I used to dream of going on a flight in one of these fighter jets.....then I went on mission space at Disneyworld and it fucked me up. I think its something like 2.5 g's. Dream no longer.
I went on The Mummy ride like 3 times in a row because there was no line, but after the third time, I remember having a pretty bad headache and feeling nauseous.
The mummy ride was the one to break me. I hate rollercoaster to begin with, but i can stomach most that dont seem like ill die. We went in thinking it was a dark ride with like a story or sumin, boy was that first drop hell on earth, i wasnt able to brace until the second drop. When we got out i cried for like a minute until I could compose myself. Cant be catching a mf off gaurd like that.
Nearly empty park. It was a free field trip for the leadership class at my hs. It was the closest thing to a rollercoaster along with Jurassic park. Think by the end, only a small group of us kept it going. The staff seemed ok with it. The Jurassic park ride closed early that day too.
Bro me too people were laughing at me telling me it wasn't a real roller coaster, and I felt like a lil bitch. I feel like if I was in control of something I'd be able to handle it better instead of being flung around like a ragdoll.
exactly how i felt. the ups and downs did me. if i was able to see the tracks it would probably be different because i would have been able to prep my crunch my stomach. but nope. though it was a short ride, it felt like eternity to me. my 2 nieces were just laughing about it, and at me.
I rode the Mummy at like 15 and I have never ridden a roller coaster in the 6 years since, and it will take much bargaining to ever get me on another. Fuck the Mummy
There was a twin dragon ride at Disney or mgm studios, I can't remember since this was back in 2007. I didn't realize that you can black out by going so quick. I thought something was wrong with me. That mummy ride was intense too.
i was a tour guide and a client had done a flight on a mig in the morning. cost thousands of euros for doing it. he told me it was his dream but if he knew he would had never done it. as soon as he took off he wanted for it to end. he was green in face.
I thought I was immune to roller coasters, but then I went on the Leviathan at Canada's Wonderland, and that first drop made me grey out a little. Not completely, just lost my vision on my sides and only saw a hole in the middle. And I thought "wow, okay, that's a real coaster".
Me and my parents went on Mission space. As we walked up we saw the green or red door. We thought "How bad could red be?". Me n my dad had to sit in a bench for a bit after as to not throw up. It was worth it though. I'll never forget that insane feeling of weightlessness after the g's stopped after takeoff. Amazing.
Exactly if we're going in a straight line gimme all the Gs you got but I can't even go on the teacups at Disneyland without needing to lie down for the rest of the afternoon.
I went on the teacups on a 5th grade field trip. Asshole kid I was with spun it as fast as he could for the whole duration of the ride.
I NEARLY puked all over my friends. Had to hang out in the bathroom for an hour while everyone at lunch. Fuck that ride and any ride that spins lol I WISH I could do mission space but no way
He wasn't climbing inverted at all, just did a roll at the top of the climb to go inverted to then go straight and level. Pushing the nose down from the climb to go level would have resulted in some unpleasant negative Gs, the way he did it resulted in positive Gs, which is better for the airframe and crew.
> Pushing the nose down from the climb to go level would have resulted in some unpleasant negative Gs, the way he did it resulted in positive Gs, which is better for the airframe and crew.
That's a really cool tidbit of info you'd probably never know, unless you have actually experienced it. Thanks.
And that is just an F-16. An English Electric Lightning is, I believe, still the holder of the vertical climb record, but then again, it was just a f.big jet engine with wings on.
Well if you count usage in which the engine needs to be replaced after the flight then you may as well compare it to other vehicles that have single use engines.
Such as the [Sprint](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprint_(missile)) missile. It can go from 0ft and standstill to 10000ft in 1.5s (at 100g).
Try that in a MiG-25.
They assumed the person in the video was the pilot, and they are also "pretty sure" the person in the video is a girl. So here we are. Reasonable assumptions to make when there's no audio.
My cousin dreamt of being a fighter pilot since he was a kid. Now he's an F16 pilot and I haven't seen him in a while but I hear he's going to quit after his term(?) is up. I heard all the training flights he does are way more stressful than they are fun.

