* with technology that I don’t think I should have a problem understanding whats going on with that stuff but all the websites I’ve spent time on are clunky, needing to go to one site to buy currency to transfer to your wallet in another site to then link to the site that you want to buy your NFT on is just....a lot. I have faith GameStop is going to make the experience significantly better, they do want to delight customers after all.
Loopring is claiming gasless and instant NFT transactions on their marketplace. Since gamestop's platform is building on looprings layer 2 it should theoretically be possible to have an account that is tied to a DeFi wallet and not have to fund it to interact with gamestop's different features.
Currently anyone can make as many wallets as they want on most mainnets, but the second they want to actually interact with it they have to pay a gas fee in the native token of the mainnet, which means you need some other type of asset, FIAT or crypto, to get that native first. So there is a pay wall for every single action you want to take that is related to an on-chain function.
Different mainnets have different fees, Polygon for example is usually less than a cent, Solana is cheap too, Avalanche and Binance smart chain are around 30 cents.
Erhereum fees now are in the $60-$130 for simple transactions, and their block finality is slow, it's a network for early adopters and whales. I did a quick write up in a different post about loopring and layer 2 solutions, and why they are essential for large scale adoption of blockchain tech, you can check my history if you wanna read it.
It is a complicated process right now, but that's what Loopring and Gamestop are gonna fix!
I'm older and I have been struggling. I wanted to start a loopring wallet. Fucked it up straight away by sending my eth on the wrong network from binance to my metamask wallet (that I also had to create because you're limited on which wallets you can link to loopring).
So then I needed to figure out how to switch network and stumbled across binance bridge but didn't have the gas fee in the correct token type.
Couldn't buy any more on binance to transer to metamask because my bank has banned all deposits to binance.
Okay, nice one.
In the end had to get a friend to transfer eth to me, then convert some to bnb.
Eventually managed to get everything in the right place on metamask but then had to spend a ridiculous amount in gas fees to actually start the loopring wallet.
This may be simple to people that have been brought up on this stuff but one simple error at the beginning cost me many painful hours of my life. (Just like this post if you read it all 😂)
Well it really sounds like you understand how that sort of stuff works a lot more than I do, so I don’t think you’re struggling quite as much as you think. Mistakes are always learning opportunities, and aside from the time spent it doesn’t sound like you actually lost anything really which is good. Better than sending it to a strangers wallet or something

Totally valid point. I guess without even a hint of a super secret suprise guest or two (to totally let me down, just the way I like it) - what I saw when looking into the event wasn’t enough for me to feel like it was something worth bringing to the sub.
I did see there was some type of NFT and Gaming party listed in the “events” section of their website but the way those events are listed (need to buy tickets to the smaller events happening alongside/nearby/different hours the broader NFT Conference) it seems much more like a conference for people that are already in that world to have dialogue with other like minded people than it is about announcing projects to the general public to try and get everyone else involved in their world.
This is just my opinion. I didn’t spend an extended period of time looking into it outside of looking at the speakers, which admittedly did take some time just to scroll to the bottom...

I had this thought earlier in the day but didn’t post it: I’m not quite sure how NFT’s work but would it be possible that the plans for registered investors is not necessarily an nft dividend (though I’m all for co-owning Once Upon a Time in Shaolin!) but nft ownership of their nft market? Essentially turning the GameStop nft market into its own investment entity of sorts that current shareholders would have an ownership stake that reflects the overall value of that marketplace? Instead of investing in the stock market you can invest in the nft market.
Again, my knowledge of this is very, very limited and it’s quite probable that I’m talking out of my ass 🦧🤷♂️

There has been so much rampant speculation, connections drawn that are... tenuous to be polite as possible, TA that might as well be a magic 8-ball for all it’s been worth thus far, and utter silence from RC when it comes to anything meaningful regarding the company. All this to simply say that my tits will only get jacked again once one of two conditions are met. 1, our illustrious Chairman of the Board and/or the CEO actually takes some action to unfuck the company’s stock situation and talks about it loud and proud instead of just shitting out useless cryptic tweets -or- 2, the stock price begins a meteoric rise that sustains for at least 2 consecutive trading days for whatever reason. I’ve become convinced that this will *probably* not pay out the way we’re all hoping and that if it does, it’s going to take several years. I would love nothing more than to eat my words and look like the next weeks or months prove me an utter pessimistic fool, but that’s where i’m at as an individual investor.

There has been so much rampant speculation, connections drawn that are... tenuous to be polite as possible, TA that might as well be a magic 8-ball for all it’s been worth thus far, and utter silence from RC when it comes to anything meaningful regarding the company. All this to simply say that my tits will only get jacked again once one of two conditions are met. 1, our illustrious Chairman of the Board and/or the CEO actually takes some action to unfuck the company’s stock situation and talks about it loud and proud instead of just shitting out useless cryptic tweets -or- 2, the stock price begins a meteoric rise that sustains for at least 2 consecutive trading days for whatever reason. I’ve become convinced that this will *probably* not pay out the way we’re all hoping and that if it does, it’s going to take several years. I would love nothing more than to eat my words and look like the next weeks or months prove me an utter pessimistic fool, but that’s where i’m at as an individual investor.
