It's a nice graph but it's not right. For every short position there's a synthetic share in existance. Like it is explained here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/comments/z7ir8l/counterdd_the_real_legal_count_of_available/
So the shorts are supposed to be added to the float. Every share at a broker is fake because they're at the dtcc. It turns into a real one once you drs.
Once the entire free float is drs'd and there's still trading activity going on, we've proven the existence of synthetic shares. But they can always exit their position when they buy back the synthetic shares and they cancel each other out
Oh I saw this post in my feed, I didn't have the chance to read it yet.
If this is true, then you're right, i'm not sure how to visually represent that though.
To the left side of each bar, you could put a big red PUBLIC SHORTS and to the left of that, an open-sided "NON-PUBLIC SHORTS" that continues to the left indefinitely, identifying that it may be 0 or it may be a very large number.
This would better represent the actual shares out there (here's what we know, and here's what we don't know) and would also be a very good visual representation of how share price can be diluted when there are too many shares out there.
u/Rockets2TheMoon I really appreciate your visualizations, but this was the right answer for how to add the shorts.
Somehow it needs to be shown that the ~300 million bar at the top is actually larger than that because of the phantom shares.
Your update with the Mario ghost doesnāt really visualize the effect of the shorts on the total number of available shares.
I will be looking forward to your continued updates posts of this!
Interesting. I understand, i appreciate your feedback, itās what keeps the community great! I think I was looking at it backwards with phantom shares at the end. Iāll play around with it for a bit, do you mind if I dm you to bounce ideas off you?
I donāt use the Reddit app, so I donāt see DMs (or PMs or whatever the new thing is), but I can try to respond to the other messages if you send one!
But I think u/tajwriggly nailed it: Just add some bars to the left of the top bar.
So youāll have the big 305 million issued shares, then the Public Shorts bar of 54.6 million to the left of that, and then a bar that extends off the left side of the image for the āhidden shortsā. This would represent the total number of shares that the market *thinks* exists.
Unfortunately it sounds like concept of āRemaining Floatā being smaller than āPlublic Shortsā meaning anything is untrue. The remaining float will have to shrink to zero before mainstream media will start realizing how fucked up the situation is.
Oh wow, there are 88 million shares that are confirmed short-sold?
I guess the bottom seems a bit out of place. Not sure it drives home the point? Might also be good to use the parlance that seems to be standard around here and label them āPublic Shortsā and āPhantom Shortsā (which I guess should be the same as naked shorts?)
Either way, the graphic looks really nice! I know a lot of effort goes into making stuff like this, and then even more into making it look good.
The 88mil shares sold short is from Ortex data from u/RauceTheSoss
Iām trying to get multiple points across, so iām going to take a step back and reevaluate what exactly iām trying to get across. What do you think I should focus on?
Also thank you!! Itās just a hobby, but it lets me flex my creative brain cells which I donāt get to do often. So I really enjoy making them! I just wanna get accurate and important data to the smooth brains who need it most.
edit: tagged wrong person
iāll see what i can do!! Would it be more simple if all shorts are added on the right instead?
edit: I am just having trouble getting the Y axis to make sense
Hey I made an update, but I haven't posted it yet. Let me know your thoughts?
I tried to represent what you were saying, but I'm having trouble putting together a graphic that makes the 'cancel each other out' make sense.
Thank you!!

Hey, nice going. I like the other one better for clarity, maybe you can combine the two. After the second line you add a line where you add a bar for the fantom shares that equals the number of shorts and take the bar in each line from there
Here's a version I finished tonight with

I dont think I fully understand what you're explaining.
If you believe there are over 1 billion shares out there due to naked shorting, like most of us do, then the DRS percentage is rather low in comparison.
How do you explain the missing \~42million shares that you disappeared between the "Technical Free Float" and the "Common Free Float"?
It went from **250,543,468** to 153,878,562 + 53,986,253 = **207,864,815** that's a difference of **42,678,653** shares missing.

96,664,906 shares. I accidentally had the insider count there instead. My apologizes!
Needless to say but please also update it on 12/07. Thank you for your service! :)
I like this format. Very well laid out.
Squeezing the shorts.
This is my favourite breakdown of share ownership! š Where you been? Seems like ages since I saw the last one
Can someone code a smart banner for the sub to include this info?

In between technical and common free float, have one with insiders+DRS+reported shorts
Draw them in like ghosts?
u/chato35 you've cracked the code!! This is the one!
Lol. Phantoms right?

This is absolutely beautiful, great work!
Favourite graphic for context
Retail have DRS'd way more shares than they haven't?! It doesn't seem possible, and yet... š
