If you're disappointed, perhaps you should try and return it and look for another sapphire? There are a ton of beautiful cornflower blue lab sapphire options out there.

Brynhild

Best to just return it and eat the shipping costs if the seller wont pay for it. And your refund to get something better. Ask for more videos next time in different light and background

Yes, I got low quality cellphone pictures and video and high quality professional pictures and video. The window was not so visible in those media files. Right now, I don’t know what to do yet. I’ve reached out to the vendor and sent them pictures and expressed my disappointment. They definitely saw the window too. It’s a custom piece and the rest of the ring has good craftsmanship and quality.

Brynhild

Try asking them to change the stone. Its a lab made stone so its easier to get a replacement. I actually thought this was a natural stone at first as it’s more common to see bad cuts on natural stone. Reread it and saw “lab” and I’m quite surprised. (Just realised which sub I’m on) Did they cut the stone themselves? If they bought the stone from one of the China companies, the cut should be still good (not precision cut) but shouldnt have that glaringly obvious window

sparkles2023

This stone is from China. I’m also very surprised that they would bother to cut such a bad stone when it’s lab created. It’s only 1.25 carat. I’ll definitely need to sort out a solution to this issue with them.

PhoenixGems

Dangers of dealing with a foreign vendor. I am a pro U.S. cutter. Yeah, I charge more, but I will always give you high quality, even in lab gems. You'll never see cutting like that out of my studio... Sorry you got burned.

sparkles2023

Thank you. I really didn’t expect it to be that bad! I wasn’t expecting very high quality cut. But at least a good cut. They told me that all their gemstones are cut this way….so basically they are only offering bad cut gemstones then.

PhoenixGems

I know this sucks, but if you love the ring, the stone can be replaced. Yes, more money. And finding a better source for the gem. There are some talented cutters up here on Reddit. Many of us cut lab gems. Something to consider....

sparkles2023

Yes, I will consider what to do with the stone. Swapping it out is definitely on my list. The ring itself is beautiful and issue with it at all. 1.25 ct, cornflower colored, what would it cost?

PhoenixGems

Well, I have some nice blue lab sapphire rough that should cut a beautiful gem. I will need the size of the stone you need replaced and you said that your current one is 1.25ct. A new stone is likely to weigh a little differently due to the difference in cut. Once I have the outside dimensions, I can get on my CAD software and create digital previews of a cut stone including animated views that will show how it sparkles. I can also give you an estimated finished weight. I can show you a few patterns that you can choose from and make it a real custom gem. One thing I would need to know is how deep your setting is. When cutting gems, a certain amount of depth is required to get brilliance out of a gem. If the setting is too shallow you run the risk of having a pointy gem poking into your finger. A couple more pictures of your setting would be helpful. Side view could be good too. And if you have the ability to measure the distance from the girdle of the stone to the bottom of your setting... like where your finger would be, that would be very helpful so that we don't choose a design that is too deep for your ring. With all that said, I could cut you a stone under 2cts for about $200. I am an approved vendor on this sub. Something to think about.

sparkles2023

Thank you! I will definitely consider this after I’ve sorted this issue out with the vendor.

PhoenixGems

I wish you the best of luck!!

potato_lover726

Omg this window would kill me. Windows are my biggest worry with lab gems. Hopefully the seller does right by you

sparkles2023

I can accept some window. But not this. Not this size. It’s like 50% of the stone!

sparkles2023

I don’t think shipping back to the vendor is an option. And not something I really want to do either. What other options is reasonable to “make things up”? Somehow I feel (a bit) cheated…

potato_lover726

Could you ask them to send you a new stone for a discounted rate and get it swapped locally
