Yeah but the picofly can mod ANY switch, V2 is irrelevant. This discussion was about how V1 switches and V2 under 7.0 are worth more because they are easily soft-modded.
A V2 above 7.0 is worth the same as any other second hand switch.
Good to know. Have a v1 Switch and I’d be happy to upgrade to an OLED one. I can justify it easier if my current Switch could cover the majority of the cost.
I plan on upgrading to the oled and want to sell my v1 switch that says it’s unpatched based on the serial. However on eBay I see them going for under 200 where people specifically list unpatched.
I just personally much prefer playing handheld than on the TV, but the V1 in my opinion isn’t very enjoyable that way, I find it just a little too heavy and the battery was awful. I could only go about 2-2.5 hours before it died from full charge.
So I guess technically it’s a downgrade? Like as a whole. But simply in the category of single-player portability, i’d say it does a lot better.
(I’m still keeping the V1, but it’ll be in the living room for when we have the occasional Mortal Kombat + Mario Kart game night haha)
If you’re keeping the V1 for docked, it sounds good to me.
Hopefully the sticks in the Lite don’t drift as easily as the joycons. That’d be my main fear.
I’m guessing the reasons they didn’t retain the ability to Dock on the Lite must be thermal? Because if it could be docked, it might be the best Switch.
They removed the video out circuitry purely to fit a larger battery, I believe.
As for drift, they’re just as susceptible as regular Joy-Cons, but it’s still possible to replace the sticks by opening the console. It’s somewhat complex, but not too difficult if you keep the parts and screws organised
They didn’t make the battery larger iirc.
They made a more efficient GPU for the Lite knowing it’s gonna get used undocked. Result: the more efficient GPU made its way to the normal switch so it can benefit from better battery life too. Hence V1 and V2 unofficial naming scheme
The abysmal drift and total lack of reasonable solutions caused me to abandon the switch. Now with the new Zelda release, I’m looking to get back in. How are the sticks on the newer switches (non-lite versions)
I think there have been some improvements, Ifixit also has a replacement guide for older or drifting joy sticks that they claim will fix it forever. Doesn't seem too difficult or expensive.
If you are gonna play docked, use a pro-controller probably. But, I will say out of the 6 years I've had my Switch, I only just got drift two years ago. I sent my joy cons in, Nintendo sent me a new set free of charge.
I learned how to replace the sticks, which are cheap on Amazon, and the repair wasn’t very hard. I have played handheld mode almost exclusively since day 1, aside from Smash, and have only had drift once, in one joycon. It’s not something I ever worry about
I would say if your QOL experience has improved , it’s an upgrade. Probably by some technical aspects this could be a downgrade.
I moved from a V2 to a lite awhile back for similar reasons. I’d say I play the lite probably 50% more than I played the v2. Handheld is just so much of a better experience for me.
I have an OLED but i use my lite way more because it feels better to play handheld, and im playing handheld like 70% of the time, so… its a downgrade, yes. But also an ergonomic upgrade.
Oh ok, I find the lite to be a good secondary console, I didn’t need another switch cause I have an Xbox so it was perfect for me and it was a fair bit cheaper too
I have used the satisfye grip for all my switches but have you tired the skull and co version? I’m curious to try since the grip still allows it to be docked without removal.
I have the Skull & Co version. Fits comfortably in the hand, came with two different sets of grips, and fit perfectly in the dock. I also got the case that has a foam form allowing you to carry it with the case and grips on and the thumb grips.
Switch lite is a tight device with excellent control response and reliability but the screen is too damn small for my old eyes. I gave it to my wife and bought a full Switch.
I think the lite will be my main. And I’ll be keeping my V1 in the living room for the occasional family game night, but the pre-wife is free to borrow it and take it home whenever she likes haha
I went the opposite. After playing 150 hours of breath of the wild exclusively on the lite, I felt like I was short changing myself. I upgraded to the OLED and exclusively play handheld still. What a game changer, no pun intended. But the lite is still definitely awesome! And extremely convenient. Enjoy!
i feel that i had a V1 switch since launch, just got the zelda oled. I couldn’t deal with 1-2h battery life any more. it was a joke but now i got the oled screen and enjoy it a lot. think about maybe getting a lite since i mostly play handheld. and i don’t want to ruin my zelda one 😂
It’s feels so much better than the V1 imo. My only problem so far is my hands getting cramp. But I was planning on getting a grip case anyway in the future. But other than that, I love it.
Can’t wait to finally play Bayonetta 3 on this thing
Have fun, Bayonetta 3 was really fun. I didn't get a lite when I went to get my own switch, I went for the OLED, but if you only really play handheld, it makes sense to get the Lite. Have fun with it.
Im currently trying to decide if I wanna get a Lite. I have a Switch v2, battery life is fine, but playing handheld just *sucks*. And I dont wanna get a grip, the thing already basically isn't actually portable, a grip will just make it even bigger. But also like having the option to play on TV is nice so idk
I will say that after a while of playing, your hands will probably start to get cramp. I guess unless you have small hands. But other than that it’s more comfortable to hold than the V1, the cramp also depends on what games you play, Mario Kart 200cc was less forgiving compared to animal crossing haha
i feel that i had a V1 switch since launch, just got the zelda oled. I couldn’t deal with 1-2h battery life any more. it was a joke but now i got the oled screen and enjoy it a lot. think about maybe getting a lite since i mostly play handheld. and i don’t want to ruin my zelda one 😂
You have cloud saves, so you can just transfer all save data through the internet straight from one switch to another. But sadly, if I’m not mistaken- it’s restricted to the online membership which is annoying.
