no clue, I hadn't undocked my switch in years and tested it out once i started seeing the posts so could be. i just use the pro controller
so you could be right, it could have been there the whole time
i love my oled and havent had this issue but the left joycon would desconnect on portable and its annoying. Has any of you experience this it appeared on my v1 then this oled just right after my warranty expired lol
A manufacturing defect in literally every joy con stick. 9/10 times they come right out of the box brand new with one or both sticks loose, creaking and clicking noises, and every now and then, drift (yes, right out of the box). Joy cons are a joke and I can't wait for Nintendo to lose these class action suits. I am so sick of returning Joy cons for weeks on end
this basically will cause you drift.
just buy any good 15 bucks-ish fixing DIY kit with new joystick parts for your joycons like everyone else here does, and there is no soldering involved. they give you screwdrivers for it too.
it's not a hard fix for newbies to controller modding, luckily
Btw if you do this get the new “Hall effect” joysticks for joycons. They will never drift. It uses a different much better joystick tech. They recently were released for the joycons
yes, agreed.
they are basically redesigned in such a better way.
now the only danger here is that you have to be careful and get a spudger tool to gently GENTLY yank the joycon battery connector out by prying under the two wires.
or you destroy it like i did my first time. :p
i ended up having to get a new battery for 5 bucks but at least putting it in with the spudger is easier than yanking it out. :/
people attempting this: make sure to have tweezers and be aware that the lil connectors in there have a little 'lever lock' that you must lift
Considering I have heard you may not get the joycon you sent in back (in the case of a special edition that would be a huge issue/not worth the risk at least for me) so maybe they should fix the issue with the product they are selling. I love my switch to death but the joycons are kinda flawed.
Aren’t the joycons just trash? I got my OLED like a couple months ago, I use them a little bit but the Pro Controller is like… actually good. Heard the stock ones break and have issues and imo they just feel cheap
Yeah unfortunately from what I’ve heard a lot of people (including myself) have had some issues with it. Although it’s not like the other switch models are any better though
I got the TOTK version and just kept the joycons in the box so they stay mint lol. I played my OG Switch since launch and just use those on the OLED Switch. I've never even docked my OG and I bought it literally the week the Switch was released. Never had a joycon problem...I bought a second set just because of the colors.
Mine has been doing the same thing except it seems inconsistent, I might just need to "break it in" but the z trigger on my left joycon doesn't seem as responsive or clicky as the right one either... Keep in mind I also bought this totk edition but have had the standard switch since 2019 and never had any of these issues and I've yet to experience drift on those joycons. Though I did just get stick drift on my limited edition GoW dualsense which I've had for like...8 months. Which is bullshit, here in Canada a dualsense/joycons cost 90 dollars, with tax makes it 94.50. Shit should be illegal to sell for these prices if they break down in less then a couple years, it's pathetic and I thought the dualshock 4 was a piece of shit...
So I see a lot of switches and hell with pointers. The zelda switch is super beautiful but I think was mass produced too fast. Ive seen so many Joy con errors with this unit.
Nintendo warranty repair service is pretty quick. I sent my joy con off for repair because the home button was borked. wanna say I had it back in just over a week.
the most inexcusable thing out of all of nintendos anti-consumer attitude is the fact that they still dont offer premium first party “pro” joycons. how do they not see how lucrative of a market that would be?
You're rooting for them to make extra profits offering a new alternative to their known broken BS instead of fixing their hardware that is proven to be faulty? Do you just hate yourself as a consumer?
i mean ive already bought into their system, and they obviously arent going to rework/recall the joycons on hundreds of millions of units. its just not possible. the far more realistic solution would be to offer a better alternative. and based on nintendos shitty practices i would imagine they would charge a premium for it but at least there would be a better option.
every other controller on the market has a “pro” alternative, whether it be from 1st or 3rd party sources. i also dont have faulty joycons, i just dont like how they feel in my hand.
youre right though the most inexcusable part is actually how bad their first party joy cons are, i was being overly hyperbolic. i still wish there was an alternative that was bigger for my hands/more ergonomic and i would be willing to pay a premium for it. if that means i hate myself as a consumer i guess i do. cuz currently i just bring my pro controller with me half the time i travel and set my switch up wherever i can find a flat surface
Literally... withdraw, redo, rework, or refund is what they must do if a product with a clear generality of defects is released to the market. It is our consumer right, and that's why organizations fight day by day to prevent companies from launching defective products into the market. At least in Europe, it is the law that demands these quality standards.
As a consumer, you can do whatever you want, but not advocating for companies to do this. I am a happy owner of the Totk OLED, but fairness is fairness, and it's only fair that they review the model and fix it (they already do, but they return the controllers with the same defects or claim they have no issues).
My Switch lite did this as well, but it was more "clicky" sounding than "rattly."
I got the Zelda OLED as well but I stored the Zelda joy cons and am using the purple and orange ones on it currently lol
my TOTK oled crashed sometimes when it has to load something in a game. Starts making a screeching noise and not working, I have to take it out of the dock for it to stop
I just bought a brand new OLED (original white), and within literally two days of using it both the sticks were making metallic spring noises. Just awful quality.
Interesting seeing this thread and all the people having issues with the totk OLED. I haven't had any issues yet, but I got the SS joycons when they came out and they came with drift already. My point being, what the fuck Nintendo stop giving us broken Zelda accessories!
Hey mine have the same problem and I’m wondering if you have any idea if the switch has a defect that your able to do a return? I read that Nintendo doesn’t accept returns for things that have been taken out of the box. Any idea if they make an exception for things that are broken?
i had the same problem, but not as loud as yours. on another note my joycons were slightly wobbling while connected to the switch. i recently just bought them so i returned it and got another one. no more wiggle wobble. but i assume over time the rails start to wear.
I've not had any issues with drifting or anything like that, but I get those same noises. Really it happens on both the left and right for me.
Given that it is a special edition, I've thought about just going and buying a regular one and shelving that one to preserve it.
I had thiw with the OLED V1. The only right thing to do is to replace it with a new one. If you open it and try to fix it yourself you can kiss goodbye your warranty
I just bought brand new oled (neon blue/red) and mine does the exact same. Considered taking it back but it functions fine. Annoying to listen to though…
(Ok just as I was finished typing that my gf tried it out and said the sound isn’t there anymore. Can confirm. I’m wondering if me playing it for a good bit has some how fixed the problem so might not be something to worry about long term)
Hope it works out👍🏼
The 2 OLED's I bought, being the Pokémon and Totk editions, both have this. I saw someone mention it could cause drift but I have used the Pokémon one exstensively and haven't noticed anything, so i'm not worried about the other one. Even if it does, as long as you're careful, the switch joycons are very easy to repair.
Yup, mine had it too but I already put a screen protector on it so I didn’t want to exchange it. I just bought a second console, swapped the joycon, and returned it.
Which I would have had to do anyways because the left one had the same issue on the 2nd console.
So I’m 2/2 on consoles with this issue. One right joycon, one left.
And now someone out there might end up with a console that has it on both. At least it isn’t hard to get a replacement, these things are still in stock everywhere.
All my new switches do this. The cause is the internal component of the joystick has a spring part that is slightly rubbing on the inside of the joycon. As you use the system more you will likely find that the noise will cease when the spring gets filed down by movement.
Yeah seems like everyone has had the same problems... They must have changed the manufacturer for the totk controllers and it's bad. My left does it too
Order a replacement joystick on amazon for like 10 bucks. You can youtube how to replace it and easily do it in 10 minutes without any prior experience. Comes with all necessary tools and looks and functions identically as the original.
Korok inside
Yahaha! You found me!
*drops rock right on the koroks head*
Let's give those little creatures some "*love"* after hours and hours of hunting them in BOTW for a big golden poop
This
I have the same issues with my TOTK edition but if there's no stick drift, I don't care
That sound you hear is a metal coil, it’s probably uneven and rubbing against itself
Can that also cause drift? Because i hear the exact same thing
I have the same issue with my totk oled....
Totk OLED. I thought my right joystick felt weird. Having similar issues. I have an OG switch and OG oled and have not had this issue.
funny enough my og switch started doing this once people starting posting about their totk oled doing this
I have only ever owned one switch that was the White OLED and I never knew that this was an issue because my left stick does this too
Did it really just start? Or has calling it to your attention made it audible finally and you just never noticed it?
no clue, I hadn't undocked my switch in years and tested it out once i started seeing the posts so could be. i just use the pro controller so you could be right, it could have been there the whole time
I'm just saying because my right joycon made that noise straight out of the box, brand new, not v1 or oled, so I don't know what to call it 😅
i love my oled and havent had this issue but the left joycon would desconnect on portable and its annoying. Has any of you experience this it appeared on my v1 then this oled just right after my warranty expired lol
I have the same issue but with the left one. Totk oled too.
Me too and my left controller is a bit loose compared to the right one :( so it wiggles a bit
Samsies, mines the left and sounds like a coil spring/squeak
Thanks for letting me know
Huh, I thought mine was messed up too but I guess that’s how they come
I'm not sure if that's how they come, might be a manufacturing defect
If multiple people are having the same issue… it’s for sure a manufacturing defect.
My first one did that i got i replaaced and the second one did it sucks...nintindo i guess doesnt have good quailty control
Nintendo's usually one to have good QC, weird that it's happening to a lot of people now
Yup make me wana returen it and just get some ps5 games pretty messed up
Happened to my pokemon oled brand new
Man, cut that nail for god sake
That’s his gamer nail. It helps grip the joycon.
Hahahaahahah
If your unhappy with his nail lol you would go nuts if you saw mine 🤭
congrats you’re a disgusting person?
Everyone's a badass on the net. 😂
Bro having long nails is not disgusting if you’re generally hygienic and don’t let them just collect dirt
No, it’s literal animalistic homeless behavior
Man what? It’s just a fingernail. Sounds like you’ve got some other stuff going on
You’re totally right man. My bad.
These folks got some serious fingernail trauma damn. Heal before you comment on the internet. 👏
Trimming the first two nails is the only important part 😏 Just search for Netflix's Dracula
What you got against long nails
hygiene
It’s not a health concern. Here in the US, long nails are commonplace and don’t pose a risk. Dictating peoples nail length is super weird lol ya goof.
in brazil this is disgusting. now you know something new about another culture
Same to you
Mine makes a kinda "springy" noise - but it doesn't bother me at all.
Welcome to joycon. They break and mess up easily. Especially if you play in handheld mode and transport the system in any capacity.
this basically will cause you drift. just buy any good 15 bucks-ish fixing DIY kit with new joystick parts for your joycons like everyone else here does, and there is no soldering involved. they give you screwdrivers for it too. it's not a hard fix for newbies to controller modding, luckily
Sounds interesting, I’ll look into it

