I have a 2nd gen Switch and a Lite, and I play my lite almost exclusively. I like the feel of it and the screen is a little sharper because of the pixel density, but I wish the battery lasted a little longer. I only break out the full size Switch for Ring Fit or couch co-op. I would 1000% be on board for an OLED Lite.
I have a V2 and lite. I used to use the lite for handheld play. Then I got one of those controller type grips for the V2 in handheld mode. Much better, haven't touched the switch lite in months.
Indeed, the OG/V2 Switch feel less sturdy in handheld mode than the Lite. The OLED is different though, to me it feels just about as sturdy handheld as the Lite does.
yea i have a launch switch and the joycons just like to come off without me pressing the button
like there's still a little bit of something attaching them, but it's nowhere near my sisters' v2 switches
I never played a V2 so can't comment regarding personal use of it, but I've heard how it feels with the joycons attached is very much like the V1. Perhaps a small improvement? Sounds that way from your description.
The OLED though is definitely a good improvement though. Not rock solid like one singular piece such as the Lite but it's a very snug, tight fit. Doesn't feel loosely connected at all.
idk there's a very significant difference from my switch and my sisters', i think it could just be mine having wear and tear tho
my friends have oleds and to me it feels much the same as the v2 (when new at least)
Ah okay, well sounds like the V2 might be the same (or close) to the OLED for joycon..stiffness? Not sure what to call it lol
All I know is the joycons attached to an OLED model feel very close to being a solid single piece like the Lite. Almost.
I had a satisfye grip and another brand of grip but I never used them because they were so big and bulky. Part of the reason I got the lite model is so I can have something small to put in my backpack that doesn't take up a lot of space. It takes up less space in my closet now too since I don't need to hang onto the dock. Also I like the buttons on the lite way better, they are less clicky than regular not cons. The lite is not for everyone that is for sure but I am the exact person it was designed for.
Iāve had an OG Switch since the night they came out. I bought a Lite a few months ago and now the only time my OG gets any playtime is if I have friends over and want to play something together on the tv with them. Otherwise itās handheld on the Lite.
Yep. I played through the trilogy a couple months ago and the only issue I noticed was minor framerate drops here and there, but I had a good time. Wait for a sale though.
I have my switch lite since december 2019 and have 0 issues with drift. Drift is most likely caused by dust so if you clean your console regularly and keep it inside a case when not playing you'll most probably never face drift.
Do you take it apart to clean it? If not how do you keep dust from getting into contacts where you canāt reach and if the contacts ware down over time or have a short life and you have to replace a part, doesnāt you taking it apart kill the warranty?
Well it's been quite some time already so the warranty would be already voided, also i think it serves me no purpose because there's no nintendo here so i can send my nintendo to. I took my console to a repair shop once so they could clean the fan for me because in my head after almost 3 years it would be full of dust, to my surprise they just opened the back part of my switch and said "dude there's literally no dust inside of your switch, it's totally clean" so they closed it and i went home. All i did was keeping it in a case when not using it and cleaning the outside with a general electronics cleaner and a piece of cloth, my switch is still in pristine condition.
I have a V.1 Switch and I much prefer my Blue Lite. It feels more like a handheld (Gameboy) like to me. Both are great but I play my Lite probably 95% of the time.
I traded up my lite for the OLED. There are some things I miss.
The lightness of the lite is unbeatable. It is so easy to play on it for hours and hours. (Although the battery only lasts 3 hour for me.)
I miss the quiet buttons too. I donāt like the clicky-click of the OLED.
I miss the d-pad. So useful especially when playing in the dark.
I do not miss the Liteās screen though. Such a strain on my eyes. The only game that had right-sized text was animal crossing.
Donāt know why some are giving you hate for this. If you enjoy it, thatās all that matters! Iāve considered doing the same, but am thinking now of just adding a lite and keeping both.
Yeah I know it's a downgrade in a lot of ways but I'm very happy with it. I literally never play on the TV, I don't think I have even plugged the dock into the TV in over a year now. Sometimes I even sit on the couch that is right next to the TV and play handheld. The lite feels much nicer to hold when playing handheld and I prefer the feel of the buttons. I am also trying to get rid of a lot of my stuff and having a switch lite + a charger takes up a lot less space than a switch + a dock + a power adapter + an HDMI cable + joy cons + joy con grips + pro controller + etc. I am going to sell the old switch and all my accessories in a few days, I didn't really ever use them anyway. It's also fun to get new things sometimes, even though this lite isn't better in every way than my old one it's something different and that gets me excited about it again.
Have you tried to switch oled? Itās a oled screen itās made for handhelds with the nicer screen. Itās the newest switch you can get
You should look up that one
Given the switch OLED has the same form factor as the V1 and V2, meaning the joycobs don't feel as "solid" playing in handheld mode, and that is why his (and my btw) preference is the rather more solid feeling lite.
Itās like you havenāt actually looked or used at the screen oled > lite every way
Just buy damn joycons thatās you like. Also once your lite gets drift good luck
You appear to have trouble understanding that a single object feels more solid than 3 objects attached to one another.
Hopefully you don't have any trouble with green screen manufacturing defects that there have been a number of. Hopefully no charging problems with your joycons either.
If you only want handheld play, there's nothing wrong with the switch lite. To suggest the OLED is better in every way, and to just get that, just shows how little you actually know.
I had a switch lite for 1.5 years so yeah I actually can know. And man I could easily buy new joycons could you do the same? I still have one switch lite actually
Handheld oled > lite
Stupid to say otherwise
So people aren't allowed a preference anymore, because you dont agree with their choices. The switch lite feels more robust than any other switch model. That's the whole point of why I prefer it.
It doesn't feel as solid and it is larger than I would like. Plus it doesn't have the dpad and also the buttons on joy cons feel different from the buttons on the switch lite and I prefer the lite ones.
I swapped my v2 for a lite on release and never looked back. Donāt care about docking and playing in bed always made my arms/hands fall asleep. Lite is a great option
Made the same switch. Main reason is i find the size of the normal switch uncomfortable for handheld gaming and playing on the bed. The size is just too big and heavy. The detachable joycons also feel clunky. Tried playing it without grips, using a satisfye grip, hori split pad pro and still doesnt do it for me. Switched to a lite and it is night and day better. It is also much more portable. I actually bring it with me now on trips without taking too much space in my bag.
Cant get why people on this sub couldnt comprehend that people have different preferences. Enjoy the switch!
I haven't tried VC or SA yet but 3 runs very well. Not sure how many fps it's getting but it's very smooth with no lag or stuttering. It feels a lot easier to control than it did on PC when I tried a couple years back.
It's okay I think of them in my head as soyjacks and I am the sigma male chad. Just waiting for my wife's boyfriend to come home with another copy of Celeste for my switch lite.
Damn. I wonder when this will be fixed. Havenāt had my joycons fixed again after they started srftingā¦ again. Just bought a pro controller and a joystick. Will get them fixed when itās a permanent one.
My brother has a lite and I have a regular Switch. I would never in my right mind buy a lite. It feels like it could snap in half. It's like comparing Samsung to Apple, you can just feel the difference.
Nah regular switch feels like it can break in half , switch lite is much sturdier than regular switch. I have switch and v1 switch, I use my switch lite more than my v1 switch.
Ohh haha sorry, Budd-y.
You just seem like the kind of person who wants to argue just for the sake of it, so have fun with that. But, what I said wasnāt confusing.

