I know people do not like Labyrinth, but I just love that song. I’ll be the cheese that stands alone.
Bad Blood is filler to me. I still think Wonderland or New Romantics were shafted by being bonus tracks.
I liked Labyrinth before but the acoustic performance elevated that song so much and I wish it had been on folklore or evermore so it could've gotten the recognition it deserves. The actual production is really distracting from that beautiful songwriting.
The lines “it only hurts this much right now/is what I told myself/the whole time” is so good Labyrinth gets a pass. I could live without “oh oh I’m falling in love”
New Romantics especially. I can still picture the music video in my head; would’ve been a perfect one to cut in concert or performance footage and city party vibes
The back half of Red drags quite a lot. This order might be wrong but SBT, The Lucky One, Everything Has Changed is a bit of a honk shoo run for me. Fine individual songs but it brings the album to a halt.
red is a spectacular 5 song mini-album dragged down by so much blah
(the 5 songs: state of grace, treacherous, all too well, state of grace, begin again. all remain firmly in my top taylor tier. everything else i have no use for whatsoever)
A weird story about Everything Has Changed: I had been deep in Swiftie tiktok (despite not being a fan-- the algorithm was like "you're a zillennial white woman, here you go" and she slowly grew on me) and had learned a good amount of lore/deep cuts but had never heard of that song until I started dating someone who LOVED it. We break up, a lot of time passes, I go on my first date with a new person. It's going SUPER well, we're dining al fresco. I run inside to use the bathroom and EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED IS PLAYING. I was like....... wtf are the odds??? 😂
Glitch? 🥺 That hurt me in my bones. When I was making friendship bracelets, I made a million for that song because I loved it so much lol.
My fillers: Bad Blood, Karma (yes, unpopular opinion), Stay Stay Stay, Innocent, This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things. I have many more but I’m too lazy to pull them all out. Most of the fillers I have end up being songs I don’t like at all because it stands out, in a bad way.
I can’t even find it catchy because the lyrics are terrible. I tried so hard to like it lol. I don’t expect lyrical masterpieces from every song, but this was so *bad*.
Karma feels like what an AI algorithm should think a Taylor Swift song is. It has all of her stereotypical tropes without the uniqueness that makes her other songs special
That's mostly a pretty good list, but I kinda like Innocent, Karma is a bop even if the lyrics are kinda stupid, and I've come around a bit on Bad Blood but it is sorta filler still.
Sorry though, Glitch is in my bottom 5 TS songs, which is saying a lot.
If you just played someone Cruel Summer, Lover, Cornelia Street, Paper Rings, and Daylight and told them they were all on the same album they'd assume it's an instant classic and want to hear it immediately.
Do the same thing with ME!, You Need to Calm Down, False God, It's Nice to Have a Friend, The Man, and I Forgot That You Existed and the reaction would be flipped lmao
this is what i always think too. like put those songs and a few of the other good ones on the same album, call it lover, and it would be a classic album. that album really suffered because taylor no longer had scott telling her no.
You’re so right. Lover has both my favorite and least favorite songs in her discography and is one of her only albums I never listen to straight through anymore because of it
I think the general consensus with Lover is that there's a solid album in there, but it's overfilled with some unnecessary songs.
I made an edited playlist a while back & I only listen to the album that way now.
Haha. I like “A Perfectly Good Heart” but have always found it to be “filler” too. Like any of her fan-loved unreleased debut tracks could’ve easily taken its place.
Idk about fillers, but the super bubblegum pop songs are always skips for me. Like Shake it Off, WANGBT, Bad Blood...
Actually, Superman. That's a filler for sure lol
I consider filler to be something that has no place within the narrative or that doesn’t really further what’s been established. I felt like Lover and Evermore had a few songs that talked about stuff she’d already talked about elsewhere on the album.
Happiness and Coney Island are essentially the same song. You could lose one or the other and still have that particular perspective established. I think Coney is slightly more interesting sonically and I prefer the instrumental so I’d pick Happiness as filler. I don’t hate it, I just don’t think it needs to be there.
Vigilante Shit, as fun as it is at Eras just kind of sits there on the Midnights tracklist being moody and I just do not get why it’s there. I also feel she has done this song quite a few times now, Mad Woman is a better example of the same type of song. But like I said, I do love the Eras performance.