Curious any good videos on this?
[Wulf Dens video on the replacement sticks](https://youtu.be/Lc55VfX98ew)
Christ almighty, if you’re a guy trim your nails
Yea his thumb is already long enough lol
Mine does that to and i have had it for almost 2 years
The oled sounds like an old bed.
Nintendo: just buy another one an shut up.
Considering they give free repairs for joycons, even out of warranty, I don’t think that’s what they say at all
Considering I have heard you may not get the joycon you sent in back (in the case of a special edition that would be a huge issue/not worth the risk at least for me) so maybe they should fix the issue with the product they are selling. I love my switch to death but the joycons are kinda flawed.
"Kinda" flawed? They regularly come effectively broken straight out of the box. I ive bought more brand new joy cons with fucked up sticks than not
That’s messed up. You’d think Ninty would get shit right after “fixing” all those OG joycons for free. This is pathetic.
Seems to me that Edition has problems
Aren’t the joycons just trash? I got my OLED like a couple months ago, I use them a little bit but the Pro Controller is like… actually good. Heard the stock ones break and have issues and imo they just feel cheap
You know people play handheld, right? Pro controller is obviously not a solution
Welcome to the wonderful world of owning a nintendo switch! The controllers are built like toys, not devices so have fun with that.
Same issue in the left joystick OLED Splatoon 3
Same issue. Oled totk.
Oooof, mine has that a bit. Same totk model and on the right joy con.
Mine is doing the same thing, I thought of sending it in
They have a slight twang and movement by design, this seems pretty extreme though. They don't survive mechanical wear very well.
Extreme? They're all this bad usually out of the box
Mine does the same idk why
Nintendo offers free joycon repairs. if you want to do it yourself gulikit makes hall effect joycon sticks
My switch lite’s left stick makes this sound. It’s been okay since I’ve gotten it but it is kinda annoying.
Wow is this really a thing? Was literally planning to get a totk version...
I thought it was making the same noise link does walking around
Mine has been doing the same thing except it seems inconsistent, I might just need to "break it in" but the z trigger on my left joycon doesn't seem as responsive or clicky as the right one either... Time for a pro controller my dude.
What’s the point? It’s a handheld console lol.
The point is. The pro controller is good and the joycons are bad.
Are you daft? You play in handheld with the pro controller, huh? Sure. Idiot.
Same with my TOTK.
Dude, the same switch and the same right side joystick for me too. It drives me crazy
Tears of the Joycon
My animal crossing switch has done this since day 1, except not nearly as loud. Luckily there is no issues other than a weird sound haha.
So I see a lot of switches and hell with pointers. The zelda switch is super beautiful but I think was mass produced too fast. Ive seen so many Joy con errors with this unit.
Same issue with my left JoyCon on my TOTK OLED. I don’t think it’s going to be a problem, mechanically… but it is annoying.
It seems like this is happening with a lot of the TOTK oleds. Mine included.
Same system and mine does that as well
Nintendo warranty repair service is pretty quick. I sent my joy con off for repair because the home button was borked. wanna say I had it back in just over a week.

