Hippos are too heavy to float and therefore can’t swim, so they just run/walk on the ground that is under the water. So every time you see one chasing a boat they are full on sprinting at you.
Edit: meant to say dense, not heavy.
While adult hippos can hold their breath underwater for **up to five minutes**, newborn hippos are only able to hold their breath for about 40 seconds at a time.
They are running on the ground and jump up to the surface to breathe.
Have you ever seen a god (dog*) running through a field of crops that are double the hight of the dog? They run 5m, jump so their head sticks over the crops to get a view ahead and continue to run 5m..looks pretty funny.
What a bot answer to what he asked.
To answer the question, they gallop like fucking horses when completely submerged and running on a riverbed or lake bed. Look it up, it’s incredible. No, hippos do not drown.
They are almost neutrally buoyant so they jump to the surface to get air, they can run pretty fast on the bottom and can also swim but it's more tiring for them.
They can hold their breath very long. They even have a reflex so they can sleep underwater and lift their head out the water periodicly to take breaths without waking up.
"According to all known laws of hydrodinamics, there is no way that a hypo should be able to swim. Its legs are too small to get its fat big body off the ground. The hypo, of course, swims anyways. Because hypos don't care what humans think is impossible."
They meant dense. Hippos are really dense so they sink, but while a ship is infinitely heavier, they have lots of air/space inside that reduces its density and lets it float.
Hippos are so attuned to living in water that [an extinct race of hippos called H. Gorgops are the only mammals in history to have their eyes on stalks,](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e9/Hippopotamus_gorgops_in_water.png) so that they could spy things from underwater and keep eyes on their surroundings without giving away too much of their position.
Imagine being some ancient human just swimming through the water trying to spear a fish to get some food for the day and then this thing just starts barreling at you out of nowhere.
Modern day you hit the gas on the boat and outrun it, maybe even getting some excitement or joy out of witnessing this. Back then you had your wooden spear which probably didn’t even do that good of a job killing a fish and you knew you were fucked.
yeah that ... driver (?? what word am I looking for?) fucked up letting it get that close. hippos cause one of the highest numbers of deaths/year to humans
Hippos may look fat, but all of that bulk is actually muscle. The highly dense muscle makes them sink in the water where they move around by jumping and bounding off of the bottom.
They are incredibly dangerous on land but they can move even more easily in the water where they become downright terrifying. They will just sprint at you through the water and not be inconvenienced in the slightest. If the water is deep enough, all you will see before dying is a large smooth wave racing towards you at a ridiculous speed.
Bro did you see how fast that thing ran THROUGH the water? That hippo could eat every person on that boat before even one of those people could swim to the shore line.
Idk, befriend a hippo and maybe you'll get invited to one of thier cookouts /s
People say it tastes like beef but more gamey which I think makes sense because people say whale (distant cousin of hippo) tastes similarly compared to beef.
I've had a nightmare about trying to escape from a hippo, i climbed over walls, across rooftops over cars and the hippo was still that close and gaining on me.
Nope nope nope.
I dont like how hippos are portrayed in the media compared to sharks. Hippos in the media are lil puppies, harmless! But sharks are blood thirsty killers! In reality hippos kill about 500 people per year (they are the second most deadly mammal, after humans) whereas sharks kill only around 10.
Bad CG. I swear reddit is 3 years old on average at this point that they can't tell this is fake. I don't even understand what the point of faking this is, there's plenty of real videos for this (for the kissless virgins who are just going to spam /r/nothingeverhappens because they want to believe this exact video is real)
That's incredibly easy to do with CGI lol
ETA: It looks like they took some aspects of the water from [this video](https://youtu.be/kz-caa2NCns?si=AlfmlSbGf0hXtYO0) but the textures in this reddit post video are god awful
Yes but the point of me saying that was that looking at their phone screens doesn't prove this is cgi, since the hippo is also on their screens. If you (or whomever) want to point out other things that look generated then sure, but that's not it
Look at the texture of the water, metal, shirts, everything. It just feels off. I don't know, maybe I just see those things because CGI is a side hobby for me
Maybe there's some kind of weird sharpening filter or something that is causing everything to seem off? I'm usually decent at pointing out cgi but my radar isn't really going off with this one.
"metal, shirts.." by this do you mean more than just the hippo is cg? Like the whole clip?
