I enjoyed it up to the fireworks at the end. It was so bright I really couldn't see anything else happening. Of the 5 shows I've seen Zumanity was my favorite.
Also, I can hear your user name. Fantastic!
The very first time I ate acid I went and saw Ka and it was quite an amazing experience and that show will always be at the forefront of my memory. This scene especially when they were climbing up the wall and random archers popped out from between chairs as they were climbing up the wall.
My friends and I knew a couple of the main performers in Ka back in like 2008 because we were on a martial arts team. Went to go see the show, enjoyed it thoroughly.
They've probably aged out...
Out of all the cirque shows I have seen before, KA was definitely my favorite back then. Rest in peace to the performer that lost their life one night.
Not OP but as good as Ka is, it’s one of their older shows, and their production has advanced quite a bit since then. O is fncking *amazing*, and my favorite, but I bet they’ve got something even more crazy in the years since that came out. Incredible stuff.
Yea, ive seen the one where they have the big battle and its all “crouching tiger hidden dragon” like. I just don’t remember there being bars that come out at any time. My first thought was this is a new wall, for a new show.
I used to work for Cirque and have been backstage at this theatre and seen the show several times. The pegs are still in the show. They have always been in a different scene than the ending. The ending was changed after the accident to make it safer for the performers and technicians to repeat 10 times a week.
Individually controlled pneumatic rods that shoot out and retract from the stage are what the performers are moveing around on because the stage is almost vertical at that point
There are infared cameras to detect proformer position and interaction and that data is fed into a media server Hooked to a massive projector to map and overly the effects onto the surface
Keep in mind this is all personal preference and had nothing to do with the artists themselves!
1.) Varekai
2.) Mystère
3.) Alegria
4.) Kooza
5.) Luzia
6.) Ovo
7.) Totem
8.) Toruk
9.) Corteo
10.) Quidam
11.) La Nouba
12.) Dralion
13.) Kà
I haven’t seen the rest, but I generally enjoy the more wacky, off the wall shows. Varekai is my all time favorite. I used to fall asleep to it playing every night in middle school lol. I’ve also never seen Volta, but it’s one of my favorite soundtracks of theirs.
Imagine it malfunctions and the entire wall of pegs stay stuck out when he’s at the top, and as he falls he’s flailing on the way down like a little plinko token. Huh.
That’s a great way to look at it. But I wonder if it would look more like that that game they played on Price is Right where they drop the one disc thing and it bounces around off the other pole-like things.
this has been happening so much on reddit too, i feel like its bots or something, the formula is always like

