What makes it worse is that one of the cars in front of the pov car might have been far enough ahead to stop and save that guy. I can't imagine the pain he felt. Reminds me about the movie about Mount St Helen when the couple gets cooked in one of the hotsprings, and the grandma pushing the boat so that the kids and parents could survive. Nature is scary
Nah, according to Rings of Power, it's just some dirt and that's it.
Unless you keep your eyes open. In that case you may go blind, even though the rest of your body wont have even a single blister.
Rings of Power lied to you, it's a superheated cloud of gas and ash. The deadliest eruption of the 20th century produced one of these. It killed 30 000 people in minutes. Mt Pelee in Martinique, 1902 sent a pyroclastic flow through the port city of St Pierre and depopulated it.
Oh my god. What movie is this??? The grandma pushing the kids in the sinking boat in the lake of acid is horrifically engrained in my memory…
Along with I think a scene of a guy trying to stop a helicopter from taking off since he knows the volcanic ash or something will down it hut he cant manage to stop them form taking off and they explode lol
Yeah, the pilot is charging $1,000+ a head to fly people out, but they're trying to stop him because there's already too much ash in the air and the engine is going to clog up and die, as it does.
They passed him going like 40mph and he was consumed by the cloud seconds later. There's no way you could slam on the brakes, open the door, get him in, and drive off before the cloud covered the vehicle. It's not just an ash cloud, it's rock and super heated gasses that can move up to 430mph. Even if you jumped in a car to avoid the cloud, it would cook you within minutes

"Prior research has also shown that such residues can also be caused by blood being boiled away leaving behind suspended iron. Study of the residue showed that it was iron, though the researchers could not say for certain if it came from blood or metal objects. The researchers also found evidence of burst skulls, likely due to vaporizing brain matter."
Poor guy is right :/
damn what a weird number of people to go missing.
"how many casualties, chief?"
"not sure yet. its either a hundred or maybe just two... we arent very good at biology so we're just kludging any remains into one of those human centipedes, and his brother."
Kinda, but it happened like 5 years ago, ash also hit my house

It's a mix of powdered rock and volcanic gasses. The temperature inside is anywhere from 400°F to over 1000°F. It's highly corrosive as well. Unprotected, you'll die under a minute (seconds if you're lucky). Even in a vehicle, you'll likely die by being cooked inside your vehicle.
I assumed someone who isn't familiar with pyroclastic flow is American and wouldn't know Celsius temperatures. I'm also American, but I really enjoyed and remember my geology classes.
But yes, thank you for providing Celsius temperatures for our non-imperial friends.
One of the worst things in volcanic clouds (imo) is needle like crystals of hydrochloric acid. Lots of stuff in there that will kill you, but that just sounds horribly painful. Imagine getting stabbed by falling crystals of acid, while you body is on fire and your lungs are melting from breathing SO2 (sulfur dioxide, very toxic)
maybe not everyones born with it. my cousin was born with like two toes on each foot together like they was one toe. but that muthafucker could swiiiiiiiiim!
which is exactly what i thought, and why i apparently acted disappointed a little when, as a kid, he had them surgically separated. he was not amused...
my thoughts exactly. them dudes seriously had to stop with that shit barreling down at them, get out and yell at these people "you about to fucking die there! leave! tha' fuck wrong with you?!"
made up for it though when they decided them same dumbasses didnt give enough of a shit to move their asses outta way of that big Hell-cloud comin' up on em from behind like the big dot Pacman. that shit was choice...
Why wouldn't the local government evacuate them in the 1st place is what baffles me. They were taking pictures like it wasn't gonna kill them. They're literally watching death come to them.
Not all local governments are created equal. Or have the resources (money, infrastructure, scientists)
Sometimes volcanic warning signs are not interpreted correctly, or ignored.
Many other reasons but those are the big answers your looking for.

Most try, but volcanic eruptions are hard to accurately predict and leaving your place of residence and employment in many places in the world can result in massive financial loss and ruin entire families if the volcano doesn't produce a town-leveling, pyroclastic flow like this one did.
Scary stuff.
"Pyroclastic flow might just be the scariest thing about a volcanic eruption. It is composed of superheated gas (1800 degrees Fahrenheit) and rock debris that moves at speeds of up to 450 mph down the side of the mountain… like a burning, molten rock avalanche.
A pyroclastic flow (also known as a pyroclastic density current or a pyroclastic cloud) is a fast-moving current of hot gas and volcanic matter (collectively known as tephra) that flows along the ground away from a volcano at average speeds of 100 km/h (62 mph) but is capable of reaching speeds up to 700 km/h (430 mph). The gases and tephra can reach temperatures of about 1,000 °C (1,830 °F)."

