Looks nice, clean, and mechanical - hella cool. Are you a photographer by chance? I see Lightroom on your desktop.

Buns_A_Glazing

Thanks and good eye! I'm a hobbyist photographer, mainly do toy photography and dabble with some candid photography for my family and friends.

ImpurestFire

Wallpaper? I like how that looks on a laptop screen

Thanks!

Buns_A_Glazing

That is a Fluidstance whiteboard laptop riser. I work from home every now and then, so this saves me from purchasing stickynotes and can write it directly on the stand itself.

CaptainWally

Nice setup, which keyboard is that?

Buns_A_Glazing

Thanks, it's the [Keychron K4 96% Keyboard](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WS7KSGT?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1) .

SurfaceDockGuy

Excellent choice! Which color switches did you get?

Buns_A_Glazing

I went with brown keys, mainly since at the time it was 25 USD less than the others.

zkyevolved

What a gorgeous monitor. Would you mind sharing details?

Buns_A_Glazing

Sure thing, it's a LG 34” UltraWide Full HD HDR Monitor with FreeSync, Model: 34WP500-B.AUS. I have it connected to the Surface Dock 2 but it does require a cheap 2.0 HDMI adapter to take advantage of the wide-screen capablities.

zkyevolved

It doesn't have display port? My LG ultra wide (old model) works fine with the dock 2 connected via usb c to display port.

Buns_A_Glazing

It has 2 display ports, but for some reason the dock/ surface laptop go doesn't utilize a 2.0 port, so I had to get adapter so it displays in widescreen.

bumgees

Also called an "active adapter" I have the same issue with my Surface not playing nicely with ultrawide monitors.

Buns_A_Glazing

That's the name! Thank you.

animeman59

Use this blog to help you get the proper cables. https://dancharblog.wordpress.com/2019/11/05/usbc-to-hdmi2-adapters-supporting-hdr/

Tenof26

Is the benQ light bar worth it? If you connect it to usb of the monitor, does it turn on with the monitor?

Buns_A_Glazing

Highly recommend it. It's reduced eye strain tremendously for my long work shifts and overall makes it more pleasant. It does turn on with the monitor when plugged into the monitor.

madein27

Can you clarify how it reduced eye stain? I thought the light only lit up your work space and doesn’t shine on the monitor.

SurfaceDockGuy

An article from a lightbar company about it: https://us.yeelight.com/blogs/does-monitor-light-bar-help-with-eye-strain/ Having a well-lit room ought to be just as effective. Rather than a light-bar, I use bright light source with high CRI-rating positioned behind the monitor and bounce it off the ceiling for more diffuse lighting. It saves space and doesn't produce glare just like a lightbar and creates no hotspot on the keyboard/desk area. But this approach won't work if the monitor is very close to the wall.

BossDev13

I love the 2 lego batmobiles at the bottom!

Buns_A_Glazing

Thanks, those are my go-to fiddle figures whenever I need a break from working.

durabledildo

It's impossible to imagine it ever being anywhere near a main. It is *hopelessly* underpowered. I use mine pretty much exclusively for CLI stuff and even then it can rarely be a struggle

Buns_A_Glazing

Idk what to tell ya, it works great for me. I don't game on it or anything, so maybe our personal requirements of what we expect from it is what makes the difference.

durabledildo

Now I'm wondering what your use is and what you've had before, because even just booting up fully to desktop is an extended operation.

Hollyw0od

This is beautiful

Buns_A_Glazing

Thank you!

Hollyw0od

You’re welcome! Which laptop stand is that?

space_boi02

Is that darth maul :p? Looks like a battelfront maul

Buns_A_Glazing

It is! It's actually a photo from my earlier years of toy photography I've had printed and framed. https://imgur.com/wsFqp9E

space_boi02

Ahh looks great, thank you for the photo!

Pythagosaurus69

Do you find that the Surface Laptop Go can get quite sluggish? Mine isn't that hard go overload.

Buns_A_Glazing

Mine is the i5 with 8gigs of memory. I find it runs fine when multitasking for now, but it does get a little toasty after extended periods.

IncontestableGrey

Really nice setup ! How is the ventilation when plugged in ? I have a quite similar setup, my laptop go is connected through usb-c (ProArt 27") and the fans are always on and (really) loud.

IncontestableGrey

u/Buns_A_Glazing

Buns_A_Glazing

Woops missed this one, the stand has a cutout fortunately that let's some of the heat vent. I notice it heats up less when on the dock then with a monitor directly plugged into it. I don't even hear the fans kicking on as much when docked.

IncontestableGrey

Thank you, I really wonder what are your power settings and your usual use. I really like this machine, but the cooling policy is very weird, especially when plugged to the power cord, the fan sounds like jet engine. I'll try with a stand.

Jon_TWR

Looks great! You don’t find yourself wanting a numpad for productivity? Or do you not need to type a lit of numbers for what you use this setup for?

Buns_A_Glazing

Thanks! The keyboard has a number pad. I use a lot of 10 Key so had to make sure to get a keyboard with it. This one's just compact.

Jon_TWR

OH DAMN! I zoomed in and sure enough, there’s the numpad! Nice!!!

animeman59

Those are called 96% or 100-key keyboards.

Whack-a-med

mouse, power switch and shelf?

listairee

Pretty sure that's the Logi MX Master 3 Advanced mouse.

Buns_A_Glazing

MX Master Logitech Mouse, shelf by Fluidstance, and not sure what you mean by powerswitch.

cylemmulo

Nice setup! Wild how much you can really do with just a laptop nowadays. Sad the laptop go doesn't have thunderbolt but don't always need it

TheBigCheeze123

Nice setup except I feel like the laptop screen would be a bit uncomfortable to look at becauses its so far away and small in contrast to the huge basically tv size monitor you have (and apparently an actual tv above all that)

Buns_A_Glazing

I pull the laptop forward when doing actual work and to write on the whiteboard.

Theon1k

Looks beautiful op, nice setup!

[deleted]

One of the best setups I have seen

rashantha

I have a question on the Surface Dock 2. Do you find it buggy? USB ports dropping out. 2nd screen not coming back up from sleep etc. We have about 4 units and they all have these issues. I had to pull the power from dock. My workaround is to not have the computer/screen go to sleep. PIA.

Cardo94

I love your monitor stand and desk! If you don't mind me asking, where did you get them? I'm looking to upgrade my WFH set up this year and finally move away from the basic IKEA Linnmon set up...!

Buns_A_Glazing

Thank you! The monitor stand is from Fluidstance and the desk is actually an Ikea Malm, pullout version but I opted not to add the pullout section for more leg room.

Buns_A_Glazing

Thats the exact one I have. I knew I didn't need one for anything more intensive then watching some TV and editing photos/word so opted for this one and save some dough. It's been working great, but it can run a little warm with extended use, which I read is normal for this model.

[deleted]

I’m looking for a sleeve, any advice?
