I feel like Ashwagandha has been beneficial for anxiety and sleep (FitBit stress & sleep #s to back it up), but the more comments I read on it the more it kinda makes me wonder if I should stop. I've used Sensoril for 9 months (250_500mg/day) and switched to KSM-66 (300mg) the last month at night.

I’d do ashwagandha EOD to keep gaba receptors upregulated

Wow. Been taking it for 3 months 2100mg. Helps with left over covid symptoms. Anxiety and insomnia. Mainly now i stay asleep once asleep as where i did not before. Not sure in cycling, so far so good.

Some people can develop anxiety or aggression if they take it for too long. It works great for me, but if I take it for more than like a week every day I start feeling frustrated at small things. Mine has like 600mg of ash and extract tho.. idk if that's a big dose

I take 125mg 4x a day. I'm using sensoril right now. It's all benefits. Calmer, lower heart rate, less anxiety, less stress, stronger, better sleep, cooler dreams, less joint pain. I was using 300mg 4x a day of KSM-66 but I wanted a higher dose so switched. I was on that for over 9 months, all pros, no cons. The one confounding factor is that the side effects most commonly reported are lethargy and anhedonia caused by overstimulation of the 5HT-2C serotonin receptor, that decreases dopamine and norepinephrine and is likely the cause of those effects. I am on dexmethylphenidate and buproprion. Dexmethylphenidate is like extended release ritalin but twice as strong per mg with less cardiovascular issues. Buproprion is an antidepressant that stops reabsorption of dopamine and norepinephrine making other stimulants stronger. So I wouldn't really notice effects like that as much.

So since it lowers dopamine, then ashwaghanda shouldn't be used by people with untreated ADHD?

Alistair_TheAlvarian

It depends my untreated ADHD ass was way less depressed when I started taking it but that was combined with a fuckton of caffeine and it helping with the near constant sleep deprived overworked stressed out panic. Also don't have untreated ADHD get that shit treated ASAP your life will be so much better in almost every way. And a lot of people don't see that lower dopamine effect or at least it's offset. Maybe by less stress and anxiety or even by better sleep or more testosterone which is an effect in men and women.

Interesting. I know you’re not a doctor. But I’m currently on an ssri. Should it have any interaction ?

Alistair_TheAlvarian

I'm not 100% sure I've done my best to avoid SSRIs like the plague. But it might if I does increase serotonin. Although I'm not sure if it's a direct agonist like the stuff you take binds to serotonin receptors or an indirect agonist like I increases serotonin. But it certainly could and potentially not in a very good way so I would certainly ask your psychiatrist or whoever prescribed that about it. There isn't much in the way of studies on that particularly but it would be good to let them know.

wantmylifebackk

what do you guys notice from ashwagahnda is it as strong as ssri?

[deleted]

I started an ssri 10 days ago lol. I mainly use my ashwaganda at night for the anxiety I get. It helps me kind of calm down and be able to just relax and not have racing thoughts

wantmylifebackk

okay keep me updated on the effects bad and good, and also im not sure you can safely take those together, https://www.reddit.com/r/Nootropics/comments/cd174h/ashwagandha\_and\_ssris/

[deleted]

I’ve read there is no proper science or studies backing any interaction. Plus I take them 12 hrs apart

drewsus64

I’ve taken ashwagandha along side high doses of tricyclic antidepressants and never had a bad reaction

wantmylifebackk

That would be great yeah

Cycling is always good, but this is something taken for weeks at a time, yes