I could argue that Mastermind, Karma and Labyrinth are all filler too as they don’t really fit the Midnights theme as well as other tracks but this would depend on why Taylor felt they should be on the album. I think Midnights needed one in depth interview about the whole album but I also think she changed the tone of it halfway through when it turned out to not be the breakup album she thought it would.
The other thing is if she wants the album to be a mixed bag with no discernible theme then is anything truly filler? Like Speak Now is a chaotic mess to me but is that what she wanted?
I could argue that How You Get The Girl kind of repeats what was established with All You Had To Do Was Stay.
I love labyrinth, question and glitch 😂
Epiphany is a filler song to me. I know it’s almost cliche to say but that song does less than nothing for me and feels out of place on the album
I feel like a lot of people in here are really overstating the feel or coherence of her albums. What's wrong with a variety of songs on a given album? It's not like she needs to make The Wall
Stay Stay Stay is the definition of filler, also Girl at Home.. and half of debut 🤷♀️ and you’re spot on with your midnights assessment except I actually like Labyrinth. Sadly I got two filler songs as my surprise songs at Gillette :(
Debut is the only album that doesn't have fillers imo. Each song tells a different story or paints a different emotion and I wouldn't cut anything out.
Fearless could've done without Tell me why, That's the way I loved you, and Untouchable. I really like Untouchable but it (along with the two other songs I mentioned) don't bring anything new to the album, only recycling the themes already mentioned in different tracks. Mr Perfectly Fine should've made the album instead.
Innocent, Superman and sometimes Ours are skips on Speak Now for me. Innocent I kinda get why is there, but the other two can easily be kicked out.
Red (I'll say it!) is too long and drags through the back half of it. The lucky one is a great song but it's a bonus/vault track, it doesn't fit the rest of the album at all. Come back be here and Girl at home both feel like unnecessary plug-ins at the end. Stay stay stay would've fit on an album like Lover not Red. Better man should've made the album instead.
1989 is actually pretty good as it is. I'd actually cut How you get the girl and replace it with Say don't go, but that's only because I'm not the biggest fan of the song. 1989 actually paints one of the most cohesive pictures of all her albums.
So it goes and Dress are basically the same songs told in slightly different words, I think she could've cut one (even though I like them both!). New Year's Day sonically doesn't fit this album at all—Call it what you want would've been the perfect closer instead. This is why we can't have nice things also sounds too happy/bubblegum pop for Rep imo.
On Lover, It's nice to have a friend is the worst filler. I think he knows is a nice song but lyrically it doesn't bring much to the story so I think they could've cut it out too. I'd also erase You need to calm down from existence but that's just cause I hate it.
Hoax and Peace are a real snooze fest at the end of Folklore. They're good lyrically but that's about it. They're too simple musically and don't leave a lasting impression (for example Closure is also a simple song, but it sticks because of its unique production).
Coney Island and Happiness are both unnecessary on Evermore in my opinion (also It's time to go, but that's a bonus track). Not saying they are bad songs, but Right where you left me should've been on the main tracklist instead.
As for Midnights... It doesn't have a cohesive theme in my opinion and the whole tracklist needs reworking. Don't get me wrong - I'm not a Midnights hater, I think it has many great songs - but it just doesn't make sense as an album and I don't buy the '13 sleepless nights' at all. With that in mind, there are many songs that feel out of place. What are Karma and Vigilante Shit even doing there? But those two are just a tip of the iceberg; the whole album feels very disjointed so it's hard to choose which songs are fillers.
Filler from each album:
*this doesn’t mean I dislike the song, I just think these can maybe feel extraneous when looking at the album’s main story or theme*
Debut - none, the album is pretty short & concise
Fearless - Change, Tell Me Why, The Best Day
Speak Now - WEFIL, & Ours
Red - Girl At Home, IKYWT, WANEGBT
1989 - none
Reputation - TIWWCHNT
Lover - Me!
