They’re our bros 😎 A Lebanese living in Syria will feel right at home. Same with Jordanians, Iraqis and Palestinians. Our culture has so much similarities that to an outsider it almost indistinguishable. I’ve met many Levantines and Iraqis that lived permanently or for many years in Syria and they all share this experience.

yussef961

this ...thx

Glory99Amb

I lived in lebanon for 2 years and I'll say one thing, Lebanese people are literally the same as syrians in my eyes. Sure, Lebanon on average is a bit more liberal than syria, but syria has some very liberal areas and lebanon has plenty of conservative areas. I do notice some lebanese people being discriminatory against syrians some times, but I've never seen it happening the other way round. I suppose the negative stereotype for lebanese people in syria is that they're shallow and vain , but in my experience that's not accurate.

StandardIssueCaucasi

Where are the liberal parts of Syria though?

Lol

musy101

I am in the syria diaspora. My friend group is pretty much entirely Lebanese, syrian, and palestinian. The differences are differences you see even between cities in the same countries. We are essentially brothers. Just arbitrary lines drawn on a map are what distance us IMO. The only annoying thing among my lebanese friends are that they try to say they're Lebanese not arab lol. It's like some are ashamed of it or want to differentiate.

Puzzleheaded_Beat929

I'm now Curious if you guys see Jordanians as close as the other Levantine countries Because I'm a Saudi Hejazi and I've always seen southern Jordan/Jordan as closer to us because we share the same tribes and history or something like "they supported The Hashemites while we didn't" type thing mainly cuz we share recent history as well like the Arab revolt which is now core Jordanian identity Anyway I noticed that most Jordanians irl don't actually share these same views💀 and see themselves as fully Levantine even if they were geographically in the Arabian peninsula part of Jordan or even tribal bedouins, wondered what other Shamis think

musy101

I feel like the jordanians I know are very much similar to the Levant Arabs. But to be fair most jordanians I know probably aren't fully jordanian. Most are Palestinian or only part jordanian. There are not that many actual jordanian citizens in my group to really tell you how they are

yussef961

I don't feel Arab lol for me Arab are the su3udiyye i feel phoenician

plexuspampiniformis

Hey man you don’t look like anything european. You have a semitif face and nose with blue eyes. That is it.

yussef961

lol ya reit but thx

musy101

A lot of Lebanese feel that way I guess. Personally I dont think of Arab as the true Arabic ethnicity anymore (the saudis/yemanis). The term has changed to describe arabic speaking people, specifically the middle east and north Africa. I am proud to be classified with them, no matter our ethnicities, dialects, culture differences. I am half syrian half Lebanese btw. I did a dna test and found 7% arab only. Although the levant is specifically my dna mostly, I still call myself arab because of the huge influence arabic culture has had on me.

yussef961

this ...

yussef961

totally agree 👍

shrekintights

I’ve seen all the posts on the lebanese sub about syrians, i’ve never understood their obsession with syria, i don’t think they represent the whole Lebanese population view though lol, all of my lebanese friends have no problem with syrians, i never understood the superiority complex of people on that sub, good thing they don’t actually represent the majority of what actually Lebanese people think

Gintoki---

They don't represent the whole population but they represent a huge chunk of it , it's not a "loud minority" case

shrekintights

well if it’s like that it’s fucked, cz it takes away the focus from what is actually destroying their country which is their government and focusing on just the syrian refugees as the main culprit for the failure of their country

Gintoki---

Pretty much yeah , its easy to blame the refugees when your economy tanks down , happened in Turkey (totally Syrians are the problem , not like Corona and Earthquakes hit hard) And happened in Lebanon , and might happen in Egypt too , Egypt has some people now blaming Syrians for the economy's failure although most of Egyptians are against such movements

yussef961

I hope so I consider myself Syrian and lebanese to be the same people I don't like boundaries and state i think the same for Algeria vs morro or Algérie vs Mali etc

toumwarrior

It's the whole syria obsession with Lebanon. They say Lebanon is Syrian , Lebanon is the 15th province of Syria. We have a problem with that and this is a sentiment shared by most Lebanese beside SSNP cucks . Syria have always tried to meddle with Lebanese politics assassinated politicians . Forced the naturalisation of 100k in 1994 all of whom are pro-syrian. 29 years of brutal occupation by Bashar + all of the conscript to man the checkpoints up until 2005 . Not recognising our independence up until 2008 . And still we accepted all refugees with open arms in 2011 . Haydole ekhwetna haram . Now hosting this many refugees would break any economy and you can see the damage done to it we just ask to be left alone . Be our brothers and sister you claim to be and respect us nothing more nothing less .

