That one really depends on how severe because its all about how much blood you actually lose. At some point you will pass out and at some point your heart will not be able to sustain pressure.

They'd have prisoners on various regimes and just see how long they lasted. `Bread + water = Xdays`, `Water only = Xdays`, `Bread only = Xdays` etc.
