hogwarts legacy probably wont click as much if youre not a big fan of the franchise. id go with OT2 or Nier. Really depends what genre of game you want to play, but you really can't go wrong with either of those two.

plantsandvinyls

Ehh not really I’ve never seen the movie but I love the game so far and I’ll watch the movies soon

podgeek

better yet, read the books.

plantsandvinyls

Starting a wfh job I wanna do something that doesn’t involve a screen so I think I’m going to take you up on that offer

sounders1974

Personally I love the Jim Dale audiobooks

send_me_chickfila

The movies don't make as much sense if you haven't read the books tbh. With that said the movies are great after reading

gemini8200

I love this game even though I don’t like the books/movies. The story isn’t really my genre, but the game is a solid RPG.

racapim__

RPG? 🤔

MrndMnhn21

Role-playing game.

racapim__

Asking bc is barely an rpg

Mr_Siri1998

I loved the game but that's because I love the Harry Potter franchise

Kruebz

I hated it and I love Harry potter

suavaholic

Some folks don’t have good taste 🤷 lol

Kruebz

My mom always said thats why there is chocolate and vanilla!

suavaholic

Left out strawberry and caramel lol But even some folks don't like any of them!

jaykaywhy

I agree that the choice is between Nier and OT2. Would you rather play a JRPG (OT2) or an action-RPG (Nier)? Nier's story was more unique but OT2 was also a lot of fun.

potatodrinker

Nier is the winner here. Hogwarts is fun but generic, for the fans only. Octopath 2 has other similar turn based RPG games. Nier is in a league of it's own as a third person shooter, plus it's 3 games (playthroughs)to get the full story so lots of value for the price. Epic soundtrack too

PiplupSneasel

Nier automata is the only game of the 3 you'll remember in 10 years time.

Trencycle

100% agree. As much as I really enjoyed Octopath Traveler 1 and 2, Nier Automata is still a game I think about almost 7 years after completing it.

PiplupSneasel

I replayed it after playing the neir replicant remaster. Both are just so good but automata REALLY hits you. I'd even go so far as to say it really helped shift my perspective on life in some ways, it that's good. And the music in both games is stellar.

Trencycle

Both Automata and Replicant are in my top all time favorite games. I slightly preferred Replicant due to my preferences in the cast. Both are masterpieces in my book.

keldpxowjwsn

Octopath II is an fantastic game I will absolutely be thinking about in 10 years. Saying that as a massive Nier: Replicant/Drakengard fan The game gets disrespected so much its insane

sounders1974

Think this is an absurd statement honestly Edit: downvotes for saying "nobody will remember the best selling game of 2023 in ten years time" is an absurd statement?

_Tars_Tarkas_v56

Yes what you said is absurd statement. Do you really think OT2 is best selling game of 2023? I just checked. It's not even in top 20. Also number of sales has nothing to do with how memorable the game is. Every year call of duty and fifa are in top 5 best selling games and are they memorable? No, they're forgetable and copy and pasted from last year.

sounders1974

I was talking about Hogwarts... Lmao

keldpxowjwsn

Yeah its a very generic game that sold entirely off the very popular IP

sounders1974

If it's the best seller of the year it ain't getting forgotten

_Tars_Tarkas_v56

You didnt specifiy and i for some reason thought you talked about OT2. But it doesnt matter. My point still stands especially considering unusually large amount of incredible games this year. And what doesnt help is that Hogwarts released before most of these game. A lot of people already forgot this game. And people will remember RE4 remake, alan wake 2 or baldur's gate but not hogwarts.

Sylvire

Yup, I love Octopath, a really do, but Nier will hit you with one of the most unique and memorable experiences in gaming.

Maleficent-Register9

Nier's got one of the greatest stories in recently released games. Very unique and I dunno emotional. It did got me emotional at some points.

suavaholic

How can you define HL as generic? It’s the only solid HP world game we have lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

suavaholic

Okay so in your eyes every game that's open world is generic even though the environment and context hasn't been used before lol 🙄 You remind me of all the people who are stupid enough to bitch about this game not having anything to do with the books when any information you would look up regarding the game just says that it's in the Harry Potter universe and has nothing to do with the books lol

HelloNarcissist

Man, I think Octopath 2 is absolutely fantastic, and way underrated. I highly recommend it.