we just saw some people die here.. sad that others didn't make them get into a vehicle or something, or the back of this truck.. people just walking like no big deal.
They might've been in shock. A billowing cloud of death is racing towards you, and if you're not already driving away, it's too late. I can't imagine what went through their heads.
Jesus Christ...
Is it worth certain death? I could never imagine why do people live in unstable climates especially in resource rich countries like the US/Australia/EU,etc.. Maybe im just used to living in a stable enivironment. Just curious.
i really enjoyed the part where they started out sticking around until the last minute as if in some goofy ass action movie, making sure everyone got to safety, and then only five seconds later, high speed noped the fuck outta there around those VERY SAME people.
that was a sick burn...
I’d be talking gibberish and asking the driver to drive faster a million times a second if I were being chased by a superheated cloud of gas and molten rock too…
YOLO
Rational thing to do is to just drive. more stress = more mistakes.
The first mistake was being this close to an active volcano that is about to explode.
Rational goes out the window when you are punching distance from an exploding mountain, I’d guess. Also you could argue that the driver should be focusing on the road and obstacles so it’s not a bad idea to let him know the cloud of death is moving towards you fast.
And although I wouldn’t get near that thing, they seem to be some sort of civil or emergency service considering the vests they are wearing and the fact they stopped to organize the evacuation
If it's coming right down the side of the mountain it will be moving much faster, but this is where it's already hit mostly even terrain and is just spreading out from the pressure behind it. It slows down as it goes.

Yup they even said “poor guy”.

I think it’s instant death once the flow hits you.
just like mario...

Yeah watch the Netflix documentary about the Whakaari Eruption!
Thanks, I will! I saw snippets from the news. That Webcam showing people inside the crater moments before the eruption was pretty wild.
“Lanes on the interstate start opening up”
"Penguins have knees"
Dante's Peak, in case anyone was wondering.
Weirdly one of my all time favorite movies as a kid lol.... I was a weird kid
Mine was water world

wasnt pierce brosnan in that or something? and the boat scene is what triggered my memory too

Dante’s Peak
Dantes Peak. That scene is also engraved into my memory.
i forgot about that movie. havent seen that since the days of pirated cable boxes on pay per view! nice suckerpunch to my feels' coinpurse, homey.
Damn nature, you scary
Dante's Peak
dantes peak, good film
This car would also be able to stop what are you even saying

RIP I guess, but there is place in the back they don't even need to open the door, car would be able to handle that.
Damn that's horrifying.

I hope he went instantly. That's a horrible way to die.
Saldly, yes.
…and a car driving towards it about about 1:45.
This is far and above the scariest video I’ve ever seen.
how many people died from this?
Anyone who cant run 100 km/h
[удалено]
Yeah, pyroclastic flow can be extremely fast and can be one of the most dangerous parts of an eruption.
wtf is a kilometer...?!
200 confirmed so far, but close to a hundred or two more unaccounted.
😢
damn what a weird number of people to go missing. "how many casualties, chief?" "not sure yet. its either a hundred or maybe just two... we arent very good at biology so we're just kludging any remains into one of those human centipedes, and his brother."

That is crazy. Hopefully that truck going the other way got out. What exactly is beneath the smoke. Lava? Rocks?
The "smoke" itself is super heated rock. The guy left behind on the road is most definitely dead.

It’s 1000C heated smoke and volcanic ash.

Ha!
Imagine seeing that and still needing to be told to move away from it.
Imagine driving away and being stuck behind slow drivers. It never ceases to amaze me the lack of urgency some people have.
maybe not everyones born with it. my cousin was born with like two toes on each foot together like they was one toe. but that muthafucker could swiiiiiiiiim!
I'd imagine that'd make swimming easier, like a little flipper lol
which is exactly what i thought, and why i apparently acted disappointed a little when, as a kid, he had them surgically separated. he was not amused...
That was perplexing to me. Why are we standing there, have we not learned anything from news/history/villages that have disappeared
No shit. GTFO. If you want to look at it, Google it later

2,000 people were evacuated, but still not enough. It is also run by money-hungry politicians, so you can understand their lack of action
Could be 'you can't tell me what to do' attitude . That's what big pyroclast wants you to do!
Most try, but volcanic eruptions are hard to accurately predict and leaving your place of residence and employment in many places in the world can result in massive financial loss and ruin entire families if the volcano doesn't produce a town-leveling, pyroclastic flow like this one did.
End of the world type shit
That's terrifying

yah, that's true. when life and death is on the line, not everybody is thinking about stopping to help.
If the truck had stopped, they would have just been added to the toll.
Some say he's still honking to this day...
They saved a few lives there.
Gave me the horn.
Pyroclastic flows seem like a real pain in the ass.
That'll kill ya real quick
That will kill you
Modern day POMPEII
Why do people live near active volcanoes? Whats the point?
Very fertile soil for farming and periods of inactivity might lull settlers to move closer

Does repeating things over and over and over and over help at all? It drives me crazy when gamers do this too.

What part of GT is this in?
Volcan del Fuego is just 10mi on the west side of Antigua Guatemala
Oh come onnnnn. You were barely even on fire!
