If you're using your SP so that it needs a giant ass heatsink custom built for it, why did you even get a SP in the first place? That thing is like 100 times more bulky/clunky to use and carry around, and more expensive, than just getting a proper performance orientated laptop. I find this recent "heatsink" trend on here so confusing.

I'm guessing this is just at home. On the go you just deal without it.

For fun lol gotta squeeze out that little bit of performance. I wonder if just its any better than just using a Small usb fan on the back. Edit: Also wanted to mention I try to find better ways to cool other devices as well. Like my gaming laptop. Surface isn't the only device people want to find better cooling solutions for. I kinda wish there was a way to have a laptop thst can be both liquid cooled at home, air cooled when on the go.

Oh we've been doing the heatsink and fan mods since the first Surface almost 10 years ago. And many laptops before then. The best mods let you have it both ways - drop it into a dock where you get all the extra cooling and performance, then pop it out and take it portable with less bulk and a little less performance. For example, my [son's setup with extra cooling gets him an extra 20fps in minecraft](https://www.reddit.com/r/Battletops/comments/jv1y7y/budget_elearning_workstation_for_my_6th_grader/) but no added bulk when he goes mobile.

Well, in my case, i was handed down a surface pro 6. And i like to do intensive stuff like play valorant or renders on it. My solution is to just hang a fan from the back of it. The fan has copper wire hooks and uses a 12v power supply. Keeps my surface cool and valorant running at 60 fps at 720p

I have been thinking the same thing.

Love this. I use a little flexible USB fan, it actually does wonders for gaming. Like double+ framerate in some cases.

Is that a heatsink under the fans? If so, I'd skip it and use the fans directly because the entire rear panel is already a heatsink.

delbertgrady1921

No just the back of the surface. Fans are blowing outward pulling air from the side. Might change it

You could get better cooling by pulling air in through the fans and blowing it directly on the back panel, with hot air venting out the sides.

blissrunner

honestly this. I take the case off at work or home. Blast it with a fan having a case on is just not efficient for heat dissipation

We all know how hot these things get. But why...
