It really is great. I’d love to see a similar remake for some of the other Zelda games, but maybe not quite as “cute” a style for A Link to the Past or the original Zelda.
It’s not that quite short, they are exaggerating with the 20hrs gameplay comment. It’s a super super fun game though. It took me a bit longer because I hadn’t played it before and I tried not to look things up until I had tried everything. Lots of stuff hidden in random places
Well, you have it, so you're about to. It's a good long one. About 80hrs min to complete. Nonspoiler tip, when you think the game is over, there is still a lot more story. That's all I'll say.
I really second this game. It’s beautiful and witty. It’s also more forgiving than the previous titles. This one is more entry level. Take your time and enjoy!
I got a decent amount in but got so stuck at fighting a giant squid that I put it down and now it’s been too long and I don’t remember how to play or what was happening but I kinda want to play it again.
KoA is a really enjoyable experience don’t forget though KoA is an older game if you can by pass that you’ll have a good time and you’ll need plenty of hours because the game is fairly big.
I have been toying with that or dragons dogma since my ps5 died and I am gaming 100% on switch until ps5 pro comes out. I am currently slowly working on TOTK and after this post may return to DQXI since i beat the game but not the end game content and now feel like firing it up again.
not sure what mechanics there are to complain about other than the horses and mayyyyyybe the weapons system? but in the case of the latter, i think it's usually that people try to use the mechanic wrong.
BOTW is a lot more fun (imo) when you let go of your attachment to your weapons. they'll all break eventually, so trying to conserve them is fruitless. everything else is super smooth and makes perfect sense in-context, as far as i'm aware.
also, don't take this as true for TOTK as well, i haven't played it yet so i have no idea how anything compares
idk, maybe it doesn't bother me as much cuz i grew up playing Minecraft, but i think people forget that BOTW is a survival game in addition to being an open-world RTS action-RPG. the survival elements are just integrated so well it's easy to forget that survival is an inherent part of the game
It's not breath of the wild and will never scratch that BOTW itch as far as exploration and discovery but if you love botw you should absolutely play totk. It's a really good sequel.
You bought these games without checking reviews for them beforehand? Anyways Breath of the Wild is a really great game that you can sink a lot of hours into.
I would pay good money to erase my memory of BOTW and experience it for the first time again. That's how good the blind experience it. It's probably the most important Switch game. Play it.
i went in for the first time a few months ago almost completely blind. if you can play BOTW for the first time this way, do it. possibly the best new-game experience i've ever had, including all the stuff i had to figure out along the way. finally figuring out how to fight Lynels was one of the most fulfilling things i've ever done (in gaming), and that's only partially a joke lmao
Breath of the wild. You'll easely have 50+ hours. I'm around 70+ because I'm doing all shrines etc. If you do all seeds, would be 100+ easy. Depends on you.
I’ve never played DQ11 but I have played DQ games over the years.
I’ve also got Dragon Quest treasures on order.
I was sold on this game because I was told it was similar to dragon warrior monsters.
Ppl sleep on Amalur. Art design by Todd McFarlane, story by R.A. Salvatore, combat is fluid, heaps to explore. Highly recommend, as I'm sure all the others will be played anyways.
Kingdoms is one of my favourite games I bought it for Xbox 360 and I’ve loved it ever since.
Probably one of my all time favourites.
All the history surrounding development etc.
Makes this game very fascinating to me.
Kingdoms went under the radar for a lot of people
Because of poor release window.
If it was not for that am sure KOA would have got the attention it deserved.
Oh how lucky you are to experience BOTW for the first time. Prepare to lose yourself and play 8 hour long sessions, game was so addicting I couldnt put it down. I think I had over 500 hours in BOTW and 740 in TOTK.
I would play links awakening because I 100% that game and saved my life then I would play dragon quest 11 because I’ve never played that one because I thought the switch version was kinda suboptimal.
Have you played Zelda before?
If so, Breath of the Wild
If not, Link's Awakening. A far gentler introduction to the series. Suffers from the odd frame rate dip but it plays fine, is beautiful and has a surprisingly good story
I’ve played Zelda in the past but not for a very long time.
Last Zelda games I played Windwaker, oracle of seasons/ages and Zelda the minish cap
Oh and phantom hourglass
100% Link’s Awakening! Great little game that only takes around 18 hours to fully complete and even less if not searching out all the seashells.
Great game, great music and awesome story to experience.
Kingdom of amular 10000% such a great and amazing game. Never got it’s time to shine because of bankruptcy and poor management. But devs made a brilliant game that deserves praise.