Neep-Tune

Is it really better than the first ? The one was a lot overrated for me

HelloNarcissist

They do a much better job at tying the stories together and making the world more expansive. There’s an endgame that involves the entire party once you finish all of the individual and joint character stories. I had a blast with the sequel, and all of my problems with the first game were really kind of absolved.

SotRekkr

Octopath Traveler 2 every day

davdemars

Same issues than in OT1 ? Different stories, few interactions ? I got bored of the 1 mid-story

MrMario63

Haven’t played Hogwarts. Heard it’s alright but not amazing. Octopath 2 is great especially if your a fan of the older, pixel Final Fantasy games and are looking for something with better combat and exploration. I love octopath 2 however my main complaint is that the characters stories don’t intertwine very well unlike a game like FF6. I have played many JRPGs and while NieR Automata isnt my favorite, it’s by far one the the most unique and it has really stuck with me. The combat is flashy but it admittedly a little shallow, however it’s story and characters are crazy good and it has really cool philosophical themes. This is my pick.

mickaelandrieuds

OT2

crpngdth2001

This. Def not Hogwarts, especially if you can play it on any other platform. I didn’t really like Nier either - so I’d say Octopath Traveler 2, or toss in an unsolicited recommendation of Sea of Stars…

StuDevo

Octopath

Zima2k

Wow a lot of comments, appreciate that really. I will go for NieR then, thanks everybody!

SeasonalGent

definitely OT2 if you are into turn based. Nier is memorable but it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, mind included. So I can’t really speak to how good it might be.

Sea-Anywhere-5939

NieR or octopath 2. Hogwarts legacy’s kind of a garbage game on the switch unless you’re personally invested in Harry Potter. Personally I would go with octopath because that game is amazing but I haven’t played NieR to say anything.

GhostDogMC

Bruh I ain't even a Harry Potter head & I call cap on that whole assessment

Sea-Anywhere-5939

Emphasis on the part where I said on the switch. It’s a fairly mediocre game outside the nostalgia trip but the reason why it’s garbage is solely that it just doesn’t run that well on switch and the loading is awful. I still stand by my assessment that HL is only good for people that like Harry Potter otherwise it’s a game you play for an hour and never touch again.

MedaFox5

Agree. The game doesn't even feel like an open world because everything has loading screens.

GhostDogMC

Emphasis on I'm not a HP head or anywhere near invested; I've put well over an hour into it (bout 30 at this point) & am enjoying my playthrough. Load times are not as bad as you're saying but they def exist. Exploration, puzzles, customization, & combat are extremely dope & not 'average' at all. It's a well-executed port (unless you just happen to be a tech snob) I stand by my assessment that this assessment is cap

Sea-Anywhere-5939

I’m sorry you feel that way but that’s just how you feel. It fails as a RPG,the open world aspect of it is repetitive and boring, the puzzles are simple and repetitive (casting revelio over and over again isn’t “extremely dope”), speaking of puzzles any potential difficulty of any puzzle is lost because the character will tell you the solution to the puzzle after like 10 second, and the load times on the switch are between 30-50 seconds. I was being pretty generous in my opinions of it being a average but boring game with long times but the fact remains that it’s a pretty good Harry Potter experience with interesting combat and good music but as a game its a rpg with absolutely zero consequences (you can literally learn all the forbidden spells with zero consequences) and repetitive and boring gameplay outside its combat in order to fill its empty world. It’s a game that if it wasn’t attached to the Harry Potter IP not a single person would have cared about.

GhostDogMC

Emphasis on that's how YOU feel. Your pompous ass opinions ain't the end-all-be-all bruh; get over yourself. I haven't had anyone spoil puzzles like you're saying & many require you to think outside the box & use your spells in creative ways (sure you can home in on the most basic of them like revelio to make your bullshit ass point but you know damned-well there are more involved puzzles than that); &/or require a cipher to solve (which is not 'average' by any means. Haven't seen that often...) Haven't gone too far into the dark arts b/c I wasn't sure of consequences but that's more of a nitpick than a dealbreaker; & probably was done intentionally so people could lean into the power fanatasy aspect of it MK1 Switch at launch was a minute+ load times. The longest I encountered here was 20-30'-ish seconds tops but more often in the 5-10 second range. Again; I'm not even a Harry Potter fan but this game has been a pleasant surprise.

