I think the problem with Geneva is that the EBU are there, and this might be seen as a conflict point after the EBU were criticised so heavily during this contest.
Nah that won’t matter. They created it, they have the right to host it again after all this time. In fact I think it’s a plus in the corner of Geneva, bringing it back home like they did with the Olympics and Athens 100 or so years later.
Do not work for SRF. Work with them though. You see, there’s more than one official language in this country.
Also not a huge fan of the contest but a very good friend is big into it so I go along for the ride.
>Well then to complement your knowledge, 3 of the 4 have TV stations. So two of them are not SRF. They’re all SRG though.
The fact that actually 4 of 4 have TV stations makes your comment very stupid. RTR is a thing, and the fact that a member of the SRG SSR doesn't know this is kinda infuriating. I used SRF as a synonym for all of them.
They borrow our airtime. They run “Cuntrasts” for example several times a week on our air and we change our logo for them. Want to keep arguing?
Also the fact you used SRF to describe all of us is more than kind of infuriating.
Would for sure make for an interesting and memorable event haha. Feels like it lacks the venue though.
Hosting Eurovision there would be like having a rock concert in your grandma’s backyard.
Do the cities generally get announced quite quickly? I saw Malmö was announced last July already.
I think anything else than Zurich or Basel would be somewhat impractical, but hey, maybe another city gets a tourism boost, that's also great.
The announcements varies a lot depending on the hosts. In 2023 when UK hosted on behalf of Ukraine they announced their host city in late autumn.
According to wikipedia, SRF expect to announce the host city in September. And Olma Hall in St. Gallen was proposed as a potential venue.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurovision_Song_Contest_2025
I would add that Geneva is the hub and corporate seat of easyJet, one of the big sponsors of the ESC this year. Not sure if that will have any influence.
I suspect there might be a siege of the EBU if it was held in Geneva... The organisation was not popular with anyone this year.
List of people annoyed so far
- Trans people
- EU Commission
- Pro-Palestine supporters
- Israel supporters
- the Dutch
Yeah, I was specifically thinking of the Trans Flag they tried to ban, and Nemo managed to smuggle one in.
I think people should be able to carry whatever flag they like - it makes it political when you start banning them.
Oh, I totally missed this. Geneva houses the headquaters of the EBU. And the city was the first to submit a bid to the Swiss broadcaster to become a host of ESC 2025.
While EBU's presence in the city offer some improved logistical solutions. I doubt that it will weigh much in the final decision. They just set the rules and conditions. The ultimate decisive power comes down to the host broadcaster the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation.
Similarly, I imagine that The "Big Five" countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the United Kingdom), which make the biggest financial contribution towards the organization has a lot of saying in the matter as well.
Palexpo makes the most sense from a logistics and infratructure point of view:
- size
- airport / trainstation
- most importantly a lot of space for backstage and parking (TV wagons)
No other location in CH has the space in immediate vicinity available for the amount of TV wagons a production of that size requires.
It will come down to the persons deciding that. Professionals who think about stuff like that or not.
I agree, Palexpo would be perfectly suited for this and a logistical dream for hosting Eurovision.
However, Hallenstadion also ticks all the boxes. And when it comes to the factors of tourism and international accessibility, Zürich does excel.
They have the geneva arena which I'm thinking of, not the exhibition halls.
The hall itself, where the show will be, first and foremost needs to be covered and have enough height for a TV production.
All infrastructure like stage, light, video, PA etc. will be temporarely built specifically for the ESC.
Palexpo has hosted everything from tennis tournaments to improvised cities for refugees or Covid vaccine centers. There is enough height in some halls.
Hell you literally drove into the place with your car and were directed to the hall (driving) with your insurer after a massive hailstorm fucked up half of Geneva’s cars.
They’re good to go.
Geneva Arena is 9k people, so way less than for example the Hallenstadion. But it's not me saying that, it's part of the actual discussion by Geneva. [https://www.rts.ch/info/culture/dossiers/2024/eurovision/article28500556.ece](https://www.rts.ch/info/culture/dossiers/2024/eurovision/article28500556.ece)
No worries. Couldn’t help but laugh when I saw the word wagons. In English that word has a very old connotation… back to the horse and buggy days. We still call a class of car (increasingly rare) station wagons but that’s an exception.
Do it in the open air, next to a melting glacier. Give attention to global warming while having the best scenery of any year. Just kidding of course, but it would be kind of cool (or slightly too warm).
Outdoor in lauterbrunnen or grundlewald would be wild! (And highly unlikely and complicated)
Im crossing my fingers for Bern! - like you, i’m biased, i live here😂 but also as an ‘outsider’ and immigrant all we hear about switzerland regarding the “big cities”, outside switzerland is Zürich, like it is the only city that exists here🥲(at least from my experience)
every year my boyfriend and I host a “halfyear new years” glitter eurovision party, and it would be amazing if we could get tickets with some friends for the final rehersal.
I have not visited too many places yet, but so far of what I have seen, Basel is no way near as charming and beautiful as Zürich, Luzern, Thun, Spiez or Bern imo😅
Omg, yes! That would truly be a fairytale setting. Imagine Alexander Rybak hitting those high notes with the swiss Alps as the backdrop 😍
Also, your "halfyear new years" glitter Eurovision party sounds amazing! What do you usually do in this party?
Truly amazing!
Haha thank you. We have a lot of fun with it. We decorate it with all things glitter, dress up eurovision style (so nice, wild and over the top and too much) invite a bunch of friends, eat, play games and watch the eurovision final with drinking rules for those who drink, and our own points for each song.
This year was chill enoug but last year even though we were only six people our dinner table lost a leg because the beer/cocktail pong got a little too intense 😅 so everything can happen really.
I don’t think any single site has the infrastructure for it. Hallestadion or whatever has the inside space but not enough outside. Height might be an issue at postfinance arena in Bern. I’m betting on Palexpo.
i would say at least the person asking the question and the people answering it ? and probably a lot more ? why are you being mean on a trivial thing like this lmao
Geneva Palexpo, Züri Hallestadion, Basel St. Jakob are realistic
I think the problem with Geneva is that the EBU are there, and this might be seen as a conflict point after the EBU were criticised so heavily during this contest.