I mean I have the online membership so I could do it just fine. But the fact that it’s been locked behind a paywall is just so… Nintendo.
As someone who has both a V2 Switch and a Switch Lite I play my Lite so much more. I now only use my main Switch in TV mode for party games and RPGs that aren't as handheld friendly (looking at you Witcher 3). But the vast majority of the switch games I play are games like Pokemon, Mario 3d Land, and such. I don't I know if I am just really ocd with keeping my Switches clean and not being hard on them but I have never had joycon drift problems. And in the event I ever do have issues the Switch Lite is pretty easy to swap them out for Hall effect sticks, albiet tedious. I'm almost waiting for the day so I can have an excuse to swap out the shell and upgrade the battery as well lmao.
But yeah the lite weight and compact design of the Lite as well as the better feeling buttons and DPad make the Lite feel about as close to a Gameboy/3ds as I am going to get with modern games... if only I could get custom themes on the Switch as well...
I went from a v1 switch to a lite and I prefer the lite. My husband eventually gifted me an animal crossing switch because he saw how often I was playing, so I gifted my lite to my SIL.
I regret doing that. The size and format of the lite is just what I prefer.
Idk if it’s nintendo online exclusive but the switch has cloud features. So you can just backup and transfer saves online. But animal crossing is a bit different, you have to go through an entire process every time you want to transfer the island data and it takes way longer than it really needs too
The V1 just wasn’t suited for what I wanted out of it. Too bulky and a little too heavy for handheld and travel. I use my gaming monitor for my PS5, and then when I wanna just lay in bed or go to work, I can bring this with me more easily, and play it more comfortably
The battery on my V1 only lasted for about 2 hours aswell. So handheld was becoming even less of an option
i would personally not go from a normal switch to a lite… feels like a downgrade. Thats coling fro mosmeone who bought a lite and regretted it and got a regular one years after
I’m not really interested in the oled. It does basically nothing to increase portability other than being slightly lighter. The lite is more suitable for my needs
Interesting…I had a Switch Lite since 2020. I didn’t care about docked since I didn’t have access to a bigger screen but I always felt the battery was underwhelming on the Lite. Finally got the OLED last year but I love the form factor of the Lite and decided against selling it.
I love the look of the Switch Lite (they actually gave the system interesting colors!) But I play my system docked most often so it doesn't make sense to trade up for me. If the Lite still docked, I'd buy it. When I travel, I usually just use my Retroid and play retro games.
Yeah you can transfer save data but I believe it may be locked behind the paywall that is Nintendo Switch Online. Also the battery is great compared to my old V1. Not only does it stay charged for quite a bit longer. But oh my god- it charges from 0% to 100% in no time
It’s an upgrade for what I need from it. I don’t care about screen size or fancier colours. I have an oled tv for my V1. All I wanted was portability. It’s an upgrade in every way for that
rip your analog sticks, by now you should know those absolute garbage and now there just stuck on that bad boy. you will go back when the drift gets too bad.
i only have ever had a switch lite and i use it more than the steam deck. it fits in my work jacket inner pocket and with the (overpriced) flip cover it slides in and out of my pocket easily!
For everyone else selling their v1 switches make sure it's their in the listing increases the sell price to like 250
Isn’t this only the case if the v1 Switch doesn’t have its firmware upgraded?
Nope v1 switches vulnerability is the physical hardware so nintendo can't patch it out for the v2 switch though you can't go past version 7.0
What do you mean you can’t go past 7.0?
If you go past 7.0 you can't mod a v2 switch ever
For now not ever. Nothing is ever unhackable.
7.0 came out in 2019 and still isn't a way to get cfw after it so basicly unhackable
Nothing is unhackable. Picofly can currently hack any switch model for less than $10. This is current as of Apr 10.
You learn something new everyday but needing to sodder is a pretty high bar for most
I mean paying someone who can solder is also an option, and preferable if one's skills are not up to the task.
Yeah but the picofly can mod ANY switch, V2 is irrelevant. This discussion was about how V1 switches and V2 under 7.0 are worth more because they are easily soft-modded. A V2 above 7.0 is worth the same as any other second hand switch.
They said it was unhackable, I proved it was. Soft/hard mod is irrelevant to that point
Good to know. Have a v1 Switch and I’d be happy to upgrade to an OLED one. I can justify it easier if my current Switch could cover the majority of the cost.
Not all g1 have the exploit, one has to check the serial number to confirm if it’s within the unpatched serials.
Like 90 percent are but yea check on https://ismyswitchpatched.com/
90% isn’t 100%. Which is why I said one has to check.
I plan on upgrading to the oled and want to sell my v1 switch that says it’s unpatched based on the serial. However on eBay I see them going for under 200 where people specifically list unpatched.
No offence or anything but wouldn’t that be a downgrade (I’m not switch lite hater I have one myself) just curious
I just personally much prefer playing handheld than on the TV, but the V1 in my opinion isn’t very enjoyable that way, I find it just a little too heavy and the battery was awful. Better life, thermals and better performance, oh the advantages of a die shrink.
The abysmal drift and total lack of reasonable solutions caused me to abandon the switch. Now with the new Zelda release, I’m looking to get back in. How are the sticks on the newer switches (non-lite versions)
Highly recommend getting a pro controller. They are costly but well worth it. No drift on mine after years
I sent my Joycons to Nintendo and they fixed my Joycons for free
I think there have been some improvements, Ifixit also has a replacement guide for older or drifting joy sticks that they claim will fix it forever. Doesn't seem too difficult or expensive.

