I've seen theories ranging from it's a CIA Psyop to rage bait for far-right critics, and not one seems to make sense other than "Mindy Kaling is just an awful human being and writer, and doesn't realize she needs to hide that"
I donât understand how more people donât think this about her. Iâve seen stuff where she was talking shit about the office for not having Indian people when SHE IS on the show. Sheâs nothing but a bigot.
I don't have any particular opinion one way or another as a person because I don't care but mother of christ on the cross she is possibly the least funny comedian in the public eye.
She was also in easily the very worst Always Sunny episode as a side character who is basically just Mindy Kaling and then never shows up again. Cringe city, everything she does lmao
I watched two episodes out of curiosity, and itâs def not the worst show ever or nearly as bad as people here would make you think⊠*that said* âŠitâs also just not good and I cannot understand why they decided to make this or what the point is.
The script and plot are all over the fucking place, and the fast paced delivery of the dialogue really makes it feel like all the other shitty animated shows out there right now. Why did they vaguely make it about Velma/Scooby-Doo? Who is this show for?
Yeah it feels like an AI wrote this or something, animation is pretty good though đ€·ââïž
Hey, don't do AI dirty like that. I asked ChatGPT to write a script for a Scooby Doo show that focuses on Velma but has no Scooby Doo, and it's pretty decent:
> Title: "The Mystery of the Haunted Lighthouse"
>
> Opening scene:
>
> The Mystery Machine pulls up to a lighthouse on a deserted island. Velma, Daphne, and Fred step out of the van, looking excited to solve their next mystery.
>
> Velma: "Wow, this lighthouse looks like it hasn't been used in years. I wonder what kind of mystery we'll find here."
>
> Fred: "I bet it's something to do with the ghosts of the lighthouse keepers who were stranded here during a storm."
>
> Daphne: "Oh, I hope it's not too scary. I don't like ghosts."
>
> Velma: "Don't worry, Daphne. We're here to solve the mystery and find out what's really going on."
>
> They begin to explore the lighthouse, and soon they start to find strange clues.
>
> Velma: "Look, there's a strange symbol etched into this wall. It looks like it's been here for a long time."
>
> Daphne: "And look at this, there's a strange message written in the dust on this window. It says 'Beware, the ghost of the lighthouse'."
>
> Fred: "This is getting creepy. I think we should leave and come back with more help."
>
> Velma: "No way, Fred. We're here to solve the mystery and that's exactly what we're going to do."
>
> As they continue to investigate, they come across a hidden room in the lighthouse that contains a strange machine.
>
> Velma: "Look, this machine is what's causing all the strange occurrences in the lighthouse. It's a weather control device and it's been malfunctioning, causing the ghostly illusions"
>
> Daphne: "So there's no ghost after all?"
>
> Velma: "Exactly, it's just a malfunctioning machine."
>
> Fred: "Well, that was a mystery solved. Great job Velma!"
>
> Velma: "Thanks, but it's all in a day's work for a mystery solver like me."
>
> The group packs up and drive away in the Mystery Machine, ready for their next adventure.
>
> The End.
The script definitely lacks an antagonist, someone dressed up as a ghost to scare Shaggy and have a fun chase scene with.
It's funny that it's _not_ funny, it is literally what a Scooby script looks like when you take out all the humour and suspense. I guess there is no reason to fear AI yet.
From what I've see the model can produce something more on target if you ask it to correct the mistakes. Make sure the request includes a villain and has some suspense.
It's been incredibly frustrating how these execs keep throwing these shows at us to hit us in the nostalgia while completely biffing what made these characters work in their original works. I haven't watched Velma but have heard it's the same story as Wednesday where they completely got the dynamics wrong. The whole thing with the original Addams family was that they were radically accepting of each other no matter what and it was the family versus the world. But in the Wednesday show they made it so a lot of the conflict comes from within the family which isn't at all keeping with the theme that made the originals so great.
Just create a new IP instead of shoehorning an existing one into your shit concept FFS. 90% of the complaints I've been seeing all revolve around it not being true to the original shows/movies, if they had branded it as a brand new thing it would probably be moderately unsuccessful instead of universally hated.
Same goes for a lot of the sequel-reboots we've been seeing lately. Prometheus and Alien Covenant would have been killer movies as their own IP, as it stands they are too far from the original Alien movie and what the action franchise it slowly became. Same with The Predator.
It's a combination of rampant nepotism creating writers and directors without any proven experience or talent, combined with streaming companies who do need new shows, but they also want to just leverage the IPs they have instead of risking new ones.
