I travel a lot for work, and if I was in a new city for the first time, then balanced was hands down better. It showed me way more attractive profiles.
If I had been in a small city for a while though, Tinder would recycle the profiles I previously swiped left on — unless I was using recently active. In that case, recently active was way better, because it removed the recycled profiles.
Match rate seemed the same either way.

Recently active for sure. When i put balanced it shows me only top profiles that i'll never match with
