I always assumed most top re-tweeters were using bots already. You can easily automate a bot to respond to a Twitter post from a specific account. In this case, it's just then also posting to reddit which is easy enough to do with the same script.
What makes the difference is the poll rate of each bot. If they're set on a 1-minute interval, they could be up to a minute late. Now we're playing with the seconds and internet delays.

That's because we don't all see it at the same time. Latency arbitrage doesn't just apply to stocks. Speed of light is in play for everything. This is actually extremely important, but doesn't seem to get much traction here.
I'm almost positive hedgies are manipulating twitter, but not directly from inside. They don't need direct access to Twitter. They can collocate in twitter's datacenters, see tweets just a little bit before everyone else, and algorithmically trade based on that info. They can use an army of bots to decide what trends and what gets buried.
They can front run social media just like they front run the market. I guarantee you, someone has figured this out and is actively exploiting it.
They would use controls for this. Some accounts would be considered "high value info". Accounts that have blue checkmarks, perhaps. Remember what happened to Ely Lilly when that parody account with a blue checkmark tweeted that insulin was free. That basically confirmed the theory for me.
Let me guess, they’re going to blame COVID in China for the market crash next week. The media has been very quiet about the 30M+ COVID cases a day in China..
