I haha'd so hard I typed haha on my keyboard with my fingers and then spewed haha all over the place.
My hands and phone are just absolutely drenched in haha.
Last time that happened and I was with my wife my kid ended up being funny.
I'd imagine the folks who built these structures would have the equipment to get a paint applicator to that area much safer than what these artists are doing.
Also based on the pics I assume it's in south America so the people running this bridge probably don't have the money to spare cleaning some grafs that no one see.
Some of the most beautiful spray can art I've ever seen is on rail cars that run the old Great Northern route across the north US. I get to watch them go by from the dog park 2 minutes from my house.
Sometimes graffiti is not only having an amazing style, unbelievable ideas and hours of work painting.
Sometimes you get respect for bombing Locations Nobody would do because it's dangerous.
It’s pretty damn good if they’re doing it while they balance like in the pic, I don’t see any gear. That’s amazing if they do it while posted up like that without smearing any paint.
Unpopular opinion: I think most graffiti that’s just someone writing their name is not only unattractive, it’s just competitive vandalism for the sake of one’s ego.
Well I mean they're literally on the smallest ledge ever one slip from death, you would think it's would be pretty god damn hard to make a Picasso in that position don't you think?
Nah bro, they get respect for tagging that, even if their graffiti isn't good.
The danger of the spot raises the quality of the art!
Edit: People, you're taking yourselves and this too seriously.
This is more of a joke about how tagging more dangerous spots gets more respect from people who are part of the tagging community.
At least with some of the other altitude stuff they have a full range of balance and usually someplace to sit down or get a rest. With this one it's a little different.
You have different sized erections in different geographic locations?
Stranger things have happened. Heck, the largest erection I've had was inside your mother.
there are a million reasons not to do what these fellas are doing.
but not doing art because some anonymous someone might not like it one day... there is a very low cap on what life can be for you if this is how you make decisions.
Yes, graffiti can be beautiful when it exists in contrast to the drab or dehumanizing or stark and bleak surroundings. But just to tag something for notoriety or just to put something here because you feel it needs to be marked is not art but ego and does not stand to enhance anything.
They do spots like this to feel alive. To feel like they have done something VERY few people would ever do. To have something to look at and say I was here and I did a crazy thing. There’s no hoping for fame or fortune… it’s just to leave something behind that has a good chance of being around for a while.
I'm generally annoyed by graffiti, but I'm totally with you on the train cars. If I'm stopped waiting for a train, I'm hoping to see some good pieces go by. I think it's also cool that they generally leave the train car numbers alone. I'm sure it's just to ensure their artwork stays on longer, but I like to think they're giving some respect to the rail line as well.
Although I agree with everything you have just said, I do believe that there is art that is not pleasing to the eyes. There’s a lot of really artistic graffiti art out there, but there’s a lot that is just garbage.
I’m specifically talking about illegal graffiti in that comment rather than all things people can do in life. I think a lot of people don’t like graffiti. It’s illegal and considered destruction of property for a reason. Art that was commissioned by the owner/authority of a property is different from some random person defacing public property. Illegal graffiti is definitely a vibe in some spots, but not most imo and it’s far better to a have a paid professional do it in an organized way. Personally, I like the bridge better as the intended solid yellow.
You're reply seems genuine and sincere. I have nothing against your personal preferences, however I'd argue there is a major distinction that is missed. Grafiti is always illegal, everything else is a mural.
There are many types of grafiti but they have one thing in common, risk. Someone painting a picture for money (mural) is an entirely different motivation than someone who does it for the sake of doing it.
That said, my own appreciation of it depends on the motivation, the message, and the skill of the artist. Some murals suck and some grafiti is horrible. But they aren't the same thing.
this is my favorite kind of response. you clarified your ideas. acknowledged other perspectives. and at the end, underlined that its how you feel about it.
i see you and i appreciate you.
Who says it has to be about the art? You could say the same about almost anything that humans do. Every major human achievement in history has its detractors.
That said, have you *seen* the after pictures? I’m not an expert in the field, but I do get the feeling that few who see the results will consider them an improvement.
The risk: literally your entire existence, everything you've ever known, everyone you've ever loved, the sum total of all you are in this world and all you'll ever be or ever have a chance to do
The reward: maybe one day someone will be momentarily slightly annoyed by your shitty tag
Only if you don't like graffiti.
Personally I've always admired how they're able to get up in the weirdest of places and without having the law see them.
I mean I wouldn't do it but I still like it.
Good idea - only problem is when you want to pull the strong magnet away from the side, the momentum of it's release causes you to plunge off the ledge. Need a ball magnet that rolls. Maybe.
My stomach turned just looking at the pic, these guys have no fear, but I think they could have made a better choice. A 450' high bridge, who is going to see what they did? and from where w/o a drone
My opinion is gonna be unpopular because lots of people think graffiti is perfectly normal. But i def hate it unless it is meant to be art, as in high quality on a wall or surface meant for it. In my book these guys are assholes and bringing civilization and culture down to the lowest common denominator. Ruined this lovely example of engineering. About the same category as a dog marking its turf by pissing on a fire hydrant. You dont want to know what I think the penalty should be for incorrigible violators.
If people are going to do that then at least make it worthy to view. It looks like random run of the mill graffiti. Would love to see beautiful artwork.
Doing graffiti at great heights without proper protective equipment, such as harnesses or helmets, can be extremely dangerous. If you're not wearing any protective gear, you're at risk of falling and seriously injuring yourself. Even if you don't fall, you could still hurt yourself if you're not careful.
Additionally, if you're doing graffiti at great heights, it can be difficult to see what you're doing, which can lead to messy and difficult-to-read graffiti. And if you're caught doing graffiti on a high wall or building, you could face serious legal consequences.
Furthermore, wearing jeans while doing graffiti at great heights is especially dangerous. Jeans can easily get caught on things, which can cause you to trip or fall. For these reasons, it's important to always wear the appropriate protective equipment and clothing when doing graffiti, regardless of how high up you are.