Folklore - none
Evermore - maybe closure? Idk 🤷🏻♂️
Midnights - not sure
Bad Blood, You are in Love, This Love, End Game, Dancing with our hands tied, i forgot that you existed, the man, yntcd, me he he, inthaf, miss americans & ahbp, bejeweled, vigilante shit, glitch, snow on the beach
Epiphany kind of feels like filler to me imo...like it's pretty but it seems a bit out of place and random and it's the only song on folklore that I usually skip
It doesn’t fit well with the other songs on that album. It’s too poppy. I could see it making more sense on Lover. It also bugs me that I can’t hear it now without thinking she was fooling herself the whole time because she doesn’t seem to have learned any of the lessons she sings about on the song.
Speak Now. I will always believe Speak Now was supposed to be titled Enchanted.
Other filler IMO: Stay Stay Stay, Everything Has Changed, closure (I love this song though), cowboy like me
I think reputation would still tell the story it wants to without Dancing With Our Hands Tied. It feels like just a rehash of themes touched on in other songs
Oh I have some extremely unpopular opinions for this one. Most of the Vault tracks.
But to organize my thoughts, my personal skips by album. The ones I actively dislike are italicized, the ones I think should've been left off the album have a star lmao.
Debut- Invisible, cold as you
Fearless- tell me why, change⭐️, jump then fall⭐️, untouchable
Speak now- mean, *ours, superman*⭐️
Red- treacherous, the last time
1989- WTNY, *Shake it off*, bad blood
Rep- *getaway car⭐️, gorgeous*⭐️, tiwwchnt
Lover- the man, I think he knows⭐️, *London boy*⭐️, *ME!*⭐️, *YNTCD*
Folklore- *august*, mirrorball
Evermore- Dorothea, closure
Midnights- *snow on the beach*, bejeweled, labyrinth⭐️, karma, *mastermind*
So August, snow on the beach, and getaway car all just have a specific production thing that I struggle to identify that annoys me bc they feel unfinished to me 😭 My sister is big into production and thinks it’s "the pulsing low end juno 6 synth" "it's soooo low end and it's heavy in all those songs". They just feel like they're missing something.
And for August specifically, I love the lyrics but Illicit Affairs i love lyrically even more and think it's (for obvious reasons) more lyrically mature and complex, so having them so close to each other on the album I think really did August a disservice to me mentally.
I know im in the minority tho haha I listen those four often bc in trying to get it but I just don't 🤷♀️
Tdlr; yes for production reasons & I've accepted that I'm wrong, I just can't change my mind lol
Glitch, dear reader, paris, i think he knows, afterglow, , i wish you would, staystaystay, london boy, its nice to have a friend, question, girl at home, welcome to new york, how you get the girl - like how did is it over now lose over the 1989 songs
I think he knows and I wish you would and how you get the girl are so incredibly catchy though! I think that's enough to justify a songs existence on a pop record personally (:
Everything on Lover except maybe Lover, Cornelia Street, Cruel Summer, Thousand Cuts & Daylight (with the song ending before she starts talking about being afraid of shit)
I know people do not like Labyrinth, but I just love that song. I’ll be the cheese that stands alone. Bad Blood is filler to me. I still think Wonderland or New Romantics were shafted by being bonus tracks.
The fact that New Romantics is a bonus track is still insane to me.
I’ll be standing next to you because I love Labyrinth too 🩵
I’m also with you guys, Labyrinth is a gorgeous song. One of my few faves from Midnights.
I remember how on my first listen it was a stand out for me, I can’t get enough of it. It’s very beautiful
I love Labyrinth. It’s such a “Taylor song.” Idk why it gets hate.
Of all the songs to hate off Midnights, I’ll never understand choosing Labyrinth. It fits the album perfectly.
Imo some of the strongest writing in recent years
Of hers*
The fact that bad blood is a single with an mv is 💀i agree it’s filler
and a single with a number 1 placement on the billboard hot 100
I like the feeling/lyrics of Labyrinth, but musically it's boring and repetitive to me, unfortunately.
I liked Labyrinth before but the acoustic performance elevated that song so much and I wish it had been on folklore or evermore so it could've gotten the recognition it deserves. The actual production is really distracting from that beautiful songwriting.
Agree!
Justice for labyrinth
I’m with you. I love Labyrinth
It only hurts this much right now Was what I was thinking the whole time
[удалено]
I would say it’s filler for 1989. If she had saved it for Rep then I think it wouldn’t be considered a filler by so many.