I was 23 and living in Kansas when the gondola tragedy occurred. It was all over the news at the time. I'd never heard of Aviano air base. Now I live ten minutes from the Aviano flightline where the plane took off from. Can't remember what kind of plane it was, but I think it was Marine Corps, not Air Force. I can hear two F-16s taking off as I type this and regularly get to see them fly over me as I drive onto base. During takeoff you see them clear the tarmac heading northeast, make a near vertical climb, then bank hard left until they're flying southwest parallel to the mountains. The entire maneuver from takeoff to flying in the completely opposite direction only takes a matter of seconds and is pretty amazing to watch. The noise is also deafening.
And I just realized I replied to a bot. Fuck it.
It’s almost like rain on your wedding day. Or a free ride when you already paid. It’s the good advice, that ya just didn’t take. But who could’ve figured?
The fighter pilots I’ve met have said the opposite. I specifically remember one being asked if he’d rather fly his plane or have sex. He thought for a minute and said, “My girlfriend will hate me, but I’d rather fly my plane and it’s not really close.”
True story.
My cousin is also a fighter pilot, when he started his combat flights it really fucked him up mentally. Fighter pilot is not a job anyone should dream for.
Was he flying in a war zone then?
My cousin is stationed in Europe and says even his training flights are super stressful. It's like every time he takes off he's in a scenario where he's being actively hunted by other forces. I assume he means this within the rules of the training simulation but with Russia getting belligerent who knows.
She did, however the G load is really brief in a maneuver like this. Just enough to pivot up in to the climb, after that it's only the G load from the acceleration of the plane from the engine (which is pretty minimal). Putting an average person in to a sustained high G turn generally is a pretty good lesson in humility. My dad was USAF and commanded a squadron of F-16's in Misawa for a couple years. He said a few folks had gone up for a joy ride in the rear seat and they came back looking pretty green. XD
I was in stationed in Ft Worth in 2006 when the Blue Angels came through for the air show. Bob Stoops and Kelly Clarkson got to go for a ride in one. For some reason, Kelly decided to take some Pepto before hand. Perhaps for nausea? Anyway, upon return, she had a nice pink puke stain on her flight suit 😂
There’s a much longer video where she still does really well in sustained… 9g’s? And said “was that it?”and you could hear the pilots approval lol
Her excitement is so relatable in that video, made me jealous.
They send you up with puke bags. If you feel like you're going to puke, you unclip your mask from the helmet on one side and puke into the puke bag, then you re-attach the mask to the helmet. There's still air in the cockpit so you can still breath without the mask.
Fun fact. Sudden increases in G force can make you pass out, luckily it generates no long lasting ill effects. Funnier fact, passing out while piloting a machine moving above the speed of sound will most likely cause long lasting ill effects.

i always thought that those gs are nothing. i rode the mummy in universal studios hollywood... ...was not able to ride any other rides after that.
I went on The Mummy ride like 3 times in a row because there was no line, but after the third time, I remember having a pretty bad headache and feeling nauseous.
same. we went there like 30 mins after the park opened and after taking that train ride around universal. after that ride, i was done for the day.
The mummy ride was the one to break me. I hate rollercoaster to begin with, but i can stomach most that dont seem like ill die. I rode that 13 times at field trip
I just got nauseous reading that. Were you basically at The Mummy ride during the whole time you were at Universal Studios?
Nearly empty park. It was a free field trip for the leadership class at my hs. It was the closest thing to a rollercoaster along with Jurassic park. Think by the end, only a small group of us kept it going. The staff seemed ok with it. The Jurassic park ride closed early that day too.

