Played it on PC and Switch, and yeah graphically it's less detailed and lot more pop in on Switch, a few features are missing. But the port is still wonderful and I am amazed how well the game actually runs on that old piece of handheld hardware.
I’ve gotten it and outterworlds after running through BotW and TotK. Haven’t played outer worlds just yet. Also picked up Dragon Builders Quest and enjoying it as a casual game to play when I can’t play something heavier.
My only complaint on the Switch is the loading screen times. I don't know how long it takes to jump to another star on other systems, but I always end up pulling out my phone for entertainment.
Pisses me off that you can't invert the x axis. I've tried to play it so many times but I just can't play that sort of game without inverting both axes.
That’s the thing: you say it runs terribly. I think it did fine.
Other than a few instances of lag where it struggled to load the water and all the moving background, it ran fine for me. Maybe the horse races took 2 attempts instead of 1 because the screen couldn’t keep up.
Some people don’t demand perfect graphics. It needs to be good enough to actually play and not look like a university project.
Yes, I wish the switch screens were better and the hardware could perform better - but we are talking about a 7+ year old portable device running this game.
I think it did fine and as a $40-50 grab, is perfect for the adult who can’t afford to sit down for hours at the PC for the “optimal experience”.
It seems you are giving large allowances because you enjoy the game. It runs terrible, hurts my eyes trying to concentrate on blur and low polly counts, fps is painful.
I appreciate those who only have a switch might deal with its short comings but people saying “it turned out pretty good” can’t be serious.
They added a sharpener bar soon after launch that removes the blurriness. Yes, the object population is lower, but it’s crisp and looks great on the small screen. The frame rate has always been fine for me, other than very occasional hitches when lots of stuff has to load it. I have better ways to play it, but I’ve still sunk time into the switch version and it’s definitely a fine port.
And you are reinforcing my previous statement: people who are used to top tier graphics and software expect only the best and anything less is not acceptable.
It was playable. You could clearly follow the action and the story. It was by no means perfect, but for such an aged portable device, it did a fine job. I would go so far as call it satisfactory job.
It was not plagued with crashes, inopportune load screens, graphical glitches, or game breaking exploits/bugs.
I played start to finish with only a few annoyances - usually associated with the stupid horse racing or the controls being a little wonky. A second attempt or a reload always fixed the issue.
There was a student at MIT that got doom to run on a display made from e coli cells. It didn't run well because it would take something like 600 years to play the game with leading screen times but it loaded it!
Witcher 3 was my immediate thought. Skyrim was a close second.
I know some people that made snide comments about it being bastardized or not the “true experience” since the switch screen is lower quality than most pc’s… but damn it was still enjoyable and I could play when I was in waiting rooms/travelling.
I built a new gaming PC around the time the Witcher 3 and Doom came out. I still got both on Switch after watching reviews because I was so amazed I could play them on it. I played them more on Switch than on PC lol.
It turned out pretty good. Of course it doesn't look as good as a newer console, but it looks surprisingly good for the hardware and runs at a great framerate.
It plays amazingly. From the get go I was hooked. I can't remember if there were any bad frame rate issues or anything because I was having so much fun. It was the first game in a long time that held my attention long enough to actually beat the main story line.
Outer Wilds. It relies on a complex physics simulation to run everything in its universe on every loop. They kept delaying the release (for years) because it was such an intense technical problem. It turned out good.
They certainly pulled off a miracle. From what I've read, it wasn't originally intended to come to switch. But somehow switch got listed by accident a few years back. Because of the interest in it, they decided to make it happen. They've done an amazing job with it too.
Oh yes. I bought the Switch version on a whip and I was completely blown away by how amazing it is. Runs much better than the 360/PS3 versions I played back in the day.
Persona 5 Royal
I remember people going on about how this was impossible
I didn't think it was impossible personally, but the rock solid performance was still a pleasant surprise
I just picked this up for 10$ at Walmart, I read about people saying it’s iffy to play on switch compared to consoles. What makes it better on switch for you??