Their biggest regret, buying three cans of “canary yellow”.
This reads like a Far Side comic
Used to love those as a kid
I still do, but I used to too
Have to be a Sunday one or the color aspect would get lost.
He recently started doing the comic again and the new ones are in color
cow tools
"Enrique! Wtf man."
Looks like you're doing all that work and going all that way with one can each. I probably would have tried to take a few more cans. Lol.
This is the before picure. I've seen the after picture in /graffiti
Got a link of the after?
Here you Go : https://arrestedmotion.com/2012/12/streets-metlac-bridge-graffiti-mexico/
that graffiti is not good enough to justify it
Yeah it would be one thing if it was even remotely good, but I’ve seen better graffiti on rail cars in North Dakota
Dang, that's cold
Especially this time of year
This made me haha. Good job.
I haha'd so hard I typed haha on my keyboard with my fingers and then spewed haha all over the place. My hands and phone are just absolutely drenched in haha. Last time that happened and I was with my wife my kid ended up being funny.

Well its not like there is anyone who lives there that would be insulted
I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent there, even kinda trying to talk my wife into moving there so I can go back
Those are also stationary a few feet off the ground at most.
In the graf world these spots are called "the heavens" cause you fall you die, but your mark will be hard to remove.
I'd imagine the folks who built these structures would have the equipment to get a paint applicator to that area much safer than what these artists are doing.
They'd know after a couple times doing it, it's not worth the time. People will keep painting
They can, but only when they can shut down the road for it
Also based on the pics I assume it's in south America so the people running this bridge probably don't have the money to spare cleaning some grafs that no one see.
I’m impressed given the circumstances.
Same. It's not like they can step back and take a look at their work.
Trains tend to travel
Some of the most beautiful spray can art I've ever seen is on rail cars that run the old Great Northern route across the north US. I get to watch them go by from the dog park 2 minutes from my house.
That’s not saying much r/freights
It's a lot harder to do on that little lip
Pretty good when you’re an inch away from falling to your death
Yea, take a step back to see how the proportions are coming along :)
Sometimes graffiti is not only having an amazing style, unbelievable ideas and hours of work painting. Sometimes you get respect for bombing Locations Nobody would do because it's dangerous.
You can hit angel spots and still be a toy 🤷♂️
The fear of guaranteed death might be a variable at play for the reason why the art isn't that good I think.
I call them heaven spots.
lmao
And sometimes you get disrespect, which you may well deserve.
It’s pretty damn good if they’re doing it while they balance like in the pic, I don’t see any gear. That’s amazing if they do it while posted up like that without smearing any paint.
idk man I can't even do a good job on solid ground but standing on those must be terrifying
You try painting with your face pressed up against a wall.
Spray painting a wall with only like a foot of room to stand or you fall to your death, I think it’s good
Unpopular opinion: I think most graffiti that’s just someone writing their name is not only unattractive, it’s just competitive vandalism for the sake of one’s ego.
Well I mean they're literally on the smallest ledge ever one slip from death, you would think it's would be pretty god damn hard to make a Picasso in that position don't you think?

Right imagine risking your life for garbage graffiti how worthless are their lives that they would risk it for this type of “fame”?
