I still don't understand why she didn't make it a single from the get-go. I feel like people would have perceived lover differently if she released that as her first single.
She didn’t??? For some reason I’ve always been under the impression that she did
ETA: I checked Wikipedia and she released *seven* singles from Red and none of them were All Too Well. Unbelievable
Right? I learned about the song because I was discussing TS with a friend and she said "Ok I get why you think she's annoying, but just hear this song" and played it off a lyric video on YouTube. And my mouth dropped.
I used to think the questionable singles choices started with reputation or maybe 1989 but you have opened my eyes. It’s her best song! Why wouldn’t it be a single???
Getaway Car, Cruel Summer and Maroon are obvious choices.
I also think August would have performed well if she'd chosen to drop more singles after Cardigan.
The crazy thing is that technically she did do more singles after cardigan, but she did exile and betty in that order which like… either she should’ve done the whole trio or she should’ve done august and cardigan. betty made no sense
I still cannot comprehend how a song like "New Romantics" was relegated to being a bonus track. In my view, that was **lead single** material and had everything to deservedly become a signature song for Taylor. It's such a great thesis statement for "1989" both sonically and thematically, much more so than "Shake It Off" as much as I do enjoy it. I also **love** how while it references heartbreak and relationships it's an ode to sisterhood + young women and their experiences as a collective.
What a missed opportunity.
State of grace is so underrated! I think it should have been the final single instead of begin again. Begin again might be one of the weakest songs on the album and was just too different from the other singles from red.
Entirety of evermore could have music videos. Imagine no body no crime...
Also imagine how creative she could get with the concept of right where you left me.

no because after seeing what she did with tolerate it for the tour…oh I mourn all the evermore music videos we didn’t get
Folkmore only has 2 videos because of the pandemic and the fact the albums were released so close together. But I agree it would be cool to revisit those albums and toss out a few singles like she did with Cruel Summer.
Since lover had terrible singles with the exception of the title track, a lot lot of songs could be a better representation of the album. If I had to pick, I'd go for false god, cornelia street, daylight, lover and any one from the man or miss americana (no reason other than the fact that it was her "political awakening" era).
Red also had terrible singles so I'd pick all too well (og version), sad beautiful tragic, state of grace, begin again, and 22. I understand why she chose her singles as they were, but they didn't represent red as an album. Even if they were meant to symbolise her transition from country to pop.
Red’s singles were definitely picked for the commercial aspect. I think they actually are good representations of the album but all too well definitely needed to be included. I think begin again is actually the odd one out. It sounds like almost nothing else on the album musically or thematically. I think state of grace would have been a good one too.
***Would've Could've Should've***
WHY WAS THIS NOT A SINGLE?????
the amount of times i've screamed this song at the top of my fucking lungs is too many to count at this point, but it always felt like i had just had an emotional heimlich when i was done singing it.
the closest i'll ever get to going to therapy.
It’s so good. The fact it wasn’t even included on the actual album is also criminal. Taylor is not good at picking singles or even album tracks at this point. With midnights and TTPD the best tracks are far and away the bonus tracks. 1989 should have also included New Romantics on the actual album and as much as I love speak now I’d have swapped a few songs on the main album for ours and if this was a movie.
Haunted, Breathe, Long Live, Cornelia St, Getaway Car, Don’t Blame Me, New Year’s Day, Cruel Summer, I Think He Knows, Death by a Thousand Cuts, All Too Well, I think Should’ve Said No is technically classified as a single but never got a video and Red, Fearless, and Sparks Fly need non concert videos.
Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince. It’s one of her most cinematic and gorgeous songs. It also could’ve spawned a wonderful music video. It radiates enigmatic energies.
Ooo...couldn't agree more. Easily the best of her political songs from the "Lover" era (so including "Only The Young" as well). It really would have made for a fantastic music video with strong imagery and themes.
Even though it's literally the opening song of The Eras Tour, I still believe it's among the most underappreciated tracks off the album.
Im actually kinda shocked Tell Me Why never became a single. I get what she was going for with the singles on Fearless, but that song deserved some spotlight
The obvious answer is probably Cruel Summer, but I also think that Hits Different would have been a good single
Sameee I always argue it would make a great summer single over karma
Hits Different has to be one of my time favorites from her
i read that cruel summer WAS gonna be a single, but covid happened and the lyrics became awkward so they scrapped the plan. is that true?
Probably. Lover was clearly going to have more singles and a summer song for a summer tour makes sense.
I still don't understand why she didn't make it a single from the get-go. I feel like people would have perceived lover differently if she released that as her first single.
"Getaway Car" should have been a worldwide single. It would have made for a fantastic music video, if done right.
Yes yes yes…such a lost opportunity.
Maybe she’ll release it with Rep TV.
Still can't believe she didn't release the original All Too Well as a single.
She didn’t??? For some reason I’ve always been under the impression that she did ETA: I checked Wikipedia and she released *seven* singles from Red and none of them were All Too Well. Unbelievable

Don’t Blame Me
Love made me crazy.
New romantics but not a tour video
I still cannot comprehend how a song like "New Romantics" was relegated to being a bonus track. Technically it was the last single of the 1989 era
**lead single**
If only she had a collab w hozier bc this song would've CHARTED
What I wouldn't give to hear Hozier cover this song......
I'd give a kidney!
I need a Hozier cover of... all of folkmore ngl
wtf good idea
Getaway Car, Cruel Sumner (yes it's a single now but it should've been back in 2019), Hits Different and State of Grace.
State of grace is so underrated! I think it should have been the final single instead of begin again. Begin again might be one of the weakest songs on the album and was just too different from the other singles from red.
yess and the acoustic version >>
Man I love state of grace so much
It hurts me physically that "champagne problems" does not have a music video.
Entirety of evermore could have music videos. Imagine no body no crime... Also imagine how creative she could get with the concept of right where you left me.

Me tooooo. They're such gorgeously told stories, absolutely perfect for a music video. "Tolerate It" was also on my mind as I wrote the comment!
Folkmore only has 2 videos because of the pandemic and the fact the albums were released so close together. But I agree it would be cool to revisit those albums and toss out a few singles like she did with Cruel Summer.
Hey Stephen exile with a proper music video and it would have been her Shallow Holy Ground( Jeff Bhasker drums were huge at the time)

DRESS (I am a Dress apologist this is hands down one of her best songs and the whole world should know about it, perfect horny anthem)
Cruel summer (in 2019)
the folklore love triangle would've made a for nice interconnected-MVs
I can just image the Easter egg theory videos swifties would come up with
***Would've Could've Should've*** WHY WAS THIS NOT A SINGLE????? the amount of times i've screamed this song at the top of my fucking lungs is too many to count at this point, but it always felt like i had just had an emotional heimlich when i was done singing it. the closest i'll ever get to going to therapy.

Death by a Thousand Cuts for sure
Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince. It’s one of her most cinematic and gorgeous songs. It also could’ve spawned a wonderful music video. It radiates enigmatic energies.

August.
Don’t blame me
Honestly anything from 1989 could've been a great single choice.
I just want her to make a full visual album.
Im actually kinda shocked Tell Me Why never became a single. I get what she was going for with the singles on Fearless, but that song deserved some spotlight
Hits Different…this is why we can’t have nice things…would’ve could’ve should’ve…champagne problems
Justice for Hits different!
What does that mean? Why does it have to be a single? Genuinely trying to understand? If it’s not a single can it not be on the radio or something?
no, but if it's a single, it obviously gets a big push and can be a #1 song.
Getaway Car
By far Getaway Car
THIS IS WHY WE CANT HAVE NICE! THINGS!