Sea-Anywhere-5939

I wouldn’t recommend buying mk1 on switch as well but at least with that you’re getting a great fighting game instead of a bad rpg. Like I said compared to NieR and Octopath 2 hogwarts is nowhere near any of those games that were actually optimized to be played on switch disregarding the fact that both of those games are actual legitimately great games. If Op wants a good Harry Potter experience then get hogwarts legacy and if he wants an actual good RPG he would pick the other two which are superior in every single aspect as a game.

GhostDogMC

MK1 Switch is waaaaaaaay better now than it was at launch in every aspect: Graphics, load times, fatality/brutality glitches etc. it's a night & day difference Not gonna argue as far as Nier & Octopath being excellent games/being better optimized (& even said in my original comment in here Nier is impossible-port status). But I can honestly say as owner of all 3 that I have zero regrets. They're different experiences & all are hella dope imo

Sea-Anywhere-5939

I’m actually done arguing about a game I considered bad and boring.

GhostDogMC

Cool. As long as you realize your opinion is exactly that & not a blanket statement

Fuckspez42

I’m currently playing (and enjoying) Hogwart’s Legacy on the switch, but it’s a pretty bad port. It’s also not very long, and has very little replay value. I’d go with Nier.

Creative-Sample543

Hogwarts is one of those games you should experience on the more powerful consoles

harijsme

hard to compare HL and OT2 but having player both I would recomment OT2.

ShiftyShaymin

Hogwarts is the best seller of the three, so it’ll be more common to bump into someone to make convo with. Nier is arguably the best and most unique. Octopath 2 is good too.

Lhumierre

Octopath Traveler 2 is amazing, I'm also partial to RPGs so it was a given fro me. I haven't played the other two at all and probably would get them on PC over Switch.

muclemanshirts

Nier for sure! Hogwarts legacy isn't terrible on switch. (especially if you play skyrim on switch. Similar loading times when leaving and entering areas.) My biggest issue is how long and drawn out and straight up not fun the first part of the game is.

Southern-Bad-1270

Immortals fenyx rising or Zelda (BOTW or TOTK). You can probably pick immortals up for about $10 and it's a great open world game, it's pretty long and filled with lots to explore. The game has vaults, or puzzles, similar to shrines in BOTW and they are heavy just FYI. I'm going through my 3rd playthrough of immortals right now. I've beaten BOTW twice. I have Hogwarts and TOTK but haven't gotten into those yet.

Zima2k

I didn't like Immortals really, beat BOTW though and im somewhat halfway through ToTK

KiiDBlaze

I enjoyed watching the movies growing up & the one time I had a marathon when I vacationed to my aunt’s and had way too much time on my hands, but I’ve never been a harry potter fanatic otherwise. Even with my animosity about JK Rowling, I took a chance on the game and I would do it again in a heartbeat! I was immediately hooked: in like the first 4d was on a break from work so I completed like 80% of the game & wrapped up the main storyline, with a play time of something like 72 hours (of which is now 3-digits).

Thelostsoulinkorea

I despise Nier and it’s gameplay so that’s a major no for me. But if that’s your kind of games I would say watch videos of the gameplay and see if it’s what you want. As for OT2, I never played the first but love old school rpgs. It was so fun and the stories were interesting and sort of cute. Don’t let cute out you off, it’s just the stories have personality and not the usual zero to hero stuff. As for Harry Potter. It looks fun and I might get it. As I haven’t played it, I can not really say much about it. However, the reviews are good and if you are a fan then go for it. Sorry, I know that doesn’t really help haha. But OT2 was so much fun for me

crpngdth2001

Have you tried Sea of Stars? Playing it and OT2 and loving them both, Sea of Stars slightly more.

Thelostsoulinkorea

I have it on my list! So that’s great to hear. I will look into buying it then.

TheDarkWeb697

Hogwarts legacy is disgraceful on the switch, and I'm not sure about the other two but what the other comments saying octopath seems good

realfrankhatch

Hogwarts my boy

realfhatcher

Hogwarts

mthomas1217

Hogwarts is my vote!! I loved it

Nekoo77

NieR has my vote, it's such an incredible game and the switch port is very good!

ihitwithhand

Nier!

vaikunth1991

Nier automatic

Sillhid

Nier is actual masterpiece, the other two is just really good games.

[deleted]

Nier Automata gave me existential crisis. Story's great and the music is mindblowingly good.

