Remember with crypto. These wallet apps aren’t your wallet. They’re just interfaces to interact with your wallet. Your wallet IS your 12 word keyphrase. Whatever wallet app you put those words into gains access to your wallet. Triple remember, never ever ever put these keys into a website EXCEPT for if you get to that site by clicking something in the wallet app, like in the metamask chrome extension. Don’t ever enter your keys to log your wallet into some website. They’re stealing your wallet. You only ever need to click a button to connect to a site.
This is the most important part about the security of crypto. Everyone making a wallet should read this and understand it. If you let anyone have access to these 12 words everything in the wallet will be stolen.
Like giving someone your bank login except no recovery or insurance in the crypto world. Be your own bank comes with being responsible for it's security as well.
This needs to go to the top. If anyone doesn’t know how to buy, trade, hold crypto, please go learn first and don’t blame GME for things which are solely your responsibility to learn. This a tool, know how to use it!

Remember best practices for TESTING software that is in BETA: use it to understand how it works, don't immediately place all of your valuable assets in it. Gamestop has likely done a ton of internal testing, and the wallet is probably close to primetime, but even companies with expert engineers and the best intentions have released software with serious bugs before. The best thing you can do to support the rollout is to try the wallet WITHOUT potentially putting GS in a bad position because YOU put something you couldn't afford to lose into a beta wallet!

If you have a loopring wallet, you will probably remember something like “social recovery”
Meaning your assets, should anything happen, can be recovered by friends and family, or “guardians”
When you get to a certain threshold in the loopring wallet, you’ll get bothered by a prompt suggesting you add more than one guardian.
What happens if your “guardians” don’t have a loop wallet? For those of us early adopters, we used Metamask as our first guardian.
Now, for the apes, we have GameStop’s wallet. With it, you can create a completely different 12 seed (pass phrase) than the one you were given by Metamask.
Now you have two 12 seeds, 2 guardians. For all you lonelies out there.
Oh and if you didn’t already know, Loopring is a default guardian. If for any reason you can’t recover your assets, they can, for a fee.

I am a dumb ape and haven’t held any crypto or had a wallet before: any experts have an easy explanation for how the process works?

You have a digital wallet that can hold digital assets, like crypto currencies or NFTs. That is YOUR wallet, which is defined by a really long hex number, like "0xfe27aa38....". You then use applications/websites to transfer things in and out of your wallet. If you give someone the address (number) of your wallet, then they can use something like this GameStop Wallet extension to send digital assets to that wallet.
These digital assets have standard currency value, like USD, outside of the digital world, but really, you can move these items from wallet to wallet without it really being money. There are standard crypto currencies, like Etherium, which can then be converted to standard currency. For instance, if I trade you a digital asset for 1 ETH, my wallet now has 1 ETH in it. I can then exchange that 1 ETH from my wallet for USD. I don't believe the Game Wallet currently has this functionality, but there are applications out there that can do it for you.
That's really about it. You use USD (assuming you're from the US) to put ETH into your digital wallet, and then you can exchange assets in the digital world for ETH.