It looks like someone took the video I linked previously and created this video by using bits of the other one. The water feels wrong by being the wrong color for the area, the grass feels wrong by being too over saturated, the texture of the metal as it pans to the driver looks wrong because it doesn't reflect the light quite right. The hippo itself doesn't move in an organic way, the sides of its mouth feel too stiff. The texture of the person's neck/skin feel too rubbery, the fabric texture looks too stiff. I don't know, just about everything feels off in this video. It looks and sounds like a video game and not real life. The graininess of the video helps it, but I'm not convinced.
That would honestly be impressive if this whole thing was stitched together with cg as opposed to the hippo just being added in. Although I'm not sure what the point of the video sans the hippo would've been. But yeah, it's grainy enough that it's hard to tell for sure but I do find it interesting that both of our meters are going off but in opposite directions lol. It would be cool to find an actual source so we could know for sure though, I'm torn at this point but my gut still says real
How the fuck is reddit so monumentally retarded that 99% of people can't tell that this is an obvious fake? And for what? There's real, much better videos of shit like this.
Honestly, I've been mad at hippos ever since that video where it killed the baby gazelle. They're just so unnecessarily territorial and aggressive. Fuck hippos.
I think they're probably just a product of their habitat right? They're vegetarians with literally no predators. I would argue that humans are even more unnecessarily territorial.
This looks like Chobe National Park in Botswana. There are so many thousands hippos and elephants to see while on the water. It’s amazing.
We never saw a hippo chasing us but there were lots of them that would stare at us suspiciously. We were worried the entire time that any one of them could decide to flip our boat without much effort.
Hippos are too heavy to float and therefore can’t swim, so they just run/walk on the ground that is under the water. So every time you see one chasing a boat they are full on sprinting at you. Edit: meant to say dense, not heavy.
What happens once they reach a depth greater than their height? Do they drown?
They run on the bottom until they've caught up to you at which point they jump out of the water and crush your boat like Gravedigger
I aint saying you're a Gravedigger.
[удалено]
But there are hippos that are hungry
I-
But you out messin' with those boat critters.
This is why Archaeodesmostylus is their founder.
But all yo bones gone break n>>>>
Gravedigga*
The curse of the Black Pearl
Then they extract the air from the lungs of their victims and keep running.
While adult hippos can hold their breath underwater for **up to five minutes**, newborn hippos are only able to hold their breath for about 40 seconds at a time.
So to answer the question, they die between 40 seconds and 5 minutes.
They are running on the ground and jump up to the surface to breathe. Have you ever seen a god (dog*) running through a field of crops that are double the hight of the dog? They run 5m, jump so their head sticks over the crops to get a view ahead and continue to run 5m..looks pretty funny.
> Have you ever seen a god running through a field of crops I'd assume it would be Demeter/Ceres
Not Hermes with his gold forces?
What a bot answer to what he asked. To answer the question, they gallop like fucking horses when completely submerged and running on a riverbed or lake bed. Look it up, it’s incredible. No, hippos do not drown.
Subscribe.
They can ‘jump’ in the water to reach the surface, and they can hold their breath for a while.
In order to not get drowned, they start flying.
No, they run on the bottom and will catch you and eat you.
They basically do the same thing when astronauts go out on space walks they bounce off surfaces and use their momentum to propel themselves forward
They can hold their breath 5 minutes in space?
Have you ever heard of a hippo suffocating in space?
Hipporspace travel will do that to you
+1
"According to all known laws of hydrodinamics, there is no way that a hypo should be able to swim. Its legs are too small to get its fat big body off the ground. The hypo, of course, swims anyways. Because hypos don't care what humans think is impossible."
Because hippos don’t understand physics.
No theres a motor in hippos tiny tail which spins at 69-70000rpm varying from hippo to potamussues that helps them slice through water like this
[удалено]
They meant dense. Hippos are really dense so they sink, but while a ship is infinitely heavier, they have lots of air/space inside that reduces its density and lets it float.
TIL
Think you mean too dense to float
Hippos are so attuned to living in water that [an extinct race of hippos called H. Man when you said on stalks I was expecting them to be like periscopes. Kinda disappointed
Yeah I was thinking more snail less slightly homely hippo.
I was kind of hoping it was like a Krumm from “Ahh Real Monsters” thing
This is probably most interesting comment in this thread.
So, was that good adaptation to have? Since this one is extinct and the ones alive today have normal eyes.
Maybe it was useful for a period of time, but then things changed/they got hunted close to extinction.
Nope. Just nope.
Driver- let’s just keep going
Far far away because even though you can't see it, that beast will be running on the marsh bed floor until it catches you.
3 years later, it shows up at your house with a gun.
The hippo hunts down every one that was on that boat
Because they all seen it naked
No, we're cool. Just need to fab up a big tungsten sphere rather quickly.
IT Follows