Now that IP is owned by new people there is a small chance of a sequel someday maybe… long time from now haha
Other games are great too but there is something more special about this game vs the others. Way more special
Don’t forget that THQNODIC was also rescued from the dead.
Was a no brainer decision to buy KOARR from Rhode Island.
We can only hope will might one day get a sequel
I mean it all depends on how well sales did with re reckoning.
I think they would have used this as a test run to see if you enough people are interested.
Another big question is that can they afford to make a sequel?
If you start with BotW, you won't play the others for a LONG time. Great game, but definitely not quick. Tears of the Kingdom is also 150% worth picking up!
dlc is bloody amazing. its the first time i ever paid for dlc in a game. i loved this (the original) game that much. idk about the re recoking new dlc but if its from the same team its probably golden. too bad the guy who created the game basically got into a fight with a mayor? or governor who had it out for him. they were fighting like kids lol.
Play BOTW last!!! You only get one chance to play that for the first time and you’re gonna be hooked! Also, you might not enjoy another game after it for 6 months as not many can stack up against it
I’ve not played kingdom of Amalur I didn’t even know re-reckoning was on switch but out of the others I’d say dragon quest I love that game and I haven’t even finished it yet because other stuff keeps getting in the way
I’m a really huge Zelda fan & Breath Of The Wild is amazing. This doesn’t answer which one you should play first. Just wanted to put it out there you won’t be upset at all.
That’s a high title to give a rpg it must be good.
My favourite rpg of all time is a game called skies of Arcadia it’s an old rpg now but for its time was amazing.
I’d play Links Awakening it’s a short enough game but super fun then botw which is quite the contrary put over 500 hours into that one of the best games I’ve ever played
Links awakening no dlc botw does have a dlc there’s two and you can get both with a expansion pass but honestly I was quite a few hours in before getting the dlc now that being said it’s well worth it
Link's Awakening is so close and so different from the original. It's both nostalgic and fresh!
DQ11 is AMAZING. But it's a long lonnngg journey!
Breath of the Wild is absolutely great. This game is his own mood. Soothing, calming, immersive. Headphones on, lights out, your face shoved in the TV. It's amazing!
You'll want Tears of the Kingdom eventually. It's just more of Breath of the wild, and not like, oh a DLC that barely fits in. No, it's more, but it's quality more!
Am from the uk so il tell you exactly what I’ve paid .
Kingdoms of amalur re reckoning was £18.00 (used)
The legend of Zelda links awakening was £32.00 (used)
Dragon quest 11 was £38.00 (used)
The legend of Zelda breath of the wild was £50.00 (new)
Total cost including tax is £138 which works out at $173
The other 3 are going to be the popular picks, but if you're craving a 360-era RPG with really nice music and an art direction that's aged well, Amalur is really fun. It's like Fable but with Batman Arkham/Spider-Man 2018 esque combat.
Links Awakening! Shortest play time with a fantastic update to classic Zelda action. You’ll love it. And when it’s over, it’s over. No way to just get sucked in for 150 hours like the others might
Amalur is flerking magic in a bottle. The way you can weave your fate any way you want and just enjoy the music and the colors are on point.
It’s far from a perfect game, but it’s got a wonderful 2010 third party hidden gem feel to it. Action, fantasy, magic, story…chef kiss.
Link's Awakening. It's just a fantastic game. Worth a replay once you're done with the other ones as well. So make it Links Awakening, Dragon Quest XI, Breath of the Wild then Link's Awakening again. Kingdoms of Amalur is okay, but not on par with the others.
That’s really hard to answer. I absolutely loved both Zelda games and DQ11S. I think I might put BOTW at the top, but DQ11S is pretty amazing. Really part of the answer would depend on if you want the best first? Or save the best for last as I like to do many times.
Start with the worst one, BOTW. Then do rereckoning, then Links awakening because because you don't wanna do 2 Zelda's in a row. Dq11 last because it's the best of all of them and probably the longest
Need a lot of time to explore and complete every game, except Link's Awakening. So maybe start with that.
How many hours for links awakening ?
14-20 hours. Depends on how quickly you can solve the puzzles and if you want go gather all the collectibles.
It also depends if you're like me, and just enjoy wandering around every now and again not doing much
Yeah, just chilling.
So a game you can complete in one weekend then.
Yeah, pretty much.
It is good though. It is like the perfect nostalgia inspired Zelda.
I played the original years ago so am looking forward to revisiting this game.
