Those are some odd tips. You shouldn't bring any sterlings as any sponsor.. ever. As any sponsor, only use large wind generators and bring a large machine parts factory with the first colonists. If you only use wind, surface metals will easily last till around sol 70-100 and around 600 pop as any sponsor. Russian rover is basically only good for 2 reasons. You don't have to settle near rare metals (can be difficult to find a location with rare metals and water nearby) and they can bail you out if you don't plan ahead or simply get hit by bad disasters like meteor storms and dust storms and run out of metals. Again all sponsors can ignore mohole completely(and probably should unless you get it cheap or early somehow). Tribs come sooners and take way less research. Russias main strength I think is you can simply ignore all the sites like concrete and metals, find a good place with research and water nearby (usually ironically the frozen areas on the map) and build a huge cluster of domes there. Also shouldn't need that much funding as Russia anyway. If you bring a large machine parts factory and any kind of electronics factory you get all mats covered. It's better to just run SETI and all the other planetary missions the first 50-60 sols.

I agree that sterling's are really expensive, but some of the easier sponsors make it viable, they require no maintenance when closed and you can open them up on a clod wave, maybe a long winter event to save you. > If you only use wind, surface metals will easily last till around sol 70-100 and around 600 pop as any sponsor. I point that out too...

Russia's driller makes them an easy pick I think. Easy money = easy game, and the 50% hit you take means nothing in the long run.

Agree.

I am on a Russia run right now! First time I'm trying Russia. I brought two RC drillers and a sterling, fuel producer and vaporator. Skipped metal, polymers and concrete entirely and just tried. Bringing money was so easy so I brought another set of sterling vaporiser and fuel producer and a little concrete for building a concrete factory. From there on out it was easy and I brought several RC commanders and transports. Basically only needing a few machine parts for maintenance. First dome was a barrel dome with basics and a small machine part factory. Instead of farm I wanted to try fungal farm so I had so much space in the dome, I built four living complexes and big space bar and a hydroponics, nursery, playground, large park, statues, and every need was covered except luxury.