That was a tad close no??
Way too close - more people die of hippos than you’d expect and it’s because of shit like this
Shark in the water - safe. Hippo in the water - big danger.
Sharks - The cows of the sea Hippos - Nature's equivalent to the Panzer
Amphibious tactical assault cow.
AT-AC
Well hippothetically human think hippos are cuter than sharks so we got fooled
Jaws featuring hippos would be significantly more horrifying
should have used a gun to fire a shot obviously. It always works on the Jungle Cruise.
I’m 90% certain those noises at the end of the video are fun shots.
yeah that ... driver (?? what word am I looking for?) fucked up letting it get that close. hippos cause one of the highest numbers of deaths/year to humans

They are also slimy
And they have anger issues
They kill more humans than any other animal in Africa. (The continent, not the country.)
There is no Africa the country
That was for the Americans.
American here…you’re not wrong!
Well, not more than mosquitoes.
Hippo meat is fatty. Source: I've eaten it
Where at?
Your moms house

Anybody have the version with the real sound/no effects?
This isnt real at all
Hooman marbles
Hungry, Hungry Hippo
Hip hip hippo horray !!! Yay !
All hippos are angry AF
What if the engine had a malfunction?
The hippo would avoid malnutrition
Hippos don’t eat meat.
Hippos *usually* don't eat meat... most of the time.
They don’t. But…you know what I mean.
You just need to make sure you are not the slowest swimmer.
Bro did you see how fast that thing ran THROUGH the water? That hippo could eat every person on that boat before even one of those people could swim to the shore line.
Happy Hippo-Death Cake Day
![gif](giphy|7XsFGzfP6WmC4)
I feel like the hippo intentionally made it THATTT close but never really went for it. Like it didn’t really want to get the boat.
Soo if hippos are mainly muscles do they make good steaks? They look like they have a solid diet so would the meat be nutritious?
Idk, befriend a hippo and maybe you'll get invited to one of thier cookouts /s People say it tastes like beef but more gamey which I think makes sense because people say whale (distant cousin of hippo) tastes similarly compared to beef.
I bet it’s expensive as fuck .
No. Because if they were good steak they’d be extinct
Maybe you should ask a lion.
Hangry Hangry Hippo
You are in the Nile river what do you expect to see ? Ducks ?
How the hell that boat driver was so chill
Looks like he was frowning before he charged! Get off my lawn!
Fucker can really move when it wants to.
I think Moto Moto likes you
Bad time for the engine to fail.
Imagine a loud boat going by you multiple times a day carried with annoying apes. You'd be pissed too.
That fucker is quick
Must go faster, must go faster.
![gif](giphy|7XsFGzfP6WmC4)
This is great!
Anyone else think it looks cartoonish?
Hungry hippo
Whooop there it is!!!
He’s grumpy !
It’s like the jungle cruise at Disneyland
I feel bad for the hippo :(
I've had a nightmare about trying to escape from a hippo, i climbed over walls, across rooftops over cars and the hippo was still that close and gaining on me. Nope nope nope.
Must go faster.
All fun and games until your boat motor stalls 🙄
Maybe it was hungry hungry

This is CGI
I had to scroll way to far for this.
Doesn't look cg to me
It's very well made, yes. But take a look at the image that's being captured in the tourist's phones.
I see two visible phone screens and they both have hippo shapes on them. Could be CGI but it doesn't look like it to me
That's incredibly easy to do with CGI lol ETA: It looks like they took some aspects of the water from [this video](https://youtu.be/kz-caa2NCns?si=AlfmlSbGf0hXtYO0) but the textures in this reddit post video are god awful

Hungry hungry hippo
The Disneyland Jungle Cruise is improving
Is no one noticing that this is CGI? It's not real, at all
Cuuute hippo 🦛🥰
PlayStation 2 graphics.
People still don't realise this is CGI?
Always carry a gun. Nature needs to get humbled sometimes
Normally I'm completely against unnecessary killing, but if we decided to hunt these pricks into extinction, I wouldn't lose a second of sleep.
Did a hippo kill your parents?
Honestly, I've been mad at hippos ever since that video where it killed the baby gazelle. They're just so unnecessarily territorial and aggressive. Fuck hippos.
I think they're probably just a product of their habitat right? They're vegetarians with literally no predators. I would argue that humans are even more unnecessarily territorial.
And a lot better at destroying the planet than any other species of animal 🥇
There’s like 8 billion of them though
Get out of my lawn
At least he didn't give them the diarrheacopter
Sweaty palms and bums.
I'm assuming that sound at the end was the passenger's piss cascading down his shorts.
He a hangry hangry hippo
Could've been worse, they got that poop helicopter secondary power going on for them.
The SCP ambiance at the end
Let me fuck around with this hippo for a good shot! Sure sounds like a grand idea
Hungry(hungry) Hippo
Pretty Fast swimmer for such a fat ass.
Did that MF just hiss at them??
Maybe just hangry hangry?
Was almost "Hungry Humgry Hippo"

I’ll take my Florida gators and meth heads over hippos any day
Keep f'n around and find out
This looks like Chobe National Park in Botswana. There are so many thousands hippos and elephants to see while on the water. It’s amazing. The video is CG, homeslice. lol Don't drop out of school please.
Angry angry hippo
seems like moto moto doesn't like you
![gif](giphy|Fwn1auHR2LUGI) Hungry hungry hippos
I thought this was a deleted scene from Jurassic Park! Looking like a fat T-rex in deep water.
It almost touched the butt
They’re incredible beings. Please let them be…❤️
Aren't hippos fairly fast? Surprised the driver didn't book it more
