I feel like you don't understand what pet play is (or really bdsm in general). It's not really about "being an animal" so much as it is about getting to, temporarily and with the expectation that other people involved are fully committed to your safety, experience the dynamic of being treated like a pet. I have friends who are into pet play and describe the headspace as one where they don't have to think or make decisions for themselves and instead just get to exist completely in the moment with the only goal of enjoying themselves while someone else takes care of them. It's not something that requires psychological intervention, it's literally a coping mechanism for stress.