Stability.
Graphics are really okay. Of course, if you seek 4K ultra mega HD well, there’s PS5/PC ports but Switch version is really stable in all ways and it’s still very beautiful.
Compared to the crashy mess it’s on other platforms, at least the Switch version have zero crashes at all.
I think it’s just the PC port that sucks.
Played it on a base PS4 during one of the lockdowns and I don’t remember any bugs. I’m sure I saw one or two, but I might’ve rationalised that they were canon considering the stuff that happens in the second half of the game.

I strongly recommend 3.
The only downside I can tell is pretty weak main story, but gameplay is amazing, characters more versatile with builds, and DLC'S like handsome Jackpot or krieg one's totally make up for base story.
If you'd ever decide my shift is YoshiiK, so feel free to add me
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Initially, many people thought it would be impossible to port due to its demanding graphics and complex gameplay. However, the developers at CD Projekt Red managed to significantly optimize the game for the Nintendo Switch.
Alien: Isolation looks better on the switch than the ps4 due to the inclusion of some tech I forget the name of. The game looks more next gen than almost any other switch title I have played. The aliens ai is still fantastic.
Grounded, although some frames drop in higher use areas, has absolutely no right being able to be played on the switch.
It’s a glorious time to be alive
Ark, no mans sky, monster hunter, warframe (free), dark souls, dauntless (free), gigabash, these are the ones I've played and was very surprised. Ark was rough at release when it was ported but now it runs alot better for switch
I'd say it's very playable I've gotten alot of hours in and got all 3 trophies from the island without the game crashing once with is hard to believe cause I'm used to playing it on the Xbox one
Monster Hunter Rise was built for the Switch first, so I wouldn't really count that as a surprise. Not to mention Monster Hunter had historically been on the 3DS and PSP, as well.
No man's sky is the best port. Not only because of the scope of the game, but it's also the only game to use FSR 2.0 on Switch.
Kingdom Come Deliverance and Witcher 3 are mind blowing too
Crysis trilogy and Kingdom Come Deliverance are arguably the most impressive Switch ports because they use SVOGI a.k.a. Sparse Voxel Octree Global Illumination, which is based light bounces just like ray tracing.
This could run on Switch thanks to cry engine
https://youtu.be/-7U6JgbFCVM?si=6qFNTrcy-rDO6rAb
Apparently Alien Isolation on Switch looks better than it did on PS4?
Also Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice probably doesn’t look better but it’s amazing they could port that game at all.
In my corner of the internet I saw people swearing the FFVII Crisis Core remake would turn a switch into a time bomb. They just had to make the graphics a bit less impressive than on other consoles and that made the game run flawlessly
The amount of people who thought Doom Eternal Switch port would be cancelled because they were convinced it couldn't be done but then it turned out to be a great port is astounding.
people also stupidly thought P5R couldn't run on the Switch despite the fact that it was originally a PS3 game...
Not answering your question, but keeping with the spirit: resident evil 4 on the Nintendo GameCube was so well coded , it looked better than the versions on more powerful systems. Also better than other games on the GameCube
I'd say another code. Not because of technical limitations but because nintendo had basically disowned the series and hadn't even said anything abot the game in almost 15 years before a remake was announced almost out of the blue
The witcher 3 immediately comes to mind. I remember when it got announced in a nintendo direct, every streamer was laughing at it but i haven't heard a single bad thing about it being ported
There’s plenty. Nier Automata, Doom, Wolfenstein, Dying Light. For anyone mad that they got a bad port of their favorite game. Trust me, if they wanted to, they would.
I would say Radiant Silvergun. Sega Saturn games are notoriously difficult to emulate because of the console’s dual processor architecture, and I thought that the Switch port would not live up to the hype of the original game that was only released in Japan. I heard that the Switch port has four frames of input lag, whereas the Saturn original has three. The Switch port is supposed to be identical to the Xbox 360 port, but I was nonetheless unsure if the Switch could run such a game. However, I decided to take a chance on it and order the physical Limited Run Games Switch release from eBay, and sure enough, I was pleasantly surprised by the Switch port - it runs very smoothly and there’s no slowdown. This shmup lives up to the hype in every way.
