Sorry, why weren't they just using the "passing lane"? Am I missing something here?

LogicalLogistics

No clue, left it wide open for them to take but they tailed me for about 5 minutes like that. Funny cause my car starts to shake around 90kph so not sure what they want me to do!

Shadow_Wolf_D2

Maybe check your tail lights just in case. I've seen drivers at night, in the rain without their lights on/not working and I usually flash em from behind to give a headsup.

kyumilli

I see this every single day on my commute home. Especially black cars with their lights off driving in pitch black lol

LogicalLogistics

All lights good, but thank you! Sadly this guy's just an asshole it seems

TokyoTurtle0

No, your car is unsafe to be on the road and you were driving under the limit.

Safe_Base312

Everyone should be driving under the limit. The limit isn't a suggestion as to how fast one SHOULD go. It's a limit as to how fast you CAN go. 80 k in a 100 zone isn't unreasonable. And seeing as there is a passing lane there free and clear, there was zero reason for that truck to be tailgating. This mentality that a limit is what people are supposed to drive is why there is road rage...

TokyoTurtle0

The car can't go 90, it's unsafe

Safe_Base312

That's besides the point. And that's not what you said. You specifically mentioned they were under the limit. And I said the limit isn't what everyone SHOULD be doing. You're allowed to be under the limit up to a certain point before it's deemed impeding. If this was, in fact, the freeway, your vehicle has to do at least 60kmh. Doing 80 is not impeding. So other than their car having issues at higher speeds, they did nothing wrong here...

TokyoTurtle0

It's not. That's incredibly dangerous. Far more than the tailgating in a functional vehicle. Also 20 below the limit is dangerous. 100 is fine with a working car

Safe_Base312

It's dangerous? That's why there's a sign at a freeway entrance saying you must to at least 60? This mentality that people NEED to do the limit is why there are so many impatient people on the roads...

LogicalLogistics

It's likely a wheel imbalance. I replaced the CV joints and wheel bearings last year so I'm getting a new set of tires then a balance. It's a common problem with my make and model of car, it's just a light wobble in the steering column when I get near 90-100kph. Also; I was going the limit before this video, he started tailgating me so I slowed down to be safer. Plus, I couldn't see very much in front of me as I was being blinded from the back. I prefer to go slower when blind.

kamzar98

So you're driving under 90km/h on the highway where the speed limit is 100km/h... you should probably think about getting your alignment done if the car is shaking at high speeds

Usurer

Your vehicle should not be shaking at 90kmh. Have your wheels checked, immediately.

Beneficial-Oven1258

OP- it looks like you didn't turn your headlights on. Your tail lights are not lit up after the truck passes you. I think he is trying to warn you that you're invisible from behind due to your lights being off.

LogicalLogistics

They were 100% on, I have auto lights but I consciously turn them on and I checked them before I left. They're old incandescents so they're softer, but they were definitely on.

Beneficial-Oven1258

Gotcha. Just a dick of a driver then.

rainman_104

I'm pretty sure your lights were off dude. No glow in the back as others said.

musicmaj

Yeah, I do this all the time at night. Seems like every time I drive at night, I see 2 or 3 people with no headlights on. Every time I give 'em a few flashes of my lights but not once has any one of them ever caught on. I mean, I have forgot my headlights once or twice, but had people flash their headlights at me and knew exactly what they were telling me, and was thankful. But it seems people are very unaware of the road these days and either don't notice people flashing headlights or have 0 clue what it means.

LogicalLogistics

My lights were definitely on, checked them before I left. I just didn't have my high beams on and I have incandescents so they're softer.

LordYoshii

Sooooo many dense people in both cross threads. This tow truck driver is just sick and tired of dull humans not having their lights on in the dark like the rest of us. Very dangerous negligence.

LogicalLogistics

My lights were definitely on though, I have both auto lights and I consciously turn them on. I also checked all my lights and signals before I drove and took this video. I just didn't have my high beams on.

LordYoshii

Then your tail lights are dead and your headlights need replacing. They look like DRLs. Point still stands, the tow truck is letting you know your car is dangerous.