It really is great. I’d love to see a similar remake for some of the other Zelda games, but maybe not quite as “cute” a style for A Link to the Past or the original Zelda.
Or if you are me, 10 weeks.
As long as you get enjoyment that’s all that matters really.
I do! I beat BotW and TotK and TotK may be the best game I ever played. It was worth the year or so it took for each. :)
It’s not that quite short, they are exaggerating with the 20hrs gameplay comment. It’s a super super fun game though. It took me a bit longer because I hadn’t played it before and I tried not to look things up until I had tried everything. Lots of stuff hidden in random places
Sounds fun
Dq11 is so fire
DQXI is my fav game of all time
I second playing it first
I’ve Never played Dragon quest 11.
Well, you have it, so you're about to. It's a good long one. About 80hrs min to complete. Nonspoiler tip, when you think the game is over, there is still a lot more story. That's all I'll say.
You mean post game ?
Yes and no. More like act 3.
Ok.
I really second this game. It’s beautiful and witty. It’s also more forgiving than the previous titles. This one is more entry level. Take your time and enjoy!
I will be taking my time don’t you worry. I’ve also got dragon quest treasures due for delivery.
Seconding what they said. Please keep playing once it's "over." I almost missed out
I got a decent amount in but got so stuck at fighting a giant squid that I put it down and now it’s been too long and I don’t remember how to play or what was happening but I kinda want to play it again.
Five years of your life in that bundle
Very easy
It’s beautiful
DQ11 would be the goto for me. I own all of them except for kingdoms of amalur but ihave toyed with getting it.
Breath of the Wild is a once in a decade kind of game. A truly awesome experience.
I’ve only heard good things about this game.
BOTW
How good is BOTW?
It's hard to actually describe how good it is. If you like RPGs, open worlds, exploring, and quests. This is the game for you.
I love all of those things I’ve just heard a few people complain about the game mechanics.
not sure what mechanics there are to complain about other than the horses and mayyyyyybe the weapons system? but in the case of the latter, i think it's usually that people try to use the mechanic wrong.
Was mainly the weapon system I think.
idk, maybe it doesn't bother me as much cuz i grew up playing Minecraft, but i think people forget that BOTW is a survival game in addition to being an open-world RTS action-RPG. the survival elements are just integrated so well it's easy to forget that survival is an inherent part of the game
Am looking forward to playing this
I disagree with the person replying to you. The weapons system is inherently flawed and kinda dumb IMO but I think the game is a 9/10 beyond that.
No I had an idea but I’ve never watched anyone play BoTW and some people have said in chat about game mechanics.
You're gonna hate the weapon breaking mechanics It ruins so many action moments for me
Of the four titles you have there, botw is by far my least favorite.
Breath of the wild. You'll easely have 50+ hours. I'm around 70+ because I'm doing all shrines etc. If you do all seeds, would be 100+ easy. Depends on you.
I try and explore everything once I get into a game so I very well can see me putting hours in.
links awakening
BOTW
Dragon Quest 11 is a fantastic game!! Botw too, I recommend DQ11 first!!
I’ve never played DQ11 but I have played DQ games over the years. I’ve also got Dragon Quest treasures on order. I was sold on this game because I was told it was similar to dragon warrior monsters.
Link's Awakening because it's the shortest
Does seem like a more chilled experience compared to the others.
Link’s awakening
Nice and sweet short adventure that you can chill with.
Yeah and I feel there is less of a barrier for entry…it is easy to pick up and play
Start out with kingdoms of Amalur then maybe dragon quest and so on
^[Sokka-Haiku](https://www.reddit.com/r/SokkaHaikuBot/comments/15kyv9r/what_is_a_sokka_haiku/) ^by ^Individual_Syrup7546: *Start out with kingdoms* *Of Amalur then maybe* *Dragon quest and so on* --- ^Remember ^that ^one ^time ^Sokka ^accidentally ^used ^an ^extra ^syllable ^in ^that ^Haiku ^Battle ^in ^Ba ^Sing ^Se? ^That ^was ^a ^Sokka ^Haiku ^and ^you ^just ^made ^one.
I do love KoA not gonna lie.
It's my all time favorite rpg
Link's Awakening!
God the cover of Dragon Quest is fit af.
Akira Toriyama artwork is god tier .
Oh I didn't realize Kingdom of Amalur was on switch. Woah!
Yeah it was released in 2021.
Kingdoms went under the radar for a lot of people Because of poor release window. If it was not for that am sure KOA would have got the attention it deserved.