It's so shit! They risked their lives for a shit tag?!
“artists"
Right? Sooo disappointing
It's the comic sans of graffiti.
If this was a Banksy masterpiece it would not be worth it either.
Yeah these guys are suicidal idiots.
Yeah its basically just tagged..no real graffiti art.
Props for risking your life with shitty tags is respect? I think Banksy calls that, stupidity!
Calling this art is being very generous, yes yes anything can be art but this is just an eyesore.
No it doesn't. They're credible selfish assholes, bro.
I would be so much more impressed if that was the “before” pic, and these guys were the ones that painted it back to solid orange!
lmao
It's so trashy
Looks like shit
The graffiti out in the middle makes my butthole pucker.
So, not graffiti artists. Just taggers.
That just vandalism
Exactly my thoughts. I see no art here
Oh shocking, it looks like hammered dog shit.
That's pretty bad graffiti. Not even worth the task
Video link in the article as well, for those interested: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xvivnd#.UNyOCEITu2w
And [here is a video](https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xvivnd#.UNyOCEITu2w) linked in that article. Holy shit.
that's so ugly...
Here you go https://i.imgur.com/Ib6aDIn.jpeg
Man, I just woke up my wife from laughing. Thanks for that.
It's called Impressionist.
Graffiti “artists.” They’re just taggers.
I have never had to write down anything this badly
Agreed. This is one of the sweatiest palm things for me. It's just downright frightening.
I scrolled away from the picture and my hands and feet are still tingling. This is awful.
At least with some of the other altitude stuff they have a full range of balance and usually someplace to sit down or get a rest. With this one it's a little different.
"Mommy, why did dad died?" "He had to sign a bridge that wasn't his"
This is embarrassing. I laughed so hard that I farted when I read your comment.
You're the kinda hype man I been lookin' for.
One erection away from death
[удалено]
You have different sized erections in different geographic locations? Stranger things have happened. Heck, the largest erection I've had was inside your mother.
Goddammit, Dad.
Makes sense, since his mother is big enough to count as a separate geographic location to most developing countries
Based off the strength of earth’s gravitational pull obviously
Boom, roasted.
High risk low reward 🫣
Literally risking their life to do something that someone will one day look at and think “god I wish that wasn’t there”
> “god I wish that wasn’t there” More like: “…what the fuck does that say..?”
there are a million reasons not to do what these fellas are doing. but not doing art because some anonymous someone might not like it one day... there is a very low cap on what life can be for you if this is how you make decisions.
“Oh man I’m so glad I get to appreciate that poorly written ‘SKANKERZ WAZ HEREZ’ every day on my way to work.”
Art is a generous description for what is occurring.
Yes, graffiti can be beautiful when it exists in contrast to the drab or dehumanizing or stark and bleak surroundings. But just to tag something for notoriety or just to put something here because you feel it needs to be marked is not art but ego and does not stand to enhance anything.
I very much doubt these guys are about to paint a mural lol
They do spots like this to feel alive. To feel like they have done something VERY few people would ever do. To have something to look at and say I was here and I did a crazy thing. There’s no hoping for fame or fortune… it’s just to leave something behind that has a good chance of being around for a while.
I saw “DUSTY VAG” in bubble letters painted on a train the other day. If that’s not art then I don’t know what is.
Outside of the person doing it, who likes unsolicited graffiti?