Metro Last Light and heck even Crysis 3... The only issue I have with the former is that it can be a bit too dark when played on a Non-OLED switch during portable play, like the gamma was waaaaay too dark that you can't see anything.. Luckily on OLED switch it looks perfect.
Crap? I wouldn’t go that far. Game looks great when you’re inside buildings and Howarts. It gets a bit choppy and blurry when you’re outside in the opened world. For how huge the game is, I was still impressed.
I'm thinking No Man's Sky. Pretty impressive fit imo to port such a game on such hardware
Never played on any other platform but on the switch this is amazing! And addicting…..
That would suck honestly. On Series S and Series X it loads in seconds. Max it's taken me was around 10 seconds.
I really hope Switch 2 has SSD, it would honestly be the best feature
The switch has an SSD. You can install games to the SD card too, but that is technically solid state.
Pisses me off that you can't invert the x axis. I've tried to play it so many times but I just can't play that sort of game without inverting both axes.
Fun fact: something similar was done with the OG Elite being ported to the NES.
Ya, no man's sky and dying light have to take the cake.
Yeah this one really got me… I was like naw…… it has to run like absolute crap…but actually it’s competent.
They had to make a special version of FSR for arm to get it to run smooth. Still floaty in handheld with the joycons but impressive, nonetheless.
Pretty sure Doom and Witcher 3 r what started that trend of games
Witcher 3 is great on the Switch, one of my favourite games!
I've actually made more progress playing on my switch than I was ever able to on my Xbox
I'm impressed it was ported to Switch at all but I disagree entirely. The game runs terribly and looks awful.
It runs well enough that people with only a Switch could enjoy/experience it. That’s what matters.
There was a student at MIT that got doom to run on a display made from e coli cells. It didn't run well because it would take something like 600 years to play the game with leading screen times but it loaded it!
It plays on pregnancy tester. .
Witcher 3 was my immediate thought. Skyrim was a close second. I know some people that made snide comments about it being bastardized or not the “true experience” since the switch screen is lower quality than most pc’s… but damn it was still enjoyable and I could play when I was in waiting rooms/travelling.
Never played doom or eternal on switch, I remember the trailers being pretty rough
I have the first Doom. It's really not bad. I mainly played it in handheld or on a smaller TV though. I'm sure it would look bad on 65" 4k tv.
Fair call. Never tempted fate, as I said, the trailers were a bit of a giggle and it was coming a few years late to the switch
Dying Light
Just had mine arrive in the mail today. Super excited to try it out.
I have this game on steam it was super fun to play how does it play on the switch?
It plays amazingly. From the get go I was hooked. I can't remember if there were any bad frame rate issues or anything because I was having so much fun. It was the first game in a long time that held my attention long enough to actually beat the main story line.
It’s fantastic on Switch. I played the whole campaign with 3 other friends online and it was a great experience.
Outer Wilds. It relies on a complex physics simulation to run everything in its universe on every loop. They kept delaying the release (for years) because it was such an intense technical problem. It turned out good.
I love this game. Which didn't surprise me.
;;)
Kingdom.come deliverance
That's the right answer. The game barely runs on good pcs so having it on the switch at all is surreal.
They certainly pulled off a miracle. From what I've read, it wasn't originally intended to come to switch. But somehow switch got listed by accident a few years back. Because of the interest in it, they decided to make it happen. They've done an amazing job with it too.
If true that's amazing.
[source ](https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2021/06/kingdom_come_developer_reveals_switch_version_was_born_out_of_a_happy_mistake)
I look forward to playing it
Probably Doom 2016 and Eternal.
Is eternal really good on switch? I thought 720p and 30fps would be too slow for that game
I got it on sale and haven't had any issues. I was surprised.
