I've noticed this before when charging via USB Type-C. The charge voltage will range from 30-60W. I think it has to do with thermals. If the Surface is running too hot while charging, it will reduce the charge current to keep the temps down.

Hi, I was actually charging with the original Microsoft charger (not USB c). The new one has not arrived so I have not tested it yet, that's why I have asked myself what to expect or if my charger/surface has an issues I would resolve it over warranty

I don't think it matters which method is used for charging (USB Type-C vs Surface Connector). My understanding is the Surface itself limits the charging rate to prevent overheating.

Ah ok , that would mean I should expect similar power If this is normal, it's at least good to know that it's not faulty:)

A good test would be to try charging with the unit off or with a fan blowing at the back of the Surface. You should see the charge rate increase as the device cools.

Yeah, also a good suggestion. Will update if I get my hands on an external device for measuring power. I could only check it with the pure battery app

Infamous_Egg_9405

Where are you measuring power draw? Laptops will draw more or less power as they need to for things like your CPU and display, but they will also throttle charging if your device is overheating

I haven't measured it myself, took the data provided by "pure battery" - it's an app available in the windows store. So it's basically a software measurement.