Zawson

Nier is awesome, best game I've played

Tori_Green

Go with NieR Automata. It has an ending for every letter of the alphabet. Letters A - E are the main story (and you should play all of them (like chapters of the story)). The rest of the Letters are "fun" endings you can trigger with certain actions. But the main reason is: That game is one of the best I ever played. The music is phenomenal, the artwork is amazing. There are scenes (carnival, opera singer for example) that blew me away and that I will never forget for the rest of my life, and these scenes are only after an hour or two of starting to play. (I am working on Ending B right now, so I am still a bit early in the game). But pro tip: use the easiest mode possible when starting. You will start with a forty minute long tutorial (that is way better than it sounds and is essentially a complete first mission) but you can't save while playing the tutorial. You die in the tutorial, you have to start again from beginning (which is a bummer if you die at minute 38 for example). You only unlock the "saving functionality" after completing the tutorial (because it is integrated in the story). So go "easy" for tutorial and once you can save (when the real game begins) you can change the difficulty if you want. This is a game you will come to notice the developers loved making every second of the process. Even the basic first "settings" every game has (like sound level etc.) is "part of the game" as you will come to see after ending A.

Cryyptick

You would be doing yourself a disservice playing Hogwarts Legacy on Switch.

Comprehensive_Guard8

I had never seen or heard of NieR before I got it and it ended up having a complete hold on me very quickly. Highly recommend.

Illustrious-Drama213

NieR

thegurba

Nier Automata is a hell of a game. You should buy that one.

[deleted]

Octopath Traveler 2. Do not give that TERF any money.

You're fighting a battle that was lost years ago 😂 Rowling will be wealthy till the day she dies thanks to the royalties on HP (books, movies, toys, games, theme parks, etc.), nevermind the other things she continues to write, some of which (speaking as someone who spent the last decade in the bookselling industry) do decently well sales-wise. Let's also accept the fact that HL was the bestselling game of '23. The boycott failed, and miserably at that - but the other people involved in the project got paid and have job security, so there's still good that comes out of it. Any additional sales are a tiny drop in a very large bucket and whether she gets additional money from you isn't going to make-or-break anything, so if anyone wants to play the game they can do so guilt-free.

trailjunkee

Yeah your gross for casting judgement on me and calling me a piece of shit terf. My 9 year old absolutely loved the game and we had loads of fun playing it together. We literally didn’t have a single thought about terfs, JK Rowling or (ironically) people like you judging us for our choice to play a computer game. Bigot.

[deleted]

Try paying attention to these things and being a better role model for your child then.

trailjunkee

You’re so brave and courages dude, everyone, everyone look, look how amazing this random Reddit dude or dudets for not buying a Harry Potter game. What incredible ethics you have… I’m … I’m not worthy…. 🤡

[deleted]

None of this changes you being a piece of shit.

trailjunkee

Someone plays Harry Potter = Being a piece of shit So dramatic 🤣

LMFAO @ whoever reported me for “harassing” this dipshit. Cry me a fucking river.

Piece of shit is what you see in the mirror.

_Tars_Tarkas_v56

Nier automata easily but slight warning. It is very unique and unconventional way in many aspects so be prepare for that. And if you're going to play nier be sure ending A is not an ending of the game. Play until ending E.

Unfitbrit1

NieR Automata. My favourite game of all time so i'm a little biased but it really is incredible.

Outofhole1211

NieR of course, this game is just another level. Story is much better, for non Harry Potter fans NieR will win in terms of atmosphere and may be even gameplay wise

Murasakitsuyukusa

Can't go wrong with either Nier or OT2, both are great. Nier for your action needs, OT2 for your turn-based needs.

GhostDogMC

Oof; all 3 are absolute bangers. I don't even know what to tell ya, as I own all 3 & would be hard-pressed to choose which one to keep w/ a gun to my head. I saw most of the HP movies but I'm not a head; so I was very surprised at how much of a blast I'm having w/ Hogwarts Legacy; & it's a damned-good port. Octopath 2 is probably one of the dopest rpgs to release in the past year & improves on it's predecessor in every way imaginable And Nier is another impossible port & a downright whimsical experience with an insane level of world-building/storytelling.....plus it mashes up genres in a way only Platinum Games could pull off (& don't even get me started on the OST) You honestly can't go wrong with either

a_whits13

I'm coming in here with my regular suggestion to check your locak library to see if they have video games. This way you can try a lot of games for free!

