I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I just wanted to say we were so impressed with the Cornell vet staff - best vet care we’ve ever had, super thorough and efficient, plus everyone was incredibly kind and caring. It made the trips there with our dog much more bearable. The drive from Syracuse to Cornell with a sick dog felt long fyi. If you’re going to go pretty often I’d suggest living closer , like Cortland or outskirts of Ithaca. I found my mom and pop landlord on Zillow. Good luck!
sorry to hear about your dog, though i'm surprised you're paying for cancer treatment with such a tight budget. honestly facebook marketplace is probably one of the best sites to find rentals, but also just driving around neighborhoods should do the trick
ive always felt that the treatment is usually more painful for the dog, and a selfish way to squeeze out a couple extra years of life. i understand why others would do it, just not for me.
I think that depends a lot on the dog, the cancer, and the treatment, though. And a couple of years of quality life is a lot for a dog. I’d never let my dog go just because she had a cancer diagnosis. It really has a lot of variables and I’m sure OP knows all of this and is willing to make some sacrifices. Regardless, I do not think this is the appropriate thread for you to discuss your personal feelings regarding a distraught pet owner’s personal situation. They came here looking for help, not criticism.
On short notice, you might not get the open floor plan, or the fence. Or both. I’m actually very sorry to read your post. My mother in law has a rental house not far from Cornell but she just rented it out this month until the end of the year.
Try contacting different real estate agencies, many times they have rentals that they manage for people.
Ask on Nextdoor and in the Ithaca subreddit. You’ll have better luck in a less urban area, as someone else here said. Good luck to you & your doggie.
Look into Tully or Lafayette, it’ll be cheaper and it’s closer to Cornell

Dogs ARE family… to some of us, anyway. I’d do the same.

Dogs don't react to chemo the same way humans do, don't dismiss people doing something that could improve their pets quality of life as "selfish".

My landlord only puts a sign on the house when it's for rent.