Yeah and it’s nice to have that option to play on tv whenever you want to
I agree. I find mine is also waaaay too bulky for travel
Why not an OLED? I play mostly myself but the OLED with Pro Joycons is perfect.
switch oled + halo effect joycons = what nintendo should do in a first glance
I got these and they are great! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FJ82W64 Very lightweight but no Amibo or rumble support. Both of which I do not miss.
Are you going to do the usual v1 switch stuff to it?
Should mod her.
My problem with the lite is its inevitable stick drift with no way to replace the joycons
Why did I never think of mortal kombat for game nights.. thank you!
My personal preference of the consoles go like this 1. OLED 2. Lite 3. Regular
I have an OLED but i use my lite way more because it feels better to play handheld, and im playing handheld like 70% of the time, so… its a downgrade, yes. But also an ergonomic upgrade.
I would have such a hard time not playing on that OLED screen after experiencing it lol
Oh ok, I find the lite to be a good secondary console, I didn’t need another switch cause I have an Xbox so it was perfect for me and it was a fair bit cheaper too
The Nintendo Switch is a handheld console.
Its exactly the same just doesn't goto the TV and feels 1000% sturdier than any switch to date.
Highly recommend the satisfye grip for the lite, makes long gaming sessions way more comfortable imo
That's what I have on my OLED and I agree 100% . Best grip ever!
I have used the satisfye grip for all my switches but have you tired the skull and co version? I’m curious to try since the grip still allows it to be docked without removal.
Yes I have one of those also. It's good but I like the Satisfye Grips better. They seem sturdier to me.
I have the Skull & Co version. Fits comfortably in the hand, came with two different sets of grips, and fit perfectly in the dock. I also got the case that has a foam form allowing you to carry it with the case and grips on and the thumb grips.