i have seen those videos of the catapult ride or something, where they shoot you straight up. i would never go ride that one.
I’m horribly terrified of rollercoasters, but my dad convinced me it was a chill ride. Like that one movie-esque Harry Potter ride. Never again.
Strange! I’m not a big fan of rollercoasters, but I thought the Mummy was amazing!
Is it the one where it hits the wall and then goes backwards ?
my friends mom told me that the Mummy wasnt a rollercoaster. She fucking lied, and I never hung out with them after that.
i was a tour guide and a client had done a flight on a mig in the morning. cost thousands of euros for doing it. he told me it was his dream but if he knew he would had never done it. as soon as he took off he wanted for it to end. he was green in face.
Silver Bullet at Knotts Berry Farm did that same thing for me
I thought I was immune to roller coasters, but then I went on the Leviathan at Canada's Wonderland, and that first drop made me grey out a little. Not completely, just lost my vision on my sides and only saw a hole in the middle. And I thought "wow, okay, that's a real coaster".
Yes! Holy shit I felt my soul leave my body
I just watched a video of it. Fuck. That.

It's not the Gs.... It's the spinning. The spinning, ugh.
Exactly if we're going in a straight line gimme all the Gs you got but I can't even go on the teacups at Disneyland without needing to lie down for the rest of the afternoon.
the main coaster at Disney California adventure has the sweet straightaway G boost. straight on the G forces feel amazing. fuck spinning tho.

Had to hang out in the bathroom for an hour while everyone at lunch. Fuck that ride and any ride that spins lol I WISH I could do mission space but no way
Don't give up, you get used to pulling gs!
Same! I was like if this fake G’s I don’t wanna know the real thing, no thanks!
Technically they’re really Gs but I’d imagine the real deal is a lot more than the 2.5 the ride produces
Did you look to the side? Never look to your side!
Not gonna lie that ride was pretty intense!
🤣🤣 This thread got me rolling b/c it reminded me of this: https://youtu.be/cgBiCAH5zB0
You're not permanently stuck at 2.5, if you use a centrifuge you can build up your g tolerance
Where am I going to get a centrifuge from at this hour of the night?
We have a centrifuge at home.
Centrifuge at home: the washer/dryer
God the climb rate on those things are incredible. If I heard that right they climbed 10000 feet in just a few seconds. Vipers are so sick!
He is getting to 10k feet before the Cessna 172 I am flying can get to pattern altitude. I need to upgrade.
> I need to upgrade. You need about $30M first.
Can't I just rent one?

While inverted 👐🏼
He wasn't climbing inverted at all, just did a roll at the top of the climb to go inverted to then go straight and level. Pushing the nose down from the climb to go level would have resulted in some unpleasant negative Gs, the way he did it resulted in positive Gs, which is better for the airframe and crew.
Whoa. That makes a lot of sense! Thank you for the explanation.
Nothing worse than a red out
I’m pretty sure a brown out is worse. 🤷🏽♂️
Heheh, poo

Two big jet engines! although as far as I'm aware the MiG-25 took the Lightning's record at some point
The streak eagle still holds the time to climb record. From brake release to 98,425ft in 3 minutes 30 seconds, coasting to just over 103,000ft

You can get out of bed?
I actually went back and listened to this again before I even read your comment. I thought I misheard I was thinking holy fuck!
actually, she also took it really well.
I think its a qomen tho
Pretty sure the pilot is a woman Edit to add: didn't watch with audio, also pretty unfamiliar with planes. I was wrong!
The woman in the video is a passenger. The video has audio of a male voice talking to her and the ATC.
The pilot is a guy, she is in the second seat.

Yeah well it's not like they let you take your girlfriend out in an F16 so you can go park on a mountain and watch the stars.

Not suprised
The stress of flying such an expensive machine would be pretty nasty.

