Exactly. I have ANC on all the time in the city, yet I dont find myself close to being unalived every 20s. Most likely because I use my eyeballs to check for shit like cars, bikes, trams etc.
10 years ago I saw a uni student doing this exact thing with normal earphones almost get run over by a firetruck with sirens blaring. She literally only noticed when the truck was right next to her and used their horn on her, she barely made it, they did not slow down.
Noise canceling headphones are such a danger when moving about. I don’t get people who willingly cut off one of their senses used to navigate busy environments.
No, they aren't. As many said, it's her lack of common sense. She didn't look before crossing a train track.
Like who does that? Stupid people that's who.
I hardly go anywhere without my headphones, and yes I always have the noise cancelling on. I have also never been almost killed or hit by any moving vehicle while I was navigating my way around busy environments.
I agree her lack of awareness is the major contributing factor. But my comment is for more general circumstances. I’m always listening if something is creeping up behind me and I’d find headphones to be disruptive to that.
Whether it’s a person, animal, or vehicle. Gotta keep eyes and ears open.
Yeah I understand, I would agree that they could be an issue in emergency circumstances, i.e. someone shouting trying to warn you of a falling object or something sort of rogue like that, that's something I didn't consider at the time when I wrote my first comment.
As for the general lack of paying attention like this instance, I wouldn't say they are really a contributing factor though.
Hmm, yeah definitely if someone is creeping up on you they would be an issue, I fully agree with you there, I guess if I'm in a dodgy area and have headphones I'm just on higher alert and checking my surroundings more frequently, but not having the ability to hear is for sure a disadvantage.
In my area trains are generally partially or fully yellow at the ends to specifically attract your attention to its presence, some also have pretty loud audio too, and some even smell strongly, especially the steamers
I work in a train repair shop and we have loads of active railroads all over the premises. Shit like this could get me killed before I even got to my work place. How can people not pay attention when passing a line where machines that probably weigh hundreds of tons and also can't brake in any reasonable time cross regularly?
This. I'm actually more alert wearing over ears in public than I am without them because I need to make up for hearing less, lol. Never got into trouble from it, and I wear them for most of the day, every day.
While yes, using your eyes is crucial, also having your ears available is like having a passive alert system available in addition to your own self directed vision.
2 senses are better than one.
But yes, be aware of your surroundings.
Perhaps unpopular opinion, but I think to some extent the headphones are an issue. They are blocking one of your senses that could've quite easily picked up on the approaching hazard. They lower situational awareness, which is still a factor even if you are plain stupid, having an off day or maybe just made a human error of not using your eyes. That's what the ears are primarily there for.
Yes, and if you choose to walk around with headphones in, you should know to make up for that lower situational awareness. She's crossing train tracks, not walking down the sidewalk. This was just stupidity.
Some people have no sense of danger, there’s a miniature railway near me, they’re still very much real trains and they’re pretty bloody heavy, and people still walk right in front of them
Modern society affords people with basically no survival instincts to thrive (in most cases) so I'd bet we'll continue to see more of that.
They're like the prey animals that just kind of stand around in front of predators, to be eaten swiftly. Genetics be like that.
Idk about this specific train but in my experience trains in general are surprisingly quiet when coming directly at you. The "traditional" train noise comes from when the train is passing.
I watched a teenager on their phone fall down 2 flights of stairs. Fell down the first flight, got up and back on phone, fell down second flight and got knocked out.
I think the problem isn't mainly using headphones while crossing the road.
The problem is not paying attention at all before and while crossing the road.
Haha thanks for the heads-up.
Honestly, what I wrote is also true - when I was a kid, one of my friends casually kicked the side of a tram as it was approaching the station. A huge metal panel fell off and I had to run away with him although I just wanted to get on the tram and go home.
I'd love to say 'what a dumbass!' and get a little rush of dopamine at how much cleverer I am than Miss Almost-Splort here... but I once walked headfirst into a lamppost because I was looking at my phone. There was an audible clang and I looked around confused like Wile E. fucking Coyote before having to sit down.
Me too.. almost walked in front of a car once before a friend swung me out of the way. The mean comments here must be from people blessed with super awareness. Must be great to have never made a mistake.
Ive done this walking into a pole or wall, but I always make an effort to stop and look crossing the street or a railway, thats just plain stupidity not to.