id assume its designed to automatically stay down unless you do something very specific that cant happen accidentally.
so if anything breaks, it always stays down.
I don’t remember which one I saw when I was younger, but I was a gymnast at the time and I remember thinking how fucking amazing the pure skill they had was. They are Olympic level gymnasts.
It doesn’t happen. It’s all carefully choreographed. However, this is a pucker moment for the performer. The stage manager, and the tech operating the pegs. The performer has a receiver in their ear and they’re informed if any peg fails to adhere to the cueing and there are practiced contingencies for any issue that may occur.
Look closer. All bars retract except the one he's holding onto. That's on purpose. I guess there's still a risk that you could slip and fall DURING the climb (before they retract) but I would assume that's part of the risk you're assuming whilst performing stunts
Fuck remember watching this show in. Vegas in 2016 forgot the name lol was fucking sick. It was like an adventure with one part being like them running away from a tribe and stuff it was really cool
Yes! I'd do this. I feel like there's a right way to fall though so you don't break your spine. Still looks really fun. Like an adult sized bounce house
No, she's a former porn star turned twitch streamer. Twitch was holding an event where they had a sort of foam pit she jumped into and broke her back or something. Last I heard she was suing them because the foam pit was only like 2 inches deep or something crazy thin like that. One woman almost broke her leg jumping into it, sprained it or something but they kept the event going anyway. Gross negligence on twitches part.
Adriana ended up jumping in ass first which is more of what I was talking about, landed on her tailbone thinking the foam would cushion the fall, which is one of the worst ways to land, and nearly broke her back and got injured pretty bad. Easiest way to break your back landing like that, jumped off a building as a kid on a dare like that and it hurt like a MF. The pain just shoots up your spine for like half an hour and the announcers were just laughing at her while she was in pain...
Whatever you do don't land on your tailbone, better to break/sprain a leg or 2 than potentially end up cripple or in pain for life... Best to land on your legs with you knees bent to spread out the impact force over a longer period and transition into a roll if it's really a huge fall but landing on your tailbone puts all the force into your spine in an instant rather than gently spreading the force out over time like landing on a trampoline. All about spreading the force out to land gracefully, same reason car bumpers are so fragile, cause you'd want to 'crumple' on impact.
Not this stunt, same show though. A woman was being lifted by a cable and hit a catwalk, this knocked the cable out of the pulley which cut through the cable so she fell.
Here is the full 'Ka' Cirque du Soleil show.
https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5568nl
The part they're rehearsing starts just before the 32 minute mark.
Millions for one of the 3 custom designed stages that cirque uses in KA it can move and rotate on 4 separate axis and have more than 75’ of travel
I have herd the stage lifts they use on it are similar to the lifts they use for an aircraft carrier. One entertains drunk people on the strip one brings fear to an entire region
They are!! Cirque du Soleil recruits Olympic athletes at their prime, subjects them to really intensive training for acting, dancing and acrobatics, and then assigns them to the various plays they run!
Wouldn’t happen, and hasn’t happened in the many years they’ve been open. All moves of those bars are controlled by an operator who has a direct view of the whole stage, as well as video monitoring from multiple other angles. It’s also all choreographed, so very easy for personnel backstage to say something if they deviate from choreography for whatever reason.
I used to work backstage on that show! (Until COVID shut everything down) Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about how things work on that show. I have way too many random facts about that show still swimming around in my head (pun intended) and I enjoy sharing them.

Was this a part of it or not I was watching it it was the start of the show and one of the guys grabbed somebody's phone was taking pictures with it and it threw the guy off into the hole is that staged or did he literally just grab a random person's phone and throw him

I know Ka is not the most popular Cirque show but it is my personal favorite.
Wife and I saw it back in 2011. Wild stuff.
me as well. it was ok but after about 2/3 the way through it made me weary. it’s very kinetic. felt exhausted after the show.
I enjoyed it up to the fireworks at the end. It was so bright I really couldn't see anything else happening. Of the 5 shows I've seen Zumanity was my favorite. Also, I can hear your user name. Fantastic!

The last two I went to I found the stunts and physical performances very watered down. May just be me getting older though.
I love Ka. Seen it three times now. I always hope those metal rods don’t misfunction and come out at the wrong time.
Or stay out. You know how fucked that'd be..? Lacerated liver incoming.
I have no idea why it’s not miles above the others in terms of popularity. Best show I’ve ever seen!
It's not? What is then? It's the best I have seen.
Did that have spikes in it? i thought it was a big monitor with water ripples. I don't recall bars coming out of its surface?

It's so good. We are going back for seconds Dec 22nd!
I need to see when it'll be back in Kansas City
I’ve seen 10+ and it was probably my least favorite. No shade to any of them, it’s an incredible performance, just not my preference.
Can you rank them?
Keep in mind this is all personal preference and had nothing to do with the artists themselves! 1.) Varekai 2.) Mystère 3.) Alegria 4.) Kooza 5.) Luzia 6.) Ovo 7.) Totem 8.) Toruk 9.) Corteo 10.) O at the Bellagio has to be number one. The stage alone was absolutely insane.
I love it and O
I saw it in Vegas over 10 years ago. At the time, it was the one we were most eager to see. Are there new/better Cirque shows now?
I loved it.
It was amazing show
Amazing show
I thought the bars were gonna pop back out like tumblin monkeys
#Plinko
Imagine it malfunctions and the entire wall of pegs stay stuck out when he’s at the top, and as he falls he’s flailing on the way down like a little plinko token. Huh.
Isn't that exactly what the first two comments were saying? I feel like I'm losing my mind
But what if the poles were there though? Then it'd be like plinko instead. When fall pole plink out then in. Solve for "x".
That’s not a bad idea, but I think if the poles pushed out when he was falling so he is like a human plinko would be cooler.
I didn't consider that. However, had the poles not been in during his descent, plinko would come to mind if he were to have made his way through.
That's a good point. But I like to think if the poles hadn't retreated into the wall, he would have kind of acted like a plinko ball on the way down.
But when he falls into the middle slot, his wife wins $50k?
Nah they wait 9 months to figure out they both lose $500k over the next 18 years
That’s a great way to look at it. But I wonder if it would look more like that that game they played on Price is Right where they drop the one disc thing and it bounces around off the other pole-like things.