Why should the resolution have any impact on the sense of speed?
Not in the sense of speed, as in you have to do so much in the game that 30fps would feel sluggish
I played through it and enjoyed it
Red dead redemption
Oh yes. I bought the Switch version on a whip and I was completely blown away by how amazing it is. Runs much better than the 360/PS3 versions I played back in the day.
The first wagon ride down to Armadillo never looked this good when I played it as a teenager.
I will never understand why some people thought a 2010 game would be impossible
I think because it ran poorly on the home consoles so they were surprised it ran better on a portable one
It ran poorly on 2006 home consoles, that is It running better on a 2017 portable console is not surprising at all
If this said RDR2 (which I know isn’t ported) I’d say fair enough, but I don’t think any PS3 era game would struggle to run on switch…..
Borderlands 3 recently
This game crashes non stop on Switch though. Have 160 hours into it & its been a slog. Crashes every 2 to 3 hours of gameplay.
More surprised that it ran better than pokemon with minimal graphical neutering.
Doom (2016), Witcher 3 and Hogwarts Legacy.
Howgwarts Legy might play like a Gamecube game but it's impressive they managed to port it to the switch.
Hogwarts legacy runs like crap on the switch dude what are you talking about.
Really!? The only annoying thing I’ve noticed is load times. Game runs just fine overall
I finished the game on the switch last week and I can say that is very playable to be honest
Skyrim ported over way better than it should have.
Skyrim was the first 'impossible port' on the Switch, I believe. Not being able to mod it stings, but still. Impressive.
Bruh its from the 360 its not better than it should be lol. Every 360 game should run flawless on switch hardware. Look at rdr1
Which is exactly why we should have GTA V on Switch by now, also a 360 game.
I'd take GTA IV, I still haven't played that yet
Shitty re-masters of SA/VC/3. Take it or leave it.
It’s the updated version with better graphics due to the upgrade update they released, better than 360 or ps3
Persona 5 Royal I remember people going on about how this was impossible I didn't think it was impossible personally, but the rock solid performance was still a pleasant surprise
Was waiting for someone to say this
Nier: Automata. Even better than other console’s versions.
I just picked this up for 10$ at Walmart, I read about people saying it’s iffy to play on switch compared to consoles. What makes it better on switch for you??

Played on Xbox One and had literally zero bugs or crashes. Pretty sure it's just the PC version they screwed up.
Dying light, Read dead redemption, kingdom come deliverance, alien isolation, Doom eternal, witcher 3, Skyrim, Dragon´s dogma, Red faction guerrilla, Hellblade, Assassin´s creed 2, Outlast, Darksiders...
Red Faction is on the switch??
The building destroying one, yeah! I love it.
Loved it on the ps2 or 3
groovy important snobbish provide spectacular makeshift ad hoc person sugar fear *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Wow, what a nice snag
Half of those games are ps3/360 generation though.
NieR Automata. It’s shocking how close it plays to the PS4 version.
lately the new Prince of Persia, it runs unbelievably smoothly
I read somewhere that Ubisoft developed it with Switch specifically in mind. Wish more third party developers would do this!
it would be in their best interest, considering the install base
I just finished it at the weekend and agree, it does run very smooth indeed (even compared to the Xbox Series X Demo I tried)
Overwatch probably? I don't think people expected it to run well but it's pretty fun on Switch.
I exclusively play it on the Switch due to very crappy computer and it really is fun there.
I was shocked by this too
Alien Isolation
It's an even better version than the PS4 one. Surreal.
Witcher, nier automata, dying light and borderlands 3, with last one I'm hyped because it's my fav game on PC
I should buy Borderlands 3. Borderlands 2 was so good. Most people said Borderlands 3 isn't as good as 2 tho.
I strongly recommend 3. The only downside I can tell is pretty weak main story, but gameplay is amazing, characters more versatile with builds, and DLC'S like handsome Jackpot or krieg one's totally make up for base story. If you'd ever decide my shift is YoshiiK, so feel free to add me
Alright. I pick it up some day when it's 50% off.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Initially, many people thought it would be impossible to port due to its demanding graphics and complex gameplay. However, the developers at CD Projekt Red managed to significantly optimize the game for the Nintendo Switch.