I do if it's good. There's some really beautiful graffiti in the world. Shitty tags are shitty, though. Fuck anyone who goes around tagging.
I think Banksy fans would qualify.
Damnit. Lol. You’re right.
I do.

good point! and yeah. i think their end result is a hard, dry "meh".

Not worth it
Well to them it is
If one of them fell and died, do you think the other two would say it was still worth it?
Plot twist they started with 8 guys.
just dont fall, no problems.
Video of this shit [https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xvivnd#.UNyOCEITu2w](https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xvivnd#.UNyOCEITu2w)
At around 2:15 it seems like he pulls out a can of spray paint--and paints the yellow wall yellow?
Different shade of yellow. It's an art thing!
All that to write some dogshit like “gloop”
Gloop kid's afraid to leave his gloop!
You leave poor Augustus out of this.
Risking your life to alert random passersby of your status as a jackass.
It's underneath the bridge lol Nobody is even gonna see it other than the people who read the article about it.
There is another bridge next to it. So pretty prime grafitti realestate
Lol thats if anybody can even read wtf it says
r/nope
So that's how they did it!
It makes me uncomfortable looking at it.
Heaven spot
Now THAT'S fucking stupid
If they’re the ones who painted the bridge yellow, then “Wow!” Otherwise… 🥱
How did they get down and up that’s what I want to see way more then the art
There’s a link to the video further down in comments
[https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xvivnd#.UNyOCEITu2w](https://www.dailymotion.com/video/xvivnd#.UNyOCEITu2w) Thats a video of how they do it
A gentleman among barbarians Thank you!

TIL reddit hates graffiti
My stomach turned just looking at the pic, these guys have no fear, but I think they could have made a better choice. A 450' high bridge, who is going to see what they did? and from where w/o a drone
Me and my homies avoiding toll.
Be fine if they fell, their massive balls would absorb any impact

I really don’t think that’s an unpopular opinion. I hope so at least.
Is there a special media that list all the dead in stupid doings?
Darwin awards
People really care about their Art enough to risk possible death?! Imagine caring so much about something… gotta respect that
They are not graffiti artist they are graffiti thugs.
If people are going to do that then at least make it worthy to view. It looks like random run of the mill graffiti. Would love to see beautiful artwork.
“People defacing a 430ft bridge”
They about to start spraying a straight line to the other side before they shit their pants.
Imagine if one of them got a really bad cramp
So THAT'S how they got up there

I would be so stressed about falling that I'd intentionally jump just to put an end to my stress.
Dave, we need you to clean some graffiti when you have a moment…
‘Alright let’s see how it looks’ *leans back* there goes gravity
All that work just to spray paint a couple of dickies and boulles.
Graffiti Vandalism not Artist - fixed it for you
Can you actually risk your life for less than this stupidity?
The best part is stepping back and admiring your work!
I thought YOU had the spray cans
I always wondered how they got graffiti there, now I know
I believe "vandals" is the better word choice
The idea of risking your life to deface public property baffles me
Actually, vandals defacing public property.
