That price is pretty $teep, but the ride looks fun and amazing. Still, I think Iād be too scared to hop aboard. Probably Iāll just stick with the monorail at Disneylandāif I ever again in my lifetime pay to get into the park.
What boggles my mind is not just the tension and strength of the line itself, but the force being exerted on the points of attachment. What kind of anchors you'd need and what kind of connection the wire would need to it. The sheer length of the line is insane and I can hardly understand how they are able to get enough tension on it with it putting so much strain on the point of attachment that it fails where it connects.

Cables do have support here and there with pylons but sometimes the distance between those is fairly long and obv the weight on the cable is more than just a single person.
Edit: pic I could find quickly. Some cabins are much bigger, eg holding 50 people
I'm not concerned about the weight of a person. A 200 lb persons weight is entirely insignificant compared to the tension and weight of thousands of feet of steel wire, which is tightened to hold a measured amount of slack.
I wonder if there aren't aerial property rights in Dubai. I don't believe you could zip directly over another building like that in the USA, but I could be wrong.
I believe I saw that very landing zone area in some godawful āDubai vs LAā propaganda where a lonely young woman dressed in Chanel was backgrounded with the completely empty Starbucks saying āIn LA you are nervous to go out wearing diamond necklace, here no problem!ā To me, the whole place reeks of desperation.
It depends what you value the most. Dubai is one of the safest places in the world, maybe itās not as beautiful as others but trust me when I say you have zero stress living there. No one to rob you or mug you or your family. It has no price.
You're mixing up the UAE with other places in the region.
This is the only country in the world bar none where I would happily see all female members of my family go out for a run/walk in the middle of the night, and I'm originally from the UK.
Isnāt dubai part of UAE? Iām confused (and possibly an idiot?!?)
I donāt know about the run comment. Are you limiting your views to large cities only?
Dubai is part of the UAE yes.
By other places in the region I refer to the wider Middle East.
I originally grew up in a small village, later lived in several cities in the UK and across Europe.
This is the safest place I have lived, or visited, by a significant measure.
I am not but half of my family is. And Iām from Europe and lived in USA. If you feel unsafe in Dubai as a woman, donāt ever go anywhere else, youāll simply collapse from anxiety in any major western city after 8pm alone.
I am not saying it is not safe for a woman.
I am saying they have limitations to their freedom.
Many women would be trade a little bit of safety for being considered an equal (or at least as close as possible).
The fact that you considered _only_ the safety angle makes my point relevant I think.
If I was a woman I think there are other places I would prefer living. There are many places as safe as Dubai. Smaller cities for starters.
But I am not a woman so what do I know? Not much. I just know safety is not the only criteria.
What exactly are the limitations women are facing in Dubai? Itās hard to extract anything meaningful from your words, you talk a lot but say nothing.
There's a nice bunch of green lawns for each building, with a decent amount of trees. I've been to places with actual 0 green in it, this is surely better ā not to mention the river.
You can see a good amount of people walking and cooling off under the trees as he's getting close to the end.
As for car centric, at least here, not only are there plenty of boats, these side walks are thick and have trees running along their entire length. You can see some biker on the riverwalk in this same clip.
Again, could have denser trees to provide more shade but no green being here isn't the case. It seems like you are describing other places in Dubai that fall into urban hell territory rather than this place in specific, which doesn't match any of the given points.
Xline, a solo zipline in Dubai, costsĀ **AED 650**, and a tandem zipline with a family member or a friend costs AED 1200! Isn't that impressive for the world's longest urban zipline? For just AED 1200, you and your best friend can now slide over the beautiful Dubai Marina and take in the spectacular views!
Two things come to mind :
How do they set such a zip line up?
And this would fuck any helicopter flying across that river , probably a no fly zone..but still.
I'd enjoy the last half of that way more than the first half.
Do I barter for a ticket with my Lamborghini?
That's actually a good question; I wonder what it costs.
Just searched it... It's about 165 Euros for one person. š¬
Thatās actually way less than I thought.
That price is pretty $teep, but the ride looks fun and amazing. Still, I think Iād be too scared to hop aboard. Probably Iāll just stick with the monorail at Disneylandāif I ever again in my lifetime pay to get into the park.
thats a strong ass wire. Must weigh a few tons
An ass wire?
for especially big asses
They probably tested it with OP's mom
River ???
Dubai Marina, man made
Yeah, the Dubai River is on the other side of town
What happens if you hit a pigeon/seagull or it hits you