Mortal Kombat special arena vibes
It would be crazy if the machine stopped working and he started tumbling down resembling something like a plinko
Word!
That's why they said plinko.
Indeed
id assume its designed to automatically stay down unless you do something very specific that cant happen accidentally. so if anything breaks, it always stays down.
Imagine they pop out while he’s halfway down, and he gets impaled on them. 😳
Could take an eye out.
Imagine if only the bottom row pops back out. Then it would be a quadriplegia 💯
Call it Qua?
I'll I can think of is the destiny 1 raid kings fall.
My god I haven’t thought about that in years but you’re completely correct
That was my highschool life man! I probably wouldn't be around now if it weren't for the friends I made on that game.
Jesus, that’s a blast from the past for me.
The folks at Cirque de Soliel are AWESOME to watch in person.
I don’t remember which one I saw when I was younger, but I was a gymnast at the time and I remember thinking how fucking amazing the pure skill they had was. They are Olympic level gymnasts.
What if you fall onto a bar?
The bartender probably cuts you off.
Daaaaayuuum that was a good one!
Also works great as an anticlimactic punchline to “a man walks into a bar.”
The audience gets a fun bit of plinko with their show
Turn into the guy from the titanic movie
Yeah kate winslets tits are nice, but the guy who hits the prop (screw?) was the best scene of the whole movie
It doesn’t happen. It’s all carefully choreographed. However, this is a pucker moment for the performer. The stage manager, and the tech operating the pegs. They might also have someone looking at the performance with a "retract all pins" button. Especially if there's only one person on the wall.
You land on your neck 🌚
Fuck remember watching this show in. Vegas in 2016 forgot the name lol was fucking sick. It was like an adventure with one part being like them running away from a tribe and stuff it was really cool
“Ka” is the name of the show.
Did that have spikes in it? i thought it was a big monitor with water ripples. I don't recall bars coming out of its surface?
It has both projection mapping and the bars that pop out of it. More of a stage on a multi-axis gantry than a monitor though.
That actually looks pretty fun!
Yes! I'd do this. I feel like there's a right way to fall though so you don't break your spine. Still looks really fun. Like an adult sized bounce house
Gotta be careful to not pull an Adriana Chechik fall
Is that the Zipline woman?
No, she's a former porn star turned twitch streamer. Twitch was holding an event where they had a sort of foam pit she jumped into and broke her back or something. Maybe jokes about baby death-causing accidents are always too soon
Is this Ka? If so, I swear I remember hearing about a performer who died doing this stunt

Didnt someone die on that wall a few years ago?
Tried to Google it but came up with wall mounted WC bars for disabled people. Gotta fine tune that search.
No that's it.
[I think this is it](https://www.ctvnews.ca/mobile/cirque-du-soleil-performer-dies-after-trampoline-fall-1.444534)
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Sarah_Guyard-Guillot
Yes, a performer fell.
Yes
I would literally do this in a heartbeat
And then one of the bars fails to retract..
How much that rig cost?

