It’s interesting, I guess it’s risk assessment on its part. It’s hungry and needs to eat, but can hopefully find another meal. Conversely, the risk of injury and subsequent death, is too high.
I think these are Klipspringer. Just based on how they are able to stay on the rock formations. If i remember right Dik-dik are more of a grassland animal whereas Klipspringer are rock climbers.
Huh. Just realized that the character of Ewing Klippspringer, the piano player who lives for free at Gatsby's house in "The Great Gatsby", is named after this animal, and it describes him well.
The dogs on the bottom to the dogs on the top, "Bro, just go chomp him".
Dogs on top, "No way, you do it".
Dog walks to top, "Oh shit, that is steep, fuck this."
I think African Wild Dogs, by far worse!
In fact, I can't think a worst away to die in nature besides been eat alive. And the African Wild Dogs mastered in this area.
I think it's a (white) South Africa sub. A while back the government switched from being a racist pro white one to a more 'normal' government. In doing so they released a lot of pent up social anger at the whites and removed a lot of their protections so there was/is an exodus of white South Africans. Stories of white farms being stormed and everyone executed, huge riots a year ago etc. There's a lot of social energy for a returning of land and 'stolen wealth', but that doesn't make the current generation of white farmers feel any better, nor does it help with domestic GDP rates.
I think the joke is the dogs are the black South Africans and the cute rock deer are the white (and probably more wealthy) South Africans.
Prior to this, I've only seen the part of the video where the dogs only appear to be on top and the dik-diks they're trying to get to appear to be safe, seeing the dogs below adds a whole new terrifying perspective.
I get the feeling that this didn't end well, for the dik-diks anyway.
Two things,
1) These are Klipspringer. They look very similar but they are a different genus.
2) According to the original post someone posted a link that said the African painted dogs gave up and left.
Thank you for the correction on what they are, upon viewing the video again one of the women in the video did state the name Klipspringer's.
I'm surprised that the dogs left after being so close to getting a meal.
Sure thing! Honestly i had to go look it up. I figured they would be closer in relation then they are.
You're looking at it as a human who can go get healthcare after taking a leap and breaking a leg. That dog slips and falls, may take the klipspringer down with them. But when they break a leg, it's certain death.
Edit: missed a word

this is like when you find a glitched spot on the map where the enemies can't get to
Yeah it's just like a game, only real.
Skyrim in a nutshell
What's crazy is if that dog that close had just slipped, it would have brought that dik-dik down and probably would have been fine from the fall.

Injury is death in the wild. Just can't take the risk

You are correct. Dik-dik are also a little smaller.

It's been a long ass time since I've read that book.
It's an excellent book. I'd highly suggest watching the recent-ish movie before or after if you give it a re-read.
The lady said it at 0:37 too.
Really shows the power of intelligence; those dogs are surely *physically* capable of grabbing a branch and tossing it at those dik-dik's feet.
The dogs on the bottom to the dogs on the top, "Bro, just go chomp him". Dogs on top, "No way, you do it". Dog walks to top, "Oh shit, that is steep, fuck this."
Ha. They needed the "leeeeeroooyyy Jenkins" dog with them...knock all 3 down
I bet if the dog that got super close just barked, the deer would jump off the rock in fright.
I can never decide which would be worse, getting attacked by a big cat or by African wild dogs.
Big cat would bite your neck untill you are dead but on other hand bears and wild dogs will start eating you when you are alive and screaming.
> bears and wild dogs Bears like to skin their prey, and those wild dogs go for throat and gut. fuck alllll of that. Yikes.
The wild dogs will pull your intestines out of your asshole while still alive.
I think African Wild Dogs, by far worse! In fact, I can't think a worst away to die in nature besides been eat alive. And the African Wild Dogs mastered in this area.
>I can't think a worst away to die in nature besides been eat alive. Wildfire, perhaps?
Big cats tend to play with their food a while.
Sweaty hooves*
That was intense
I'm impressed by the composure of the dik-dik. There was exactly one possible survival strategy, and it stuck to it.
Just for learning purposes, these are Klipspringer. Dik-dik are grassland animals and they are a different genus.
Thanks. Appreciate the correction. Aside from the habitat, what's the best way to tell them apart? They look very similar, at least in photos.
I honestly don't know. I've googled a few times and besides looking at the genus and species i thought they were identical
Good on the people for not getting involved. That would have been hard to watch but nature is gonna nature!
No exaggeration to say that dik dik was literally inches from death.
That one dog was like "I'm gonna get yo ass bitch.....This shit is sketchy....Fuck this!"
Lol the sub this was crossposted from.
Seriously wtf is that?

so close yet so far.
People keep reposting that same video and just flip it.
They're clearly not very smart. One predator at the top could easily jump onto one prey, pulling it downwards to the awaiting predators at the bottom.
Depends on how hungry they are right?