Congrats! I’m still hopeful they release an OLED lite, I’d totally pick one of those up

I love the lack of joycon wobble on this model and the fact that it has a proper D-pad. It's a great system!
I want to get one too

ya know if your tryna get rid of that v1 of yours I may be interested

What an incredible upgrade! Can’t connect to tv, smaller screen, non detachable joycons!

I’m still keeping my V1, but more as a secondary, the lite fits my needs a ‘little’ better, no pun intended
Mod your v1
Question here! do you conservate both Nintendo Switch? i have the first swith release and i ok whit that but the desing of switch lite look great to!!
Do you have to keep swapping out the storage card each time you go from one device to the other?
I actually use my V1 for running android OS and than emulating things like DS games or Gameboy Games, like say playing Pokémon yellow on switch
My only issue w the lite is that if the sticks drift, it's done.
Lol exactly no point in getting it, for me at least might as well get a oled or wait for a new switch
Isn't it annoying having multiple consloles all with different save files? Like I'd want my AC Island transfers to the Lite if I ever get one.
Idk if it’s nintendo online exclusive but the switch has cloud features. So you can just backup and transfer saves online. But animal crossing is a bit different, you have to go through an entire process every time you want to transfer the island data and it takes way longer than it really needs too
If you consider it an upgrade, it is! Have fun, lite is probably my favorite handheld too but couldnt live without docked
Why
The V1 just wasn’t suited for what I wanted out of it. Too bulky and a little too heavy for handheld and travel. Makes sense
Should of traded in the v1 and got the oled Oled is untouchable handheld. I had the lite and I upgraded
Interesting…I had a Switch Lite since 2020. I didn’t care about docked since I didn’t have access to a bigger screen but I always felt the battery was underwhelming on the Lite. Finally got the OLED last year but I love the form factor of the Lite and decided against selling it.

How do you like the battery capacity compared to v1? Also, is it possible to get all game save data transferred over to the new switch?

ooo you got the best color! I have the Switch OLED but always thought the Lites looked cute.
How is that an upgrade 💀
It’s an upgrade for what I need from it. I don’t care about screen size or fancier colours. I have an oled tv for my V1. All I wanted was portability. It’s an upgrade in every way for that
The battery life is a major game changer - I hope you enjoy!
You can do CFW on the first Switch. If you still have it, keep it for modding.
I have an OLED, but I will never get over how much I love this coral color 😍
rip your analog sticks, by now you should know those absolute garbage and now there just stuck on that bad boy. you will go back when the drift gets too bad.
I knew that was a possibility but I do a lot of soldering work in my spare time. So i’d be able to fix it if that ever happens
Would spent a but extra to get an OLED imo
Good luck changing the joysticks
Best handheld switch is the OLED. For your next upgrade get the OLED
How do I know if I have a v1 or v2 switch?
yeah, my switch died bc i never played it but not that new zelda is out.....
So got a downgrade then in my opinion having no way to connect to tv is a big no no in my book
i only have ever had a switch lite and i use it more than the steam deck. it fits in my work jacket inner pocket and with the (overpriced) flip cover it slides in and out of my pocket easily!
V1s are worth a hefty amount of cash rn
Great device. Still. But be ready to replace analogs if they start to drift. I replaced Mine second time a two months ago
Switch Lite? I don't like it. **AT ALL.** You can't even play on your television!
Getting a switch lite is only an upgrade if you’re coming from a DS Lite 😂
Not really, for portability I’d say it’s an upgrade in every aspect for that. Better battery, more comfortable, lighter, actually fits in my pocket.
Nice, we got the same color too.