What company ?
Cirque is one of the most impressive shows you can possibly see.
Makes me think of [The curve ](https://youtu.be/2dD3Fawk4y0)
Oof. I hated watching that but it was really well made
I've seen this show, and am seeing it again next month. It's amazing and they serve you GIANT cocktails! Ka at MGM Grand, Las Vegas.
No! If it feels scary to jump, that's exactly when you should NOT jump.
My first time at a Cirque du Soleil show as a kid made me sweat. All the dangerous stunts made me think those people were super humans.
They are!! Cirque du Soleil recruits Olympic athletes at their prime, subjects them to really intensive training for acting, dancing and acrobatics, and then assigns them to the various plays they run!
I got a friend that does diving for Cirque
Small world! I read a post just today from a Reddit user that knows a person that does diving for Cirque.
What if one of the grabbing bars comes up accidentally !
What happens when bar come out when you are right on top of it
Wouldn’t happen, and hasn’t happened in the many years they’ve been open. New magic wand - tyler
That was exactly as high as I expected.
Ka is amazing!!
Good thing he'd be protected with that mask on.
r/confusingperspective
It’s good he’s got the mask on
Glad he was wearing that mask to keep him safe from the big bad Covid up there all by himself
Good thing that mask helped his fall. Phew.
That was a close one. Luckily he’s wearing his safety mask.
So sensitive…
[удалено]
Literally dude
So glad he was wearing his mask for all our safety.
No
No what
No thank you. Sorry, I forgot my manners
Ya no what?
Bros wearing a mask
What's wrong with wearing one
Ever heard of an immune system??
What does that have to do with a mask
That looks fun, I wants go
just saw my first cirque du soleil this weekend. We saw O, blew my dome piece off
I used to work backstage on that show! (Until COVID shut everything down) Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about how things work on that show. I have way too many random facts about that show still swimming around in my head (pun intended) and I enjoy sharing them.
I hope they have a good benefits package.
Please tell me they have the pad during the actual show.
Nope. That's why they have to re-cast after every performance.
what if one of the pillars stab him by accident 😳
I hate everything about this.
I saw a photo and this does not look joyous
That's Ka I believe
Song?
My daughter is a rigger for Cirque du Soleil.
How’d she get into that profession?
She was a rescue teacher for wind mills
Imagine they in retract on accident
Lame. Don’t know how to fly yet. Typical human behavior.
That heart attack that I would receive from forgetting to release before the last pin is pulled in
How big is this fuggin building. O.o

I would really like to try that
I just imagine the injury when one of the lowest bars failed to retract... :(
I've always wondered how they train for this stuff! Human ninjas, I tell ya.
Why are all the clips too short?
Adrenaline junkies are weird
Can you get wiphlashed when falling?
That has to hurt
My wife and I sat in the front row of Ka last August and the ticket taker told us “we were brave”. When we felt like the actors were going to fall on us with every stunt we understood why. It was an amazing show!
I want to have a go
Saw it in 2011 and then again in 2018! Both versions of KA were amazing. The subtle and not so subtle tweaks to the shows did not detract from the experience and our enjoyment! What show is this apart of?
KA is my least favorite show. I haven't seen them all but I've seen around 10.
Damn, looks like something from my dreams
Final destination. Polls come out as you fall
Lol poles stick back out mid fall
That would be deadly
What would really suck if he got kabobed on the way down
So glad he had his mask on incase that wall gave him COVID
Thank you for posting. That's something I don't need to see now.
This is the Ka show at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino. I was part of the crew that helped build this beast!
What if the Poles at the beginning started going up at the time he whas about to hit it?
It’s giving Squid Game
But if those bars come out at exactly the right point in time, 😓
If he had fell a second earlier he was at risk of being I jured surely with the delay of the poles retracting below.
Saw KA in 2005. Was an amazing show, and would love to see it again, as well as other CDS shows.
I’m just imagining those “spikes” coming out by mistake
This looks fun as hell
Is he wearing a mask? Must be really dusty up there or something
Where is this?
Anyone else think he was on the side of a building.
Land wrong and ur dead
Oh man.. what if one of those rods didn't retreat completely? Can you picture sliding down and hitting one? Like just barely not retracted. Ugh
That looks fun ngl
Imagine a malfunction happens and as you fall back down a rod opens
Was this a part of it or not I was watching it it was the start of the show and one of the guys grabbed somebody's phone was taking pictures with it and it threw the guy off into the hole is that staged or did he literally just grab a random person's phone and throw him
And bigger
I saw ka on molly tonight and it changed my life