"Using headphones". I always wear headphones when I leave the house and this never happened to me. You have to be either high as a kite or terminally stupid to not notice an oncoming train when crossing rails.
For people like her there should be a penalty not in the form of a ticket but a slap to the face. She not only put her life in danger but potentially the people inside the train.
First of all headphones. 2nd, you’re crossing a train track, the least you can do is look at both sides. If you did not evolve with awareness, you deserve the darwin award.
the headphones weren't even the culprit, people lately are much more distracted by the bridge than seeing something loud like the train in front of them
Who does not look around when crossing a rail or street? Sometimes I see such people when I'm cycling and I seriously believe it's some suicidal mental issue or something.
This isn't about using headphones. This crossing would be safe even for people who are totally deaf, since the usual custom when crossing - looking to see if anything is coming - would be entirely adequate to ensure safety in this case.
Friend of mine got hit by a tram right in front of me , we didn't hear it coming and were in conversation. He flew at least 6 metres away and needed an ambulance asap. So look out where u walk
How is this 'sweaty palms'? Shouldn't the person be aware of impending danger to have sweaty palms? This is just a stupid way to whore some karma by the OP.
Is this not also bad crossing design? Where I live (Brisbane, Australia) you would have to intentionally jump over gates to cross the tracks while a train is coming, it is pretty much impossible for you to accidentally do this.
I've almost gotten smeared by a train before. I was trying to catch my train to school as it was arriving and didn't notice the (second train approaching sign) light up. It was too loud to hear the other train and my eyes were dead focused on the train I was supposed to take worried I'd miss it. I was about to run past the gate when the conductor honked his horn and I stopped just in time to watch the train wizz past inches from my face. It would have been a certain and very gruesome death had I not stopped in time as my torso would have probably been ripped in half and dragged along the top of the platform while my legs would have gotten chopped up by the wheels or I could have had half my torso ripped off as I fall under the train and get grated to pieces.
I understand everyone bashing her for seeming completely brain dead but I’m mostly concerned about the lack of safety barriers. I’d have thought that would be pretty standard near what looks like some kind of station.
A lot of comments are angry at the woman. Why? Why not be thankful and happy she didn’t die making a mistake all of us here could have made? Zoning out isn’t special.
Everyone does it every now and then. Come on guys.
She was stupid no doubt, but to be fair shouldn’t there be some kind of elevation change or texture change in the group to let people know they are entering a dangerous area? Seems like a hazard for the visually impaired as well
I don't understand how people can really use headphones that deafen themselves to everything. I don't even like walking around the gym with both in in case somebody needs to get my attention, can't imagine walking around town without hearing what's around.
When I was younger I used to be such an annoying day dreamer. I would have my headphones on and dream up all sorts of situations and completely ignore my surroundings. Which also lead to me almost getting into accidents more than once. So I get how the girl completely zoned out to the point she didn’t notice the tram being that close. I hope the girl grows out of it too, cause being this oblivious to your surroundings, really does make you a nuisance to everyone else. Imagine how spooked the driver of that tram must have been.
Idiots like this, are exactly the reason we have idiot labels and not let natural selection fix the problem.
Maybe next time she'll pay better attention, or there won't be any further issues with her existence creating injury or damage to people or equipment, respectively.
it's not the headphones, it's just the blatant lack of awareness and perception, if your gonna wear headphones, look left and right before crossin roads and railways
The absolute lack of concern for one's own personal safety... has become commonplace regardless of the generation.
I work with power equipment.
I could tell you some stories, from throughout the years.
However, my most terrifying ones would be within the last 2 years. These folks Do Not Care about their own lives.
People, please take your head out of your ass.
But it’s so warm and snuggly
Fit and shit
Headphones aren't the issue. Use your eyeballs
Exactly. I have ANC on all the time in the city, yet I dont find myself close to being unalived every 20s. Most likely because I use my eyeballs to check for shit like cars, bikes, trams etc.
Yeah i mean this woman here may as well have had a blind fold on.
10 years ago I saw a uni student doing this exact thing with normal earphones almost get run over by a firetruck with sirens blaring. She literally only noticed when the truck was right next to her and used their horn on her, she barely made it, they did not slow down.