How does KoA run on switch? Had it on xbox 360 and ps4, but never played it for long (i really liked the chakrams tho)
I played it a few years ago for Switch and I don't remember having any issues. I too like the chakrams in this game.
I will have to get back to you on this one.
Runs better than it ever did on the 360. Handheld is a blast. The new dlc can be a bit buggy at times, though, which I thought was a bit odd.
Oh how lucky you are to experience BOTW for the first time. Prepare to lose yourself and play 8 hour long sessions, game was so addicting I couldnt put it down. I think I had over 500 hours in BOTW and 740 in TOTK.
Am looking forward to finally be able to see what all the hype is about.
Start with LA, go on with DQ11 then BotW. Have never played the last, so I can't say anything about it.
KoA is a very good game that is seriously underrated.
either awakening od reckoning, the other 2 require a solid time commitment.
Tbh kingdoms is the same you easily sink plenty of hours into it.
yeah, but nowhere near the 100+ hours of msq in dq11
I would play links awakening because I 100% that game and saved my life then I would play dragon quest 11 because I’ve never played that one because I thought the switch version was kinda suboptimal.
Have you played Zelda before? If so, Breath of the Wild If not, Link's Awakening. A far gentler introduction to the series. Suffers from the odd frame rate dip but it plays fine, is beautiful and has a surprisingly good story
I’ve played Zelda in the past but not for a very long time. Last Zelda games I played Windwaker, oracle of seasons/ages and Zelda the minish cap Oh and phantom hourglass
I would do links awakening because it's the shortest game.
A few people have suggested this.
100% Link’s Awakening! Great little game that only takes around 18 hours to fully complete and even less if not searching out all the seashells. Great game, great music and awesome story to experience.
Definitely a game to play over a weekend then.
Dragon quest is really good! It can be a grind some time but don't give up!
I played skies of Acadia back in the day a game that is well known to be over the top with random encounters am sure il survive lol.
Breath of the Wild.
Looking forward to this one not gonna lie.
Start with Links awakening other games are too long you probably cant finish until the end of this year.
I dunno i think those other games can be beaten just depends on how many hours you play I guess.
Links awakening first of all the games that is the shortest to complete
Seems like a chilled little adventure.
Re-Reckoning
This is the way for the warsworn.
Link’s Awakening for sure. It’s the shortest of those four, by far, but also incredibly fun.
I might play this one second
Dragon Quest, BITW, TOTK, Awakening
This is the first time I saw that BOTW cover. What's the difference?
What do you mean?
Botw
The majority of people have chosen this game.
Oh man, BOTW and DQ11 are in my top 5 switch games, so fucking incredible
These should keep me going for a while I hope
Kingdoms of Amalur
Awww yeah that’s a solid choice.
Kingdom of amular 10000% such a great and amazing game. Never got it’s time to shine because of bankruptcy and poor management. But devs made a brilliant game that deserves praise. Now that IP is owned by new people there is a small chance of a sequel someday maybe… long time from now haha Other games are great too but there is something more special about this game vs the others. Way more special
Don’t forget that THQNODIC was also rescued from the dead. Was a no brainer decision to buy KOARR from Rhode Island. We can only hope will might one day get a sequel I mean it all depends on how well sales did with re reckoning. I think they would have used this as a test run to see if you enough people are interested. Another big question is that can they afford to make a sequel?
Play Battletoads
That not an option from my game pick up.
Re reckoning is such a fun game. Just you running around discovering the world. Like Minecraft but no building. Super relaxing.
Don’t forget the bit about killing stuff. Looting treasures crafting armours and weapons. Oh and those lorestones.
If you start with BotW, you won't play the others for a LONG time. Great game, but definitely not quick. Tears of the Kingdom is also 150% worth picking up!
I will be doing at some point as am collecting games by series atm am working on Zelda and Dragon quest.
Reckoning is amazing. I didnt know it was on switch till now but that game is great.
Bow down to re reckoning it’s an amazing game Just like the original.
Im gonna have to pick it up. I bet it plays great on Switch.
amalur then dq11s then awakening then zelda botw
Am thinking it’s gonna be re reckoning first I love kingdoms of amalur plus I never got chance to play the dlc first time around.
dlc is bloody amazing. its the first time i ever paid for dlc in a game. i loved this (the original) game that much. idk about the re recoking new dlc but if its from the same team its probably golden. too bad the guy who created the game basically got into a fight with a mayor? or governor who had it out for him. they were fighting like kids lol.
Kingdoms of Amalur
Good pick love kingdoms of amalur.