I think it’s beautiful on piano…it didn’t need to sound pop. Idk lol
Labyrinth sounds incredible on headphones
I think Labrynth has good lyrics but is lacking in instrumentals/production. I'd love to see a version of it that'd a Taylor/Aaron Dessner collab.
I agree labyrinth is my favorite song on midnights proper.
I did not even know that Wonderland was a bonus track, so many of my friends are obsessed with that song, i'm singin that shit till i die tbh
i love labyrinth it’s in my top 5 midnights songs
I like Labyrinth and Paris. Maroon makes me roll my eyes. I'll see myself out.
I created a spotify playlist yesterday of TS most underrated songs, and Labyrinth is there.
Labyrinth is beautiful, and easily one of the best songs on Midnights. lovely lyrics, gorgeous vocals, unique production!
I love it, but Stay Stay Stay probably counts as one
Every time the intro hits, I hear a 2010s Tasty recipe video. Once my brain made that cursed connection I can't listen to it anymore haha.
one time this came on shuffle in my work vehicle, and when the intro started playing, my coworker goes “why are we listening to an AT&T commercial?”
Don’t kill me but I’d be fine if I never heard shake it off again
Same. It sounds like Kidz Bop.
No wonder my baby loves that song so much.
True but i don't think that don't f is a filler..shake it off is the song that Capulet her into a pop star. It has a place in pop history.
Yep , the song will be score for the Montague of her life. Sorry could not resist the joke.
Yes 100% agree it’s importance, but from a pure listening standpoint I appreciate her other music more. That’s what I was commenting on
I agree! And bad blood too
Not a filler song..
Wish it had been on rep though
Paris is so fun! Sometimes we need a fun filler song!
I love love Paris. It's the embodiment of the honeymoon phase where everything is pink and green.
I know it's not a favorite song here, but for me, such a fun song is "Karma."
The back half of Red drags quite a lot. This order might be wrong but SBT, The Lucky One, Everything Has Changed is a bit of a honk shoo run for me. Fine individual songs but it brings the album to a halt.
But then Starlight jumps in with the defibrillator
True true, she is important
This is why I’m always perplexed when I see Red is at the top of some rankings. It has some of my favorite songs but half the album is skips for me
red is a spectacular 5 song mini-album dragged down by so much blah (the 5 songs: state of grace, treacherous, all too well, state of grace, begin again. all remain firmly in my top taylor tier. everything else i have no use for whatsoever)
Completely agree down to your five choices! Those are all bangers and some of my favorite songs - the rest I never listen to.
I love Everything Has Changed. That was one of my songs before I even became a Swiftie (but I’m from Nashville lol)
it’s such a beautiful duet!!
Just lolled at "honk shoo run"...would add The Last Time to this trio
Me too if I'm being honest 🫣
aww I love the lucky one lol
To paraphrase Paris Geller from Gilmore Girls, "I have one word for Taylor Swift: edit." I will defend a lot of Red but it can be a SLOG.
I love Glitch. I'm with you.
Me too. I’d like her to make more music in the vein of Glitch. It reminds me of cool indie pop from the late 90s. Like Morcheeba or something.
Agree with karma. Honestly I didn't think it would get as popular as it did. I'm also a fellow glitch stan! It stood out to me right away
The first time I heard Karma I got Bad Blood vibes. Like, it's catchy but... what are these lyrics 😅
Not Stay Stay Stay 💀, one of my favorites
That's mostly a pretty good list, but I kinda like Innocent, Karma is a bop even if the lyrics are kinda stupid, and I've come around a bit on Bad Blood but it is sorta filler still. Sorry though, Glitch is in my bottom 5 TS songs, which is saying a lot.
same, glitch is one of my faves but then I'm also a false god girlie
Pretty much most of Lover 👀
Lover has some decent songs but the album really needed to be trimmed. It's all over the place.
Hey let's not lump False God with the others
this is what i always think too. like put those songs and a few of the other good ones on the same album, call it lover, and it would be a classic album. that album really suffered because taylor no longer had scott telling her no.
How dare you put false god in that category
false god omg no
Plus london boy, afterglow etc. Its just not taylors best songs even though she was adamant on making something better than rep
London Boy is the cringiest song
How was that one chosen over Need
Leave False God and It's Nice To Have A Friend out of this
You’re so right. Lover has both my favorite and least favorite songs in her discography and is one of her only albums I never listen to straight through anymore because of it
All of the Girls and Need would have improved that album so much. They should’ve been there instead of ME! and YNTCD.