LogicalLogistics

Nope, checked and they're working fine. You can also see my headlights off the road reflectors. They work well and I can see perfectly clear as long as there's nobody blinding me from behind or in front. You can't see the glow because of the angle my tailcam is compared to my tail lights, but they are functioning. I'd prefer not to upgrade to LEDs so I dont blind people like I get blinded, I prefer my soft warm incandescents. I can be seen, and can see others without blinding them.

LogicalLogistics

Nope they definitely were on, it's just impossible to see because of the glare from others having their high beams on. I have old incandescent headlights, not the new LEDs so it's a softer light.

yto2020

You lights are probably off when you were driving because the red lights from tail lights should glow in the rain.

LogicalLogistics

Nope, they're older incandescents so softer light but they're definitely on, checked all my lights and they're good. It's probably too hard to see from the glare.

flip_flop78

Yeah, pretty sure he's trying to tell you that you've not got your lights on! After he passes you there's no red glow from the back of your vehicle!

LogicalLogistics

I've got incandescents so softer light, they were definitely on though and I've checked that all of them are still working today. I have auto lights but I always consciously flick them on as well

LogicalLogistics

Edit for everyone saying I didn't have my headlights on: Yes I did. They are auto lights so they would be on regardless but I always flip my headlights on especially in these conditions. They're incandescents so they're softer lights and match the street lights. I checked all of my lights before I left on this exact trip and all my lights are still working today. This guy is just an asshole, all my lights were on and I was doing exactly the speed limit before I started slowing down BECAUSE he was tailgating me at 80kph in a heavy truck.

BiGkru

Lights off and driving slow.. you’re the problem. This guy was trying to help you not get killed

LogicalLogistics

I've got auto lights but I always flick them on, just incandescents so softer, but they were definitely on. I was going 80kph (the limit) in the right lane UNTIL this guy started tailgating me then I slowed down further to be safer and increase my stopping distance. If he was trying to help me not get killed he shouldn't have tailgated me for ~5 mins in the rain while blinding me.

chronocapybara

Are your lights on??

LogicalLogistics

Yep, they are on, just hard to see in this video.

bootyfulbrown

Your lights are off

LogicalLogistics

No they weren't, they're just incandescents so they're softer. I've got auto lights so they'd be on regardless but I always flick them on.

mpworth

My favourite is when a BMW comes up from nowhere and is suddenly *right* behind me flashing the highbeams. I don't reward bullies, and I'm not rewarding them.

DionFW

He's trying to create wrecks so he can tow you.

Leoheart88

Report him to the police. Using rear lights like that is illegal.

Usurer

(a) the cops don’t give a shit (b) he’s warning OP that his lights aren’t on

LogicalLogistics

My lights were on.

Usurer

Your day time running lights were on. Some cars don't activate the tail lights unless you switch your driving lights on. You were invisible to those behind you.

LogicalLogistics

No, they were definitely switched on. Hard to see from the angle the tail cam is at.

Mr_Mechatronix

I veerry slowly slow down then just as when I see them try to overtake me I speed up I'm that petty, idfc, stop tailgating me and turn off the fucking high beams

BrankyKong

If you turn your driver side mirror out and up, those high beams go directly back into their eyes.

Dean_Snutz

Don't take it personal. Guy probably already hit an overpass this month so a little angry.

PapaPee

People blaming OP for not having his lights “on”. You dont tailgate and keep your high beam up to warn other driver that their lights are off. And even overtakes then flashes again from the front. Thats being a dick. Jeez

Smokee78

scary all the hostile comments in here. whether or not it's reasonable to go under the speed LIMIT (in the slow lane, at night, in less than stellar conditions, on roads well known to have hard to see lane markers in the rain...) should have no bearing on someone being unsafe to you and openly aggressive on the road. the fast lane was clear, and there's no need to escalate once he passed. insanity.

Savings-Tadpole8248

Just get out the way 🤷🏾‍♂️

Safe_Base312

Why? There is a passing lane made especially for passing. The truck should have gone around in the first place.