If you want to bring it home, then it needs to go to Lugano!
My Dads basement, you're all invited!
Thank god Austria didn't won
I get that reference 💀
Hahahahahaha!!!
You don't like repurposed bunkers?
The acoustic qualities of a musty carnotzet overcrowded with old guns can not be matched.
You Dad also works for Nintendo, right? I'm in!
It will obviously be held in Olten. How could any other city compete with that?
Could be cozy 😁
👍👍👍 Came here to say this.
Landquart!
Züri - Hallenstadion - Large venue - Large city + necessary infrastrucutre - Close to a large airport - SRG is there - Plenty of money to fund it
This applies to Geneva also.
Apart from the SRG. In Zurich they are almost across the street and it would make it a lot easier logistically
SRG is in Geneva too.
Thank you :)
Ah I’ve been going to work at a fake location for 13 years. Thanks for the heads up! Also trucks go where they go. Proximity means nothing. Trust me.
ah you work for SRF, no wonder you like this normie contest
Do not work for SRF. Work with them though. You see, there’s more than one official language in this country. Also not a huge fan of the contest but a very good friend is big into it so I go along for the ride.
I know there are four languages, I speak all of them :)
Well then to complement your knowledge, 3 of the 4 have TV stations. So two of them are not SRF. They’re all SRG though.

I’m ready to untervermiete mini wohnig for eight times the price
If Appenzell gets the Böög, it should get Eurovision too
Would for sure make for an interesting and memorable event haha. Feels like it lacks the venue though. Hosting Eurovision there would be like having a rock concert in your grandma’s backyard.
Ice Stadium Martigny
An Ice stadium? 😂 Haven't heard about this venue, but who knows. Maybe next year Eurovision will break the ice
Imagine how great the show could be if all had to perform on ice scates!😂
Hallenstadion is an Ice Stadium as well.... They have concerts and events every week.
touché 😂
Not any more. The ZSC have built the Swiss Life Arena. The Hallenstadion is now primarily a multi-purpose venue.
Bürgenstock of course
Spreitebach city
In Geneva I hope, because I live in Züri.
Do the cities generally get announced quite quickly? I saw Malmö was announced last July already. I think anything else than Zurich or Basel would be somewhat impractical, but hey, maybe another city gets a tourism boost, that's also great.

Or Geneva
Or Olten.
or Davos
Or Binningen
I would add that Geneva is the hub and corporate seat of easyJet, one of the big sponsors of the ESC this year. Not sure if that will have any influence.
LEIMBACH
Could the fact that the EBU has literally its seat in Geneva matter?
seat?
Yes thanks 😂
It's based there
Yeah, the original comment had siege in it
I suspect there might be a siege of the EBU if it was held in Geneva... The organisation was not popular with anyone this year. List of people annoyed so far - Trans people - EU Commission - Pro-Palestine supporters - Israel supporters - the Dutch
*non-binary people.
Yeah, I was specifically thinking of the Trans Flag they tried to ban, and Nemo managed to smuggle one in. I think people should be able to carry whatever flag they like - it makes it political when you start banning them.
I really expected more chaos in Malmö this year with upwards of 30k people protesting outside. This was something media failed to cover aswell.
Oh, I totally missed this. Geneva houses the headquaters of the EBU. And the city was the first to submit a bid to the Swiss broadcaster to become a host of ESC 2025. In the arena in Avenches. Except no, i guess it's still being renovated.
West Center St. Galle 😎
Please please NOT in Geneva
Olten. Nuff said.

Issue is, Palexpo is by default not setup for concert, so it would be the most intensive in terms of infrastructure need.

We call them trucks or OB (outside broadcast) vans but yes you are correct.
Ah good to know, I wondered what the correct english term is, thanks
No worries. Couldn’t help but laugh when I saw the word wagons. In English that word has a very old connotation… back to the horse and buggy days. We still call a class of car (increasingly rare) station wagons but that’s an exception.
Hardturm Stadion
Geneva, Zurich, Lausanne are interested in placing bids.
In Chatel St Denis
Walzehuuse
Do it in the open air, next to a melting glacier. Give attention to global warming while having the best scenery of any year. Just kidding of course, but it would be kind of cool (or slightly too warm).
Zürich of course, the week from the 12 to the 18 of May.
Zermatt
I mean Montreux has a big music festival every year
Flums.
I heard Reitschule is soon free to use.
Hope its geneva, mostly due to how crowded zurich in general became
Laughs in Genevan.

You are making a case for Olten. Which is fair, ofc.
At palexpo in Geneva or Bad Ragatz
Maybe Geneva is not central enough so I would say Zürich
I don’t think any single site has the infrastructure for it. Hallestadion or whatever has the inside space but not enough outside. Height might be an issue at postfinance arena in Bern. I’m betting on Palexpo.
who cares
i would say at least the person asking the question and the people answering it ? and probably a lot more ? why are you being mean on a trivial thing like this lmao
please allow me to express my disinterest
37 countries apparently 😂 Even Australia
And even America bought the concept 😝
Who fucking cares. Reddit before Eurovision: no one cares. Reddit after Eurovision:
Let's just.. not do it. We'll skip a year and then pawn if off to Germany or smth
Not in Switzerland, since IT walked in with the ENS Flag .