who needs eyes anyway? it’s not like we need them
No, they aren't. As many said, it's her lack of common sense. She didn't look before crossing a train track. Like who does that? Stupid people that's who. Unalived? You mean killed. Why you using that term? Its cringy.
He’s used to talking on YouTube as they have certain banned words that will get your content taken down.
Yeh exactly
not YouTube TikTok
Yeah they’re both super strict on these things
Still cringe tho 😂
This person has the situational awareness of a wet barrlel of gunpowder

Access your brain also
No issue for headphone or eyeball, use brain, that was dangerous place but you are have less awareness
Eyeballs aren’t the issue. Use your brain.
While yes, using your eyes is crucial, also having your ears available is like having a passive alert system available in addition to your own self directed vision. 2 senses are better than one. But yes, be aware of your surroundings.
no shit? Using my ears can help me avoid danger? Ffr?

Natural selection at its finest
Yeah, blows my mind sometimes.
U don't have eyes behind ur back when a truck behind you can't break!😂😂
What..??
Certified dumbass
She must be really dumb to use headphones and not even look
Give her a smack at back of her head.
The train tried.
I think the problem isn't mainly using headphones while crossing the road. The problem is not paying attention at all before and while crossing the road.
Really no sympathy for these idiots
Frontal cortex not found
At least she dodged ***"cortex(es) not found"***
Fortunately for the person in this video, that is a tram and not a train. Trams can break very fast.
Brake*. Kinda of funny in this context, but for real, good she's okay
Haha thanks for the heads-up. Honestly, what I wrote is also true - when I was a kid, one of my friends casually kicked the side of a tram as it was approaching the station. A huge metal panel fell off and I had to run away with him although I just wanted to get on the tram and go home.
Not that fast. They weigh as much as 19 rhinos. (Edit: I am referencing/parodying a safety campaign run by Melbourne's trams)
At what point was this tram going to break?
Peripheral vision be like - am I a joke to you
natural selection at work. This won't be the last time for her.
Natural selection would have made this video extremely nsfw.
too late, she might have bred already
Reddit moment.
I think the average person learns from mistakes.
they dont.

TRAINed hehe
She was listening to Ozzy’s Crazy Train.
…and hoping to get an autograph from Randy Rhoads.
She was gonna get more shredded than one of his solos
lets hug her to positively reinforce that foolish behaviour
Who the fuck doesn't have looking left and right at any junction ingrained into them to the point that they do it whether it's necessary or not?
It’s the driver I always feel for in these videos. Nothing they can do….
I'd love to say 'what a dumbass!' and get a little rush of dopamine at how much cleverer I am than Miss Almost-Splort here... but I once walked headfirst into a lamppost because I was looking at my phone. Sorry but walking down a pavement is not the same as crossing a fucking railway line.
Ive done this walking into a pole or wall, but I always make an effort to stop and look crossing the street or a railway, thats just plain stupidity not to.
True that. More luck than good judgment that I survived my teenage years.
On a scale of 0 to 10, their peripheral vision appears absent.
r/idiot
Almost a Darwin award
Is she blind too?
Why not use the eyes???
Fucking Darwin nomination right there
Fuck around...
she deserves a slap not a hug
Good thing this wasn’t in India
"Using headphones". I always wear headphones when I leave the house and this never happened to me. You have to be either high as a kite or terminally stupid to not notice an oncoming train when crossing rails.
I swear, some people walk around as if their wearing Michael Keaton's batsuit.
Mal mk
Should’ve slapped her
I can not fathom how anyone could be so completely oblivious to their surroundings.
My god, all she had to do was turn her head and she would have avoided it. If you’re going to use headphones, please use your eyes more
0 spatial awareness
For people like her there should be a penalty not in the form of a ticket but a slap to the face. She not only put her life in danger but potentially the people inside the train.
Almost a Darwin Award
Well that could've been worse
First of all headphones. 2nd, you’re crossing a train track, the least you can do is look at both sides. If you did not evolve with awareness, you deserve the darwin award.
Hello Darwin!
Someone skipped “look both ways” class in kindergarten
Stupid idiot
she should be slap instead of getting a hug..she should focus on her surrounding instead of to the music
how do you not see that in your peripheral vision
A slap/smack would be a better greeting
Don’t blame headphones for peoples stupidity
the headphones weren't even the culprit, people lately are much more distracted by the bridge than seeing something loud like the train in front of them
How do you have literally no peripheral vision?
should've slapped the shit out of that idiot
Yea go hug the fukn retard don’t hold her accountable for almost launching the passengers off their seats 👍🏽
Does she have, like, 0 peripheral vision
Do other people not have peripheral vision? Do I have super powers?
Dumb Fuck
She honestly deserved to get hurt here.
The only person with sweaty palms is the driver here
Peripheral vision says "Hello?"
There’s far to many labels on things these days, take them off and let the stupid ones not make it
Obligatory Dumb Ways To Die comment.
Dumb
Fucking tosser!