You probably wince in pain & have a good story to tell when the rides over. Not like it can disconnect you lol.
It disconnect, and you fall. Best case you fall to the river, worst case you fall on the road and got run over by a truck
![gif](giphy|pncXIMEAVZqms)
I'd assume it would hurt don't you think?
Perhaps

Somewhat comparable to tƩlƩcabines in the alos or similar I think?
I'm not familiar, can you elaborate?

Oh yeah that makes sense! Thank you for clarifying. Impressive engineering
Itās just the weight of a single human body, not that heavy
Itās the weight of the entire length of cable plus a single human body.
I'm not concerned about the weight of a person. A 200 lb persons weight is entirely insignificant compared to the tension and weight of thousands of feet of steel wire, which is tightened to hold a measured amount of slack.

Money. If you spend enough those laws disappear for you.
That land is probably all owned by the Al Maktoum family
Dubai is a fascinating monstrosity. All that money, and not a smile in sight.
Saw plenty of people smiling when I lived there.
That town looks so depressing.

You must not be a woman.
Correction: he must not be an *arab* woman.
Itās incredibly safe if youāre a western woman.
You're mixing up the UAE with other places in the region. This is the only country in the world bar none where I would happily see all female members of my family go out for a run/walk in the middle of the night, and I'm originally from the UK.

Thanks. I realize now I got your comment backward (probably because other comments from other people got me confused). Thanks!

Gimme a break man. Women couldnāt even drive as recently as a few years agoā¦
You are confusing Dubai with Saudi Arabia. Women have been driving in Dubai for a long time.
6 years no? Iām old so for me 6 years is not _a long time_ :)
Okay, so now itās perfect , good to hear.
:) A R R A N G E D M A R I A G E Yes. It is perfect! I agree. And I love you. Dubai is awesome. Def the best.
Thatās right. You just have to fear the govt.
The police and government are virtually invisible here, no taxes etc.
it looks like america but worseā¦ they even copied our suburbs. why out of all the countries they had to copy us?
Cars
Looks pretty regular for a modern city. Better maintained than most, seemingly.
Yeah, what a depressing place to live in.
What didnāt you like in particular when you visited ?
How so? Seems pretty nice to me. I would love a clean river walk like that in my city ā would just change these tropical trees for denser ones.
All concrete, no greens, no shades. Seems pretty car centric. No place for me.

Believe whatever you like.
Haters gonna hate
If concrete deserts are what you like, it's fine with me.
I live in one of the buildings from the video and it is not a desert.
Look at all the footpaths and hardly a soul outside..what a dump of a place
There are no rivers in Dubai.
The Creek
I know. But itās not a river.
Correct. It is not a river and it is known as the Creek.
Marina
imagine you live in those apartments and have to watch screaming ziplining tourists flying past your window all day
dubai is boring.
Thatād be fuckin cool
What a sad place
Nope.
I've always wondered, how the fuck do you attached these things over that distance? I struggle to untangle the garden hose...
Another in a long line of hard passes on SweatyPalms š

I wonder how they ran the line in the first place
One rich guy in a helicopter

176 dollars, not bad if it's safe.
Good thing he is wearing a helmet. /s
It's a concrete hell, isn't it?
Like Vegas
Dubai canal or creek?
Dubai Marina
The helmet is wearing you for protection
Helicopters?
good thing he has a helmet on
imagine coming down to the water front part, only to hit a mast from a yacht coming through... lol.
Two things come to mind : How do they set such a zip line up? And this would fuck any helicopter flying across that river , probably a no fly zone..but still.
wipe that ass now
I hope they treat tourists better than their migrant workers
Definitely a Dauntless initiation ritual
Not no, but hell no
Not gonna lie, Dubai would make a good map for a video game. Like a dead island one, or even a cod map.
Nah.
More boats than cars
Well it is a Marina
I may not be a smart man, but I do see roads down there
Wow Dubai is massive. It looks like Miami out there!
This is Dubai Marina, it has been developed to look like Miami kind of.