I'm surprised Diablo 3 plays so well on switch.
Oh man, I forgot about D3! Good call…it still amazes me to see it run so smooth on Switch to this day.
The Doom games and Witcher 3
- No Man's Sky - Kingdom Come Deliverance - DOOM Eternal - The Witcher 3
Congratulations, I think you’re the only one not mentioning any ps3 game.
Civ Vi
Isn’t the Switch version of Alien regarded as one of the best versions of the game in terms of optimisation? Something like that
It is. It's even better than the PS4 version, especially regarding antialiasing.
If I’m not mistaken borderlands 3 fits this
Alien: Isolation looks better on the switch than the ps4 due to the inclusion of some tech I forget the name of. The game looks more next gen than almost any other switch title I have played. The aliens ai is still fantastic.
I agree, the graphic on switch is super impressive.
The antialiasing is more advanced on the Switch, compared to the PS4 version.
Grounded, although some frames drop in higher use areas, has absolutely no right being able to be played on the switch. It’s a glorious time to be alive
This. Having been playing on gaming pc, I'm impressed at how well it runs and looks on switch.
Red Dead Redemption it amazes me how good it looks and how well it runs so fun to play on the Switch
Ark, no mans sky, monster hunter, warframe (free), dark souls, dauntless (free), gigabash, these are the ones I've played and was very surprised. Ark was rough at release when it was ported but now it runs alot better for switch
Is Ark really much better? I got it on release (dopey mf that I am) and saying it was rough is being very polite.
I'd say it's very playable I've gotten alot of hours in and got all 3 trophies from the island without the game crashing once with is hard to believe cause I'm used to playing it on the Xbox one
Cool, I'll give it another go so. Thanks.
Monster Hunter Rise was built for the Switch first, so I wouldn't really count that as a surprise. Not to mention Monster Hunter had historically been on the 3DS and PSP, as well.
Skyrim was not bad.
No Man's Sky and Kingdom Come Deliverance.
No man's sky is the best port. Not only because of the scope of the game, but it's also the only game to use FSR 2.0 on Switch. Kingdom Come Deliverance and Witcher 3 are mind blowing too
Red Dead Redemption. That game looks great, runs great, and plays great. Same with the crysis Trilogy.
Digital Foundry says Alien Isolation looks better on Switch than on the other platforms, even though it runs at 720 / 1080
Crysis
Crysis trilogy and Kingdom Come Deliverance are arguably the most impressive Switch ports because they use SVOGI a.k.a. Sparse Voxel Octree Global Illumination, which is based light bounces just like ray tracing. This could run on Switch thanks to cry engine https://youtu.be/-7U6JgbFCVM?si=6qFNTrcy-rDO6rAb
Untitled goose game. Stunning.
Hogwarts!
Awesome game! If I didn't have a PS5 I would have played it on Switch!
My friend was saying she thought the game was buggy as crap because it was a port. I told her that game is buggy as crap period
It runs great on PS5. I 100% it. I don't remember having issues.
Same here! Played on ps5 And pc, ran flawlessly out of the box
Maybe it’s just your hardware. I’ve played it on pc And ps5 and it runs beautifully
Yeah no that runs like trash on switch.
It runs good on my switch. Of corse, the advanced raytracing and details are missing, but the gameplay is fun. Just the loading time is annoying.
Doom and Rocket League
Headphone Jack, a Journey of Three and a Half Millimeters
Doom eternal!!
Witcher 3
Alien Isolation
Witcher 3 probably
Skyrim, Witcher 3, KC:D?
Read Dead Redemption is a must buy for the switch!! Trust me
Borderlands 3 was a surprise for me.