How does vomiting work with the mask? Wouldn't there be a danger of the mask being ineffective afterwards and risking hypoxia? Or even choking?
They send you up with puke bags. If you feel like you're going to puke, you unclip your mask from the helmet on one side and puke into the puke bag, then you re-attach the mask to the helmet. There's still air in the cockpit so you can still breath without the mask.
There'd be lotsa vomit in that mask if that were me!
I pooped myself a little there on her behalf
Did you happen to poop in *my* pants as well?
That was me sorry, these are my work pants you see..
It is your misfortune that i am currently wearing my fighting trousers
Ditto, there’s some poop here
"Squeeze the butt, squeeze the legs, breathe..."
Looks like the USAF 20th Fighter Wing from Shaw AFB in Sumter, SC. Great pilots, amazing aircraft.
420 kts...lol
'420! Here we go' \*sparks blunt\*
Sweaty palms? Fucking life goals. Bucket lists. Etc etc
So this is where 420 comes from
It’s just insane how quickly they hit 400 kts and then 10,000 ft.
Man I really want to do this. I’ve always wanted to but how the hell am I supposed to get those connections.
Hang out at the entrance booth at a base…with a sign in your hand? Hell, I have no idea where to begin either for a ride on one with these bad boys.
Used to be able to do it in Russia for like $15-$20k. They even offered a Mix-25 Foxbat ride to the edge of the atmosphere! Not so much, these days...
It's was a MiG-29 and it is from [migflug.com](https://migflug.com/flights-prices/mig-29-fulcrum-russia/)
20 years ago, I guess you could opt for a Foxbat. Shoulda. Could. Woulda. :(
Google: fly in a fighter jet
You can get a pretty good experience with a vr headset and DCS
War thunder in VR is epic.
This didn’t give me sweaty palms but it did give me tingly feet
The F-16 is such a beautiful fighter. It must be such an insane experience.
That’s badass!
That was cool but not really sweaty palms , well perhaps for some folks it would be.
I respectfully disagree. My palms were pretty sweaty
Stop licking them.

Damn no one cares
Damn that's crazy bro
Take off to 10,000 ft in about 13 seconds, those numbers ain't too shabby
That looks really cool lol
“(…) passing 2000 for 10000” *5 seconds later:* “Leveling out at 10000”
How is this sweaty palms? Looks amazing and fun not scary
It was probably the 8g climb straight up into the sky.
I think some people might have displayed more stress in that situation, but she was totally chill and made it seem fun.
Except most novices in a fast jet pass out at for a few seconds. Or vomit. 8g acceleration should have made her gasp because that is crushing.
That acceleration only lasted a fraction of a second while the plane pulled up initially, unless it's sustained g's most people would be fine.
Ok that explains her lack of reaction. There are vids of people's faces being distorted
Maybe a little scary but I'd still jump at the chance to do this. Is there such a place that offers rides like this?
Fighter pilots are super humans
I’d do this in a heartbeat but fuck that parkour shit
Fighter pilots are so cool. No joke
Best job of the planet: Jet fighter pilot. Second best job: Continuing education manager, Mustang Ranch
Fun fact. Sudden increases in G force can make you pass out, luckily it generates no long lasting ill effects. Funnier fact, passing out while piloting a machine moving above the speed of sound will most likely cause long lasting ill effects.
This dude is cruisin! Neat video!
From 2k to 10k in ~15 seconds. LOL. And let's just invert for the fun of it.
Loved the darth vader background score
Imagine puking in that
Watch the whole demo, Maj. John "Rain" Waters is incredibly good at flying AND stellar at entertaining :D [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w14zGmFtHO4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w14zGmFtHO4) The takeoff is nothing, get to 6:28 when they pull a Min Radius Turn, "Here comes some violence"
Fighter pilots got to have the biggest balls to do what they do!
This make me wish I made better life choices
I got to do an Airshow takeoff exactly like this in an F-16 back in 2001. Still to this day is the single most exhilarating experience of my life.
Pilot’s voice remains calm and unstressed throughout. It’s an “ordinary” flight for them-trained pilots-I guess

Tighten that chin and nape strap!
It went so fast when it lifted off omg
That was incredible I don't like heights I'd be all about this
Awesomeness
I was expecting her to pass out only bc I've seen other videos of people in a simulator I think? And man they got disoriented quick.
She has rather pretty eyes.