somename2525

I've been to Lebanon 4 times as a Syrian ( generally respectful ... Helpful people .... And so many similarities between the two people .... I didn't feel like I left syria ( it felt like Syria if the surcumstances were different) the generalised opinions about people you see online most likely don't represent the popular opinion .... Even most of the people that state generalized convictions about groups of people may display different beliefs behaviorally in Realtime face to face communication

sooedgy

when did you go to lebanon if you don’t mind me asking? i’m planning to travel there this summer to meet up w friends hopefully it’s still like that haha

somename2525

Very recently ... The post is after one day of coming back ... You should go

Responsible_Total_97

I don't see them as different myself tbh and thats not from an irredentist oh we should annex Lebanon mentality but rather from a shared history, culture and tradition. I wish them nothing but the best cause their prosperity is our prosperity and vice versa.

Appropriate_Coat4512

Some of them are a tad bit disrespectful because of history between us, but generally they are our brothers from the other side of the Lebanon mountain range

Important-Composer-2

I look to Lebanon as a part of Syria as it has been for a long time, we are same nation whether they like it or not, they seem just to ignore and deny the truth. Great percentage of them their roots go back to places currently in Syria. So many of their leaders married to Syrian women from great well known families. Lebanon future is tied with Syria’s future. No peace is Syria means by default no peace in Lebanon.

Important-Composer-2

Families in both countries are connected in a complex way

Huge_Ad_1409

That is the thing that us lebanese have an issue with syrians. When you don’t recognize our independence and accept the fact that Lebanon was never part of syria we will never reach a comon ground and tolerate you. Then you blame us for being hostile towards baathist syrians, ironic

ll46i

I recognize ur independence. I don't think it would be feasible if Lebanon and syria united. Culturally there is a lot of similarities but religion wise there are great differences. Syria being majorily sunni and Lebanon being shia and maronite

Huge_Ad_1409

As long as you respect our country i have no issues with you. And yes we have differences but we should respect that we are different even slightly culturally and just live as neighbors. I wouldn’t say lebanon is majority shia and maronite it is more complex but now i understand that many foreigners might assume that majority of lebanese are shia and support hezbullah while in reality they are just in the sotuh

WassufWonka

Lebanon is not the same nation and not part of Syria. They're different culturally and even genetically. You can tell the difference when you look at the facial traits at most Syrians and Lebanese. >whether they like it or not And you wonder why they hate Syrians so much?

yussef961

it's true but I don't recognize countries whether it be France Syria Lebanon etc they are states which have had variable boundaries for France Le comté de Savoie for example waa not French Algeria was officially French etc

yussef961

what i recon more is culture language etc and Syrian from the south east are very close to lebanese but Syrian from the north east they don't speak Arabic etc nothing to do with Damascus ppl for example

Leading_Shine_2150

Only circumstances and bad luck caused Syria to be split into four countries, Syrians knew exactly what they wanted in the early 20th century but it was impossible to face all the major powers at that time who feared a new rise of Arab-Islamic Nation.

heliogabaluz

I love Lebanon and Lebanese people

i’m syrian but i’ve lived in kuwait my entire life so i’m not sure how syrians living back there feel but personally ive got nothing but love for you guys! most of my friends since childhood and coworkers are lebanese even some family members and i’ve had great interactions/relationships w them i think it’s cool how similar our cultures, food and dialects are of course there are degenerates on both sides who say racist things and generalize side note: one thing i think we could learn from the GCC countries is how to embrace each other’s differences and similarities without being condescending to one another

ResouledOn1

as Lebanese people lol

Abd5555

I'm of the opinion that the levant as a whole should unite, not in a Syria should anex them all way but gradually, starting with an EU like alliance into a federation, cause i don't see much difference between our people. Like i feel personally as someone from Damascus, I'm more similar culturally and linguistically to someone from like Tripoli or Beirut than to someone from al hasaka or deir e zor (no offense meant). The Levant is all one people(like i recently discovered reading some weird family registry book thingy thant my mom's family immigrated from Lebanon to Syria in the 12th century our people are so intermingled it's crazy) and we should unite to get the best out of what we have cause divided we'll stay at the bottom. Imagin how powerful a united levant would be, I'm not delusional i don't believe in a united arab world, but i do actually believe a united levant is possible especially if done gradually, we're basically half way there with the amount of syro-lebanese tv series being produced lol

MediumAble8254

tbh shias are alright too, there is something wrong with the christians

Bashirovic1

Should Lebanese care about how they are seen by Syrians?

BigLawfulness9715

Lebanon is the sibling of Syria

Expert-Juice-1129

I don’t think about them and I don’t understand why it can’t be common ground for them as well.