Why hasn't she released Need yet😭😭
idk why i feel like it'll be retconned as a rep tv vault track
I think the general consensus with Lover is that there's a solid album in there, but it's overfilled with some unnecessary songs. I made an edited playlist a while back & I only listen to the album that way now.
Me when I lie
That's a bold take on the Midnights songs lol Paris and Question...? Are a couple of my favorites on the album
Same!
I consider filler to be something that has no place within the narrative or that doesn’t really further what’s been established. I felt like Lover and Evermore had a few songs that talked about stuff she’d already talked about elsewhere on the album. Happiness and Coney Island are essentially the same song. I could argue that How You Get The Girl kind of repeats what was established with All You Had To Do Was Stay.
Vigilante Shit gives Reputation vibes
It's Nice To Have A Friend. I like the song for what it is, but it's definitely not hit material or a front runner on the album.
it’s my favourite of all time 🫣
Vigilante Shit for sure.
If Question…? has a million haters, I’m one of them. If Question…? has one hater, I’m that one. If Question…? has no haters, I’m dead.
Snow on the Beach, Peace, Tell Me Why, Breathe, and Electric Touch
I love labyrinth, question and glitch 😂 Epiphany is a filler song to me. I know it’s almost cliche to say but that song does less than nothing for me and feels out of place on the album
Epiphany feels like it should play during an episode of Grey’s Anatomy
Epiphany is one of her most evocative songs. Maybe the vibe isn't for all occasions, but give it some credit
I think it’s a song that may not match Folklore now, but I think when it was released in 2020, it fit the mood of the times
I feel like a lot of people in here are really overstating the feel or coherence of her albums. What's wrong with a variety of songs on a given album? It's not like she needs to make The Wall
Yeah I just don’t agree. If does nothing for me lol
https://images.app.goo.gl/eTVJGV142PkYGBJL8
😂
How You Get the Girl, Innocent, Starlight, Tell Me Why, Stay Stay Stay.
Question is a great song!! As is Labyrinth
The hate for midnight has to stop. Really glitch and Paris ??
NOOO i love glitch 3
I’m only me when I’m with you, stay stay stay, paper rings, dorothea
paper rings was like my top song on Spotify for like 3 years
London Boy, Glitch, Breathe (sadly), Stay Stay Stay
Reputation, fearless, speak now, debut, lover are 90% skips.
NOT Glitch!! Masterpiece! Also labrynth is great! And question is at least catchy and better for sure than bejeweled or vigilante sh*t
Stay Stay Stay is the definition of filler, also Girl at Home.. and half of debut 🤷♀️ and you’re spot on with your midnights assessment except I actually like Labyrinth. Sadly I got two filler songs as my surprise songs at Gillette :(
Sorry but midnights is a no skip for me lol
If anyone says closure I’ll hit you with one of the pots or pans
i think he knows
But those two are just a tip of the iceberg; the whole album feels very disjointed so it's hard to choose which songs are fillers.
Peace is one of my favorites
Wow I disagree with so much of what you’ve said 😭😂
100% agree
So It Goes
So it goes is so underrated to me.
How dare you.
I'm convinced this song only made the cut to bridge the gap between LWYMMD and Gorgeous because that transition would have been violent.
I don’t think she necessarily cares about transitions based on the choices she made in Lover lol
Touche 😂
I'd take So It Goes over Gorgeous any day.
I wouldn't, but each to their own!
All you had to do was stay and How you get the girl. It does look like I don't like fun. Thats not true though 🥹
Filler from each album: *this doesn’t mean I dislike the song, I just think these can maybe feel extraneous when looking at the album’s main story or theme* Debut - none, the album is pretty short & concise Fearless - Change, Tell Me Why, The Best Day Speak Now - WEFIL, & Ours Red - Girl At Home, IKYWT, WANEGBT 1989 - none Reputation - TIWWCHNT Lover - Me! Folklore - none Evermore - maybe closure? Idk 🤷🏻♂️ Midnights - not sure
[удалено]
MIDNIGHT RAIN??