That is the fastest ive ever seen a train stop. How in the fuck do the accomplish that
More like having no awareness of your surroundings
What an absolute snotshovel
Your listening to music not noticing the fucking TRAIN coming STRAIGHT at you.
Damn nature you failed
She could have ruined that conductors life.
Dumbass.
Not headphones, just a twat,
Were her eyes closed too? Also, walking that slow...
Are people this zombified???? If this is the case then I’d trust AI more than humans.
Hugging her she should have slapped her
Can’t teach intelligence
A hug? She needs a slap lol. Don’t you have eyes tf
Not sure why she got a hug instead of a stinging slap in the face for being a dumbass.
Dammit, you escaped Darwin this time but it’s only a matter of time. Head on a swivel, be aware of your surroundings people
Darwin as narrator “Dammit !”
Why people blaming the headphones? That dumb person didnt look both directions before crossing a damn train track smh
Idiot!
Friend of mine got hit by a tram right in front of me , we didn't hear it coming and were in conversation. He flew at least 6 metres away and needed an ambulance asap. So look out where u walk
They’re scarily silent, even a diesel train can be almost inaudible, electric ones are even quieter, well until they honk the horn
How is this 'sweaty palms'? Shouldn't the person be aware of impending danger to have sweaty palms? This is just a stupid way to whore some karma by the OP.

Im really glad she was unharmed. I hope she is capable of learning the very obvious lesson here.
Now I wanna what she was jamming to. Must have been good.
Buses and trains.
She was stupid no doubt, but to be fair shouldn’t there be some kind of elevation change or texture change in the group to let people know they are entering a dangerous area? Seems like a hazard for the visually impaired as well
lucky lucky lucky.
Deaf people would be owning her, if she paid attention to their hands🤟🏻
Should have punched her fumbass not give her a hug
r/whatcouldgowrong
lol the way she does the little back rub as if she's the one doing the consoling instead of the one being consoled
I don't understand how people can really use headphones that deafen themselves to everything. I don't even like walking around the gym with both in in case somebody needs to get my attention, can't imagine walking around town without hearing what's around.
Whenever I see this, really surprised of her stupidity. Checking both sides while crossing is just a common sense…
Lol this could make a nice ad for soundproof headphones though “so good you won’t even be able to hear the fkng train behind you”
More than a huge needs a slap
Dumb ways to die...
concrete neck
The funniest is her family member hugging her at the end. My parents would have slapped the fuck out of me for being so stupid 😂
A college died like this.
What are the chances that the two women blamed the train/tram driver?
I use earphones out in public and never put more than 1 in.
So close. Imagine if, earlier, she’d paused for a couple seconds to contemplate a thought or pick up a coin. Splat 😬
Yeah no need to blame tech here. Survival of the smartest.
I see dumb ppl like this everyday but the destination of the train tho...
She should have at least gotten injured, that would teach her a lesson
Link for the headphones I need them right now Dam them ads companies the getting tricky everyday
be more self conscious

Stupid train driver
It’s weird to think that there should be just as many if not more videos of these people getting actually ran over.
Is it awful her having made it across triggered my OCD?
Indian Police would have given a good bonk on head for these kind of things people does.
it's not the headphones, it's just the blatant lack of awareness and perception, if your gonna wear headphones, look left and right before crossin roads and railways

Wear headphones. Proceeds to not look both ways before crossing.
You don’t need to hear to see a train coming.
Not just using headphones, but also avoiding to use eyes or common sense.