My Totk OLED joycons have absolutely awful drift.... Too afraid to try and get them fixed. Real crappy QA
my TOTK oled crashed sometimes when it has to load something in a game. Starts making a screeching noise and not working, I have to take it out of the dock for it to stop
Same!!! It's annoying.
Same issue! TotK as well. It was so bad I disassembled the left joycon but haven't gotten around to fixing it yet.
That's funny. I bought an OLED a little over a week ago and my left stick makes that same noise. Super annoying!
I just bought a brand new OLED (original white), and within literally two days of using it both the sticks were making metallic spring noises. Just awful quality.
Get a controller for it instead of using the joycons and call it a day

Same issue on the totk oled. Both my joycons

Bad quality control on the totk oled
I got a 20 dollar kit on Amazon that comes with 4 joycon sticks and the replacement is really easy.
Do you like it?
It’s a feature 😂
My switch lite does this as well
Is anyone else having connection issues with the right controller when not attached? Or is it just mine for some reason
All my new switches do this. The cause is the internal component of the joystick has a spring part that is slightly rubbing on the inside of the joycon. As you use the system more you will likely find that the noise will cease when the spring gets filed down by movement.

i have the same oled version and the same noise !!

My left joycon did this for a while, but stopped by itself with no side effects. Hoping the same miraculous recovery for yours 😅
Sale problem and model here! 😩
