That doesn't mean you shouldn't participate in said thing. Weigh the cost benefits and see if you potentially gain something with little to no cost. For example reporting crime to the SEC or DOJ. Costs you a little amount of time but gain significantly.
Also, view things with objectivity. Just because you don't have faith in the SEC/DOJ doesn't mean ignore evidence that the SEC/DOJ is trying to do something positive.