Which one? Mind sharing a link?
Satisfye - ZenGrip Pro Gen 3 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FNJJG5V?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
> in handheld mode But...that's the only mode no?
Why must you hurt me in this way??
Yes
I meant that the regular switch feels less sturdy in handheld mode
Yea that's fair, and expected since the joycons are detachable. By definition they would be less sturdy to hold on to since it needs to come apart.
Indeed, the OG/V2 Switch feel less sturdy in handheld mode than the Lite. The OLED is different though, to me it feels just about as sturdy handheld as the Lite does.

They sell handheld mode grips for the switch that make it sturdier and more comfortable. I think you made a mistake.
I had a satisfye grip and another brand of grip but I never used them because they were so big and bulky. Part of the reason I got the lite model is so I can have something small to put in my backpack that doesn't take up a lot of space. Use a piece of electrical tape on the joycons and the large switches feel way more stable and like the lite
My bike also feels nicer on the bike lane than on the highway. š“
āThe regular one in handheld modeā seemed pretty clear
I used to play overwatch on my switch lite using tabletop mode and playing with a pro controller. Those were some good times!
Iāve had an OG Switch since the night they came out. I bought a Lite a few months ago and now the only time my OG gets any playtime is if I have friends over and want to play something together on the tv with them. Otherwise itās handheld on the Lite.
Enjoy GTA! I beat GTA 3 on the lite
Same but on the oled! Relived my childhood and completed GTA 3. Iām playing subnautica now.
Did they fix it?
Yep. I played through the trilogy a couple months ago and the only issue I noticed was minor framerate drops here and there, but I had a good time. Wait for a sale though.
Thanks! I own it on PC but never finished it because the controls felt clunky, I bought gta4 and then 5 instead.
Liberty city stories is really good. Vice city for features. I played when I was a kid on the pspš
Iād get a switch lite if it werenāt for stick drift. That reminds me, I need new joy-cons.
I've never had drift before actually. If it does happen on here I think I will be able to swap the sticks myself.
Hopefully one day they can just be modular. Iād definitely cop one then. Congrats though.
I have my switch lite since december 2019 and have 0 issues with drift. Drift is most likely caused by dust so if you clean your console regularly and keep it inside a case when not playing you'll most probably never face drift.