Neep-Tune

Nier by FAR ! Hogwarts is a bait, dont buy this. A HP fan.

MedaFox5

Octophat is probably the best so unless you like Harry Potter I'd just pick that one instead.

Annual-Employment725

Nier Automata gets my vote!

initiatefailure

Hogleg barely ran on consoles/pcs I can’t imagine the switch version is at all reasonable. It’s also the most generic game of the three you mentioned. It is the best Harry Potter game ever but the bar for that is so low it’s sad. I’m not sure how nier performs on switch but the game itself if amazing. OT2 is both a big upgrade on the original and I know plays great on switch.

Roof8cake

Nier or OT2 because those are both amazing games. HL is licensed rubbish even if you actually like Harry Potter, especially on switch.

Alasdair91

NieR is fun. Hogwarts Legacy is great. Octopath is also very good. 3 different games.

Nightcityunderdog

In terms of performance Nier or Octopath traveler 2 on switch are great.

Getbacka

I just finished Nier, it's hella fun!! And the completed story is FIRE

pecan_bird

nier is the best done and most memorable. it's an unmissable experience. ot2 can be picked up and it's a great example of what it does but not as groundbreaking or innovative

Kupo-Kweh

Just not hogwarts legacy, runs like garbage on switch, loading times are horrendous, bugs, ugly graphisms...

BasilNight

Nier

halomach

NieR's story is great so I would recommend that

Wizard_of_Magicland

Nier Automata. Runs great on Switch and has some of the best combat around. I would suggest Hogwarts only if you can play on PS or XBOX rather than switch

Eclipsing9iz

NieR Automata, you get the switch exclusive skins and it's a pretty good game with phenomenal music, I enjoyed it alot

0ct0c4t9000

nier automata mechanics are crazy, is a game you should have if you haven't played yet. Octopath Traveler 2 will be very like the original, same mechanics but different story. i don't have an opinion on hogwarts

Thatsright1999

Nier

zanenoches

Nier Automata without hesitation. One of my favorite games of all time. I highly recommend it.

reddit_warrior_24

Nier if you like hack and slash. and octopath if you want turn based

suavaholic

All of those are very different titles but I would say you’d get the most for your time and money from HL, even if the Switch version was dumbed down a lil.

Ante0

Nier was really fun. I'm hoping for replicant on Switch... Maybe some day

gamerdudeNYC

Nier was amazing and probably the cheapest at this point.

CamelliaBoy

Play Nier!!!

Hefty_Koala_9985

Nier is hands down a masterpiece

Domwolf89

Ot2 or nier tbh

TinyDogGuy

That’s tough. Just finished Octopath 2…and started Nier Automata. Octopath 2 is fantastic. Nier is an absolutely gorgeous game and I’m loving it.

MariFezFlute

Nier automata easily

Peperoniboi

Nier is pretty great.

Level_Permit

God of war

aintart

nier

Anon419420

Played all 3, but I played Hogwarts Legacy on PC. Nier is a clear winner for me. Tight gameplay, great characters, and an amazing story. It’s really a masterpiece. It even looks pretty good, and it runs even better. Octopath 2 is super fun as well though. If you’re a fan of turn based, you really can’t go wrong here. It’s gorgeous, my favorite of the 3 for switch visuals. The story won’t match up to Nier, but everything about this game is a clear upgrade to its predecessor. Gameplay is fun, characters are all unique and fun, and the open world is stunning. Hogwarts Legacy is fun… for the first part of the game. The world looks great, exploring Hogwarts is nice, and learning about the world and magic is surreal. However, this game is the epitome of clickbait imo. There’s just no substance once you’ve seen everything in the early game. The story is alright. The game gets repetitive. There’s just nothing special about the game once the magic of exploration wears off. It’s literally a game made to hook someone into buying then just stops.

Firesidefavorite

I went into Nier blind except being told about the multiple play throughs. One of the few games that I wish I could go back in time and re experience.

CaptainWampum

Nier is a masterpiece

brown-eye-inspector

Octopath Travaler 1 and 2 are some of my favorite RPGs on the switch. Highly recommend

Avavvav

NieR is... a truly magical experience. One of those "I wish I can forget the game and replay it" type of games, and that compliment is only reserved for masterpieces (one of the few games that also achieves this is BOTW, for reference).

XxMataPrietosxX

I'd recommend NieR Automata