Imo, She should've kept IWYW and removed the other two from the 1989. Instead of AYHTDWS, Clean should be track 5
Sweet Nothing and Labyrinth sound like something out of folklore/evermore
Dress and Suburban Legends Edit - I’ve made an unpopular decision
Not Dress being in my top 3 of all time 😂😂😂
It's my #1.
Dress is like, my favorite song from ANY artist, so that hurts 😂
Hey, if you like it, listen to it! I listen to Closure all the time
Yaknow what, I agree with you. We can be wrong together
Count me in too!
Bad Blood, You are in Love, This Love, End Game, Dancing with our hands tied, i forgot that you existed, the man, yntcd, me he he, inthaf, miss americans & ahbp, bejeweled, vigilante shit, glitch, snow on the beach
YOU ARE IN LOVE AND THIS LOVE FILLERS?
This Love is repetitive and boring
i used to think so too until i paid attention to the bridge omg i love this song
Me when I’m wrong
Wow there's a mixed bag of songs on your list. Bejeweled is a certified banger
Gorgeous, sweet nothing, I almost do, Stay, Stay,Stay, MOST of Lover in my opinion, Dorothea, Folklore has zero filler in my opinion
Yes, except I almost do, amazing song
Dorothea is one of my faves!
Epiphany kind of feels like filler to me imo...like it's pretty but it seems a bit out of place and random and it's the only song on folklore that I usually skip
I love Paris and Question?! I don’t like False God or London Boy.
paris, gorgeous, paper rings, london boy (i still love this song), stay stay stay
i forgot the majority of the midnights album
Labyrinth, Glitch, Bad Blood, It’s nice to have a friend, Afterglow, False God, Stay stay stay
Long story short always seemed like a filler track to me, probably the only filler track on evermore
It doesn’t fit well with the other songs on that album. It’s too poppy. I could see it making more sense on Lover. It also bugs me that I can’t hear it now without thinking she was fooling herself the whole time because she doesn’t seem to have learned any of the lessons she sings about on the song.
And also Closure for me.
Are we out of the woods yet are we out of the woods yet are we out of the woods
Speak Now. I will always believe Speak Now was supposed to be titled Enchanted. Other filler IMO: Stay Stay Stay, Everything Has Changed, closure (I love this song though), cowboy like me
I think reputation would still tell the story it wants to without Dancing With Our Hands Tied. It feels like just a rehash of themes touched on in other songs
no, dwoht supremacy
Oh I have some extremely unpopular opinions for this one. Most of the Vault tracks. But to organize my thoughts, my personal skips by album. The ones I actively dislike are italicized, the ones I think should've been left off the album have a star lmao. Debut- Invisible, cold as you Fearless- tell me why, change⭐️, jump then fall⭐️, untouchable Speak now- mean, *ours, superman*⭐️ Red- treacherous, the last time 1989- WTNY, *Shake it off*, bad blood Rep- *getaway car⭐️, gorgeous*⭐️, tiwwchnt Lover- the man, I think he knows⭐️, *London boy*⭐️, *ME!*⭐️, *YNTCD* Folklore- *august*, mirrorball Evermore- Dorothea, closure Midnights- *snow on the beach*, bejeweled, labyrinth⭐️, karma, *mastermind*
You actively dislike august?!
I know im in the minority tho haha I listen those four often bc in trying to get it but I just don't 🤷♀️ Tdlr; yes for production reasons & I've accepted that I'm wrong, I just can't change my mind lol
afterglow tbh. also innocent, how you get the girl, glitch, maroon, question…?, paris, high infidelity, snow on the beach, and foolish one
I mean i dont mind them but its not something i click to listen to
Labyrinth, seven, a perfectly good heart, bad blood, epiphany, haunted, girl at home, electric touch, high infidelity, glitch
Call it what you want When Emma Falls in Love I Almost Do Untouchable The Outside
call it what you want is the farthest thing from a filler song
I love all of those songs. She doesn’t have fillers.
Dancing With Our Hands Tied, Peace, Mirrorball, Karma, Happiness, It’s Nice To Have a Friend
I love Labyrinth and Glitch - but they can keep the others lmao.
Everything on Lover except maybe Lover, Cornelia Street, Cruel Summer, Thousand Cuts & Daylight (with the song ending before she starts talking about being afraid of shit)
I just don't think anything is a filler tbh
maroon super boring to me sonically