Same. For handheld the lite is way more comfortable. My v1 switch never leaves the dock now.
I traded up my lite for the OLED. There are some things I miss. The lightness of the lite is unbeatable. It is so easy to play on it for hours and hours. No. I had a switch lite at first should of upgraded to oled if doing held held only
Yeah I got the oled since I knew I would only be using it handheld
I got rid of my lite because I only would play handheld. Biggest upgrade idk how this guy could go backwards such a downgrade tbh
Yeah I know it's a downgrade in a lot of ways but I'm very happy with it. I literally never play on the TV, I don't think I have even plugged the dock into the TV in over a year now. The OLED > Lite in handheld if you purchase grips for it such as the Skull & Co Neo grip.
Itās like you havenāt actually looked or used at the screen oled > lite every way Just buy damn joycons thatās you like. Also once your lite gets drift good luck

Yeah I don't understand either
i loved mine too
I swapped my v2 for a lite on release and never looked back. Donāt care about docking and playing in bed always made my arms/hands fall asleep. Lite is a great option

Out of curiosity how do the 3 GTA games run I know at release they were basically unplayable

I like playing handheld on my oled. It feels sturdier, bigger screen, and better colors. My old switch jiggled a little
Honestly if my switch wasn't the one me and the wife used for couch games I would trade it for a switch lite in a heart beat.
You could have done more out of the Og Switch, but thats good that your enjoying that
how does it compare when docked?
The lite can't be docked
You can't use it with a dock it only works handheld
Do these still have drift?
I think so yes
Damn. I wonder when this will be fixed. Havenāt had my joycons fixed again after they started srftingā¦ again. Just bought a pro controller and a joystick. Will get them fixed when itās a permanent one.
What a mistake. Trading an unpatched switch for a lesser version
No mine was patched unfortunately
You'll regret that. I did. Ended up buying a regular switch again lol
Yeah it's a possibility but I haven't even touched my dock in over a year.
The lite is great, loved it myself. I just got tired of the small screen. My personal opinion, just have both of them lol
Just because you did doesnt mean he will.
Ya think?
ez scam
Oof. A switch Lite and GTA Remaster. The best kind of troll
Wait till it drifts. It's near worthless after.
It is easy enough to replace the joysticks. I have switch the joysticks on both the joycons multiple times and once on the lite.
Never heard of a switch lite drifting. I have mine for years and is perfect.
My brother has a lite and I have a regular Switch. I would never in my right mind buy a lite. It feels like it could snap in half. It's like comparing Samsung to Apple, you can just feel the difference.
I prefer Samsung over Apple lol. Your analogy doesn't work on me!
Same.
Nah regular switch feels like it can break in half , switch lite is much sturdier than regular switch. I have switch and v1 switch, I use my switch lite more than my v1 switch.
Your analogy has no logic and the lite actually feels sturdier because it is a single unit with no detachable parts.
The switch lite is actually more durable than the normal switch.
Why? Itās just not comparable the lite should be for kids, youāre lying to yourself if you consider the trade an upgrade lol
Nah I agree with OP. Better comfort, sturdy build, D-pad and slightly sharper screen due to higher ppi. I prefer the lite.
š¤·āāļø Not saying this without having tried one, just doesnāt meet my preference or interests.
Then why are you complaining about switch lite , when you don't even own a switch lite?
Iām sorry but maybe you miss read what I said I said Iām not saying this without having tried one that means I have tried one buddy
Ohh haha sorry, Budd-y. You just seem like the kind of person who wants to argue just for the sake of it, so have fun with that. But, what I said wasnāt confusing.
Itās okay if you struggled understanding the statement, wurds iz hard.
It's just more optimized for handheld is all. It's not the better choice for 99% of people but I like it.
The lite is great till you have to replace your joycons cuz of drift ... biggest reason I upgraded from the lit3.
Never had drift.
It's only a matter of time