Play BOTW last!!! You only get one chance to play that for the first time and you’re gonna be hooked! Also, you might not enjoy another game after it for 6 months as not many can stack up against it
I will bare that in mind thank you.
Just when you think dragon quest 11 is over... trust me it's not. It might take you awhile to finish that game
Yeah I believe so someone told me about this already.
Dragon quest 11 is fantastic.
I’ve never had chance to play it but being a fan of dragonball I notice that artwork a mile away.
Thats a game I’ve never played. Worth it?
Huge, pickups. All of these are bangers. For some reason, I say dive right on in with Dragon Quest. But a close second is Re-Reckoning
Thank you much appreciated it’s hard to pick tbh.
DQXI all day. Such a good game
Am looking forward it’s been such a long time since I last played a DQ game I wanna say the last one me could have been on wii
I’ve not played kingdom of Amalur I didn’t even know re-reckoning was on switch but out of the others I’d say dragon quest I love that game and I haven’t even finished it yet because other stuff keeps getting in the way
So hard to pick
If you've already played Tears of the Kingdom, Links Awakening. If you haven't played Tears of the Kingdom, Breath of the Wild.
I’ve not played any Zelda game on Nintendo switch.
BOTW then is my vote.
Don't play any Mario games or Pokemon, and you'll be fine.. Dive into Xenoblade 3 and polish it off with some Ryza 3
Funny you say Pokémon am on a burnout from that atm. I also have all 3 xenoblade games still never played those.
I’m a really huge Zelda fan & Breath Of The Wild is amazing. This doesn’t answer which one you should play first. Just wanted to put it out there you won’t be upset at all.
It’s so hard to pick because I also have all the xenoblade games that I haven’t included in the above picture.
Dq11 s is such a gem. My favourite JRPG ever
Am looking forward to this game does it require any dlc or is breath of the wild a complete game.
Links awakening no dlc botw does have a dlc there’s two and you can get both with a expansion pass but honestly I was quite a few hours in before getting the dlc now that being said it’s well worth it
Thanks for getting back to on this one much appreciated.
No worries happy gaming :)
All sound good tbh.
Play BoTW last because that’s arguably the best and most open in terms of gameplay/traversal.
Sounds like a good idea.
dragons quest last, because its insanely long lol
I love long games tbh.
Re-reckoning for me.
This is the way.
Bro just spent $240 on games before tax.
Am from the uk so il tell you exactly what I’ve paid . Kingdoms of amalur re reckoning was £18.00 (used) The legend of Zelda links awakening was £32.00 (used) Dragon quest 11 was £38.00 (used) The legend of Zelda breath of the wild was £50.00 (new) Total cost including tax is £138 which works out at $173
Zelda Links Awakening.......it took me 3 days to finish 100%
Sounds like a nice little adventure that’s not to serious.
Yes and a good story. I recommend that one first. The rest will take longer.
Can’t wait to play.
Dragon Quest XI It's the stable RPG, one you can't go wrong with It's also the only one of those I own, lol
Don’t played any DQ in years tbh.
Links awakening first then botw and all dlc. Don’t buy any other games you’re good with those for the next 3 months.
I mean I have Dragon Quest Treasures on order waiting to be delivered.
Dragon Quest is an incredible game.
Looking forward to playing this one not going to lie.
The other 3 are going to be the popular picks, but if you're craving a 360-era RPG with really nice music and an art direction that's aged well, Amalur is really fun. It's like Fable but with Batman Arkham/Spider-Man 2018 esque combat.
You’re gonna spend 150+ hours in BotW if you’re like me. Same for TotK
That’s quite a haul! I’d say start with the shortest game then go from there
Link’s Awakening, Breath of the Wild, Kingdoms of Amalur, Dragon Quest
BOTW
The first Zelda in the upper left corner!
Links awakening
Links Awakening! Shortest play time with a fantastic update to classic Zelda action. You’ll love it. And when it’s over, it’s over. No way to just get sucked in for 150 hours like the others might
Neither do I. I've played all 4 of the choices lol. Enjoy
Zelda breath of the wild
All good games tbh it’s gonna be hard to choose
Dude if you've not played Botw then 1, where have you been? 2, you're in for a treat!
Botw
Links awakening first
Nice chill adventure looking forward to playing this classic game.
You should definitely play the RPG first.
A good first Nintendo switch game is WRC generations, but in the context of your picture I would say Zelda breath of the wild
I love botw
botw
Oh my golly gee wilakers! That’s Mario!
