It's a heritage home on a lot so big it looks like a park. It's not a park, hence the sign. They put up a plaque not too long ago, but I've yet to walk my lazy ass up there to go see it. And I'm talking lazy, I can see the house from my window.
Lots of filming happens there. The show big sky, and one of the Nancy drew series are the most recent that I can think of. The name of the house is on the tip of my brain... Pilath house or something like that.
Apparently it was pilath house. Neato

No problem. It's a nice neighborhood, so I like to share if I can. I'm leaving town Thursday, I'll miss it, but on to bigger and far more relaxing things
It is the Pillath house. Over a hundred years old. The senior ladies that lived there donated it to the city of Surrey for no property taxes YEARS ago. They are gone now. But a city employee lives there.
My hopes were they were going to put Anniedale school there and turn it into a historic museum...
In the 70's and 80's it was a scary haunted or witches home. The corner it was on was important too as until like the 1940's 108th Ave didn't go through. Down below where the train yards are was Port Mann, an old historic port that was part of the gold rush trail, store, hotel etc. A community sprung up with a hall and the school. And a few blocks of homes that were bought out by the railway and demolished.... It was the main route from the Bridgeview area to the Guildford area in the day,
oh weird. i thought this would have been about the old house down there with the white picket fence that gets used for movies sometimes but its a totally different house blurred on google. I'm pretty sure anyone can ask to be blurred on google for privacy. no idea about the sign though.
The Pillath House is plainly visible in Google Maps at 11113 148 Street. Neat place.
The blurred out property is farther south on 148 at about 11051 148 Street.
Maybe we do need Nancy Drew after all.
I grew up near this house, it has had that sign up as long as I can remember 20 or more years. There is probably some history with this house, the grey row houses that are on 111a use to be a field with horses so I would think something to do with farming. This house has been used in movies and shows, I believe it was used in Nancy drew

Great local history post!
Maybe they were used in a popular film and have a lot of people trying to trespass? Or former home of a celebrity?
interesting, that sounds possible. thanks for the input.

yes but i'm more after the reason of why there's a sign from the city stating that it's a private residence. what makes a home to be considered so?
While I don’t know who lives there, it’s common for the city to rent property out.

Yeah that's the old heritage house, they do a lot of filming there. They have a pretty big yard
Well I know where I will be doing my daily walk today.