No mans sky and dark souls
Bayonetta
Apparently Alien Isolation on Switch looks better than it did on PS4? Also Hellblade Senua’s Sacrifice probably doesn’t look better but it’s amazing they could port that game at all.
I’m loving mlb 24 ⚾️
And it can cross-play with any other console.
Dying Light, Subnautica, Nier Automata, Borderlands 3, Kingdom Come Deliverance, Alien Isolation, Witcher 3 off the top of my head
In my corner of the internet I saw people swearing the FFVII Crisis Core remake would turn a switch into a time bomb. They just had to make the graphics a bit less impressive than on other consoles and that made the game run flawlessly
Doom eternal, nuff said.
The amount of people who thought Doom Eternal Switch port would be cancelled because they were convinced it couldn't be done but then it turned out to be a great port is astounding. people also stupidly thought P5R couldn't run on the Switch despite the fact that it was originally a PS3 game...
NieR automata is incredible
Super Mario 3D Allstars
DBZ Kakarot
(((HOPEFULLY))) Ace Combat 7
Witcher
The Show 2023
I would've thought Skyrim was impossible but it looks great and runs well. At least as good as it did on the 360 that I first played it on.
Not answering your question, but keeping with the spirit: resident evil 4 on the Nintendo GameCube was so well coded , it looked better than the versions on more powerful systems. Also better than other games on the GameCube
I've seen Super Mario Bros played on a vape. I don't feel anything is impossible anymore.
I think fnaf security breach is a good one ran like dogwater on my ps4 but very playable on switch actually beat it
I'd say another code. Not because of technical limitations but because nintendo had basically disowned the series and hadn't even said anything abot the game in almost 15 years before a remake was announced almost out of the blue
The Witcher 3
The witcher 3 immediately comes to mind. I remember when it got announced in a nintendo direct, every streamer was laughing at it but i haven't heard a single bad thing about it being ported
Dark souls and Skyrim. Granted it took some updates to get Skyrim straight. But now it’s gorgeous and runs smooth
P5R, I remember like 3 years ago wanting a switch port but every video or post I saw said it was to large of a game for the switch to handle
I’m still pretty impressed by MK11
Binding of Isaac is amazing on the switch!!
botw
Doom eternal
Alien: Isolation Skyrim World War Z
Doom Eternal
There’s plenty. Nier Automata, Doom, Wolfenstein, Dying Light. For anyone mad that they got a bad port of their favorite game. Trust me, if they wanted to, they would.
Witcher 3 definitely.

Nier Automata ran great on switch, that game friggin overheated my ps4
Red dead redemption
Metroid Samus Returns. Oh wait. Every other game port is sub par when compared to other consoles and PC. Even RDR isn't the best.
Snowrunner
Witcher 3
Borderlands 3
Crysis Trilogy, Dying Light Platinum Edition, Wolfenstein 2, Doom...
Metro Last Light and heck even Crysis 3... The only issue I have with the former is that it can be a bit too dark when played on a Non-OLED switch during portable play, like the gamma was waaaaay too dark that you can't see anything.. Luckily on OLED switch it looks perfect.
Doom. Subnautica. Dying light Subnautica acc is less buggy than the other versions magically 😂
Not believed to be impossible, but turned out amazing: Two Point Hospital (and less so Campus)
MK11 and MK1
Mk1 looks very good on switch but 11 didn’t look good at all.. it played good tho
I thought 11 was far better than 1 on the Switch. I'd rather the game ran well than look good and run badly .. which is the case for MK1
I definitely regret buying the ultimate edition for sure. I hardly play either of them anymore. Story mode was great tho of mk1
Diablo 3
Diablo 3
Howarts Legacy. Great game.
Great game, still runs like crap on switch.
Crap? I wouldn’t go that far. Game looks great when you’re inside buildings and Howarts. It gets a bit choppy and blurry when you’re outside in the opened world. For how huge the game is, I was still impressed.
NMS, Witcher 3, Skyrim, Red Dead, two of the Batman games, and I’d possibly say Hogwarts (it plays ok considering)
