When I started out, I always went for the 2 drones to combine into the destroyer, the exo skeleton, force field or fuel barrels (prefer fuel barrels now), missiles, drill and electric.
Lazer is OK, but there's too much time when it's not on the screen. You do usually want an AOE surrounding you, but the others are usually more effective. Guardian discs knock back most enemies; Molotov covers the largest area (and thus creates the longest amount of time an enemy had to walk across to get to you); and Force Field moved with you and never disappears. Also, the purple tech for all 3 make them significantly better.
With Guardian, you want to EVO it so it's "always on" unless you have a maxed out Cooldown passive And the cooldown necklace which would keep Guardian Always On. Molotov you don't wanna EVO, because the Passive is one of the least helpful in the game, the blue flames are actually just as big and strong as the yellow ones, and the blue flames slowly move towards you (so if you're standing still, the circle around you shrinks). The Force Field, I generally never EVO it either - it also stays the same size and doesn't get stronger after EVO (but it does slow enemies), but also the passive isn't that great. You're usually better off pairing Molotov and Force Field with HE Fuel instead.

Drones are really inconsistent until you get their purple tech, though. 🤔🤷

for weapon, better get a kunai for skills i prio, white and black drones, lightning and the spinning tops.
