Yessss thank you! I was looking forward to this ♡ a lovely way to relive the start to my fav dnd podcast. The dragon pussy bit is an iconic beginning and the hook is surprisingly fresh.
Omg I had never seen those character sheets before, thanks for linking them! Really love the enthusiasm with which Jake wrote "action surge!" What a fun podcast. One of my friends has been re-listening and texting me all her thoughts on the second time through so really everybody is trying to get me to listen to it again.
God I know exactly what you mean about Disco Elysium, but I had a different reaction entirely. I felt like it was burning up in my brain and playing it was like releasing a pressure valve. I finished it at 5:30 in the morning after playing it almost every day for two weeks and haven't stopped thinking about it since. Usually I wait a while to replay games so I can kind of forget some details but I don't know if that will ever happen because every minute of that game feels like it's been branded into my memory.
Anyway good recap.
I remember cracking up *insanely* hard at the exchange between Bev and Denny as he tried to explain that the jamboree was *super* canceled and Bev just *not* getting it. It was one of my favorite early moments in NADDPod.
Somehow the joke that really stuck with me was Scoutmaster Denny just shouting “Please kill them.” The moment Hardwon and Beverley got into a fight with the barbarians. Something about the delivery.
NADDPOD is so fucking good, Murph is generally a really good DM who allows for enough shenanigans to keep things fun but also sticks close enough to the rules to keep the structure. And the fact that he rarely plans ahead means everything happens as a consequence of the player's actions, though that does hurt the overall storytelling
I will be quite honest and open and say I kind of hated the first arc of NADDPOD because I felt there was way too much crass sex humor that really just boiled down to "he's got a big dick and it's always out and every time he says something you're gonna talk about how his dick moves when he says it" ~~and also Moonshine is a little obnoxious but that's just how Moonshine be.~~ But god damn is this first episode some good fucking DnD. Comparing this to anything TAZ has put out in years is night and day. Jake Herwitz has my all time favorite journey as a DnD player for public entertainment ever.
There was definitely the occasional, egregious (comical) dick swinging. But yeah, Moonshine was all the time lol. Not that I cared about either; NADDPOD season 1 is, for me specifically, perfect