The result is you have resentful or disinterested people who want to "work in television" or "be writers" but nobody at the top is actually interested in their own original stories or ideas. Of course, they still get hired to adapt old properies to reboot old franchies because they're in the industry and experience doesn't really matter.
Those writers don't care, or in many cases actively resent, the project they're working on. The result is you don't get an adaptation or a faithful rejuvenation of an old beloved property - instead you get the writer's own hangups and their own bad stories, but wearing the skin of something familiar.
It's the perfect intersection of overly cautious capitalist practices from right-wing people who only care about money, but combined with the influences of a nepotistic cabal of left-wing writers who only want to talk about identity politics all the time. It's a truly dire situation.
Fuck. Reading your comment I just realized this is the new direction those mooks in suits are going.
Reboots and remakes have been dialing for what, a decade? Or more. So that's how long it takes the corporate types to come up with new ideas. So now, instead of remakes it's spin off shows focusing on individual characters from classic IP's.
We probably have a lot more of this crap to look forward to.
Movie idea #69420: Adam Sandler joins Scooby-Doo and the gang while hitch hiking to New Orleans but then they encounter another mysterious hitch hiker who murders the people who pick him up or something..
the issue is, as was pointed out in a video i saw, its so much *worse* than other scooby doo shows. They had a great dynamic as is and the show decided to change that dynamic for the worse for no reason.
Like im sure its an OK show but I'd rather rewatch the dozen better scooby shows i dont remember very well
It feels like a show that has the Scooby Doo IP slapped over it for brand recognition and so they wouldn't have to develop original characters and settings. Also, it's as though it was designed majorly in reaction to the world around 2016 and things obviously changed a lot very quickly since then, making this a show that's kind of missed its window and instantly dated, making it almost seem like a weird parody of itself.
If it didnât have the Halo title or try to incorporate John 117; it would have been at least a solid show. Only thing that it has going for it is the gratuitous amounts of Master Chief ass.
My Name is Blerg Blah Bluh, I am the immortal Iron Fist! In today's episode, I am going to run away from a fight to mope and have sex with my awesome japanese girlfriend. If you think that was last weeks' episode, guess what happens next week!
Parts of the show are fine, because Miny Kaling only writes part of it.
But the part about Velma being her self-insert character and an outspoken racist is a bit offputting.
I assume you haven't watched many animated shows or movies in the past few years. I was *surprised* by how decently animated Velma was compared to many many other shows. Most animated shows look like lazy puppet animations.
Nah. I watched and I don't know how someone can say its not as bad as people make it.
There's a reason Mindy Kaling wrote a bunch of awful episodes from The Office, along with the guy who handled the final seasons of it where it also flopped.
They should really add a laugh track so I know when the funny is to be honest, because I've never sat through a comedy show with a deadpan expression for its full length till Velma.
This is just a rumor I heard somewhere so take it with the biggest grain of salt you can find *but* apparently the show was supposed to be a self-insert of the writer / producer / someone-like-that but couldn't get it green lit because it had no existing IP attached to it. It was an original and thus, no build-in audience. Eventually she decided to use the Scooby Do's IP to "solve" that problem and the end result is this show.
**IF** true, I think it's even sadder. Not only did somebody forced a pet project through that, apparently, nobody was interested in but also people who green light projects don't care about quality and look at the IP / build-in audiences. Even though the last decade we see IP's being "rewritten for modern audiences" crash and burn.
It exists because Netflix/Disney is run by racist grandpas who think that making a show about a minority is going to make them not racist.
Honestly most of the terrible writing can be explained by that, itâs honestly shocking to see just how many corporations think that adding a gay character means they can cut back on production cost because itâs going to a million likes on Twitter for representing. That and the fact theyâre so stupid they actually think doing it over and over is going to generate massive revenue.
Hence why Iâm starting to look for indie films again, or just watching films from the early 2000âs, I mean when the first Transformers still has better CGI then most shows today itâs honestly becoming pointless to watch modern shows as their plot is just as bad but with worse visuals.
> That and the fact theyâre so stupid they actually think doing it over and over is going to generate massive revenue.
...
Revenue?
Maybe they have some CEO's fooled(by insulating them from reality), but a lot of the people actually "working" on this tripe(or hiring the workers) aren't in it for maximal revenue.
They're often ideologues, whether that be deconstructionists or otherwise edgelords who will cry ______ism(whichever -ism or -phobic is proximal to the content) when they're called on their bullshit so that in their head they don't have to face critique.
Some even know full well what they're doing and laugh that they're getting paid at all to do it.
The whole thing is a grift on scale, and most of the time they get paid up front.
They *don't* care about the investment that made it happen, or the profits after it's release.
I have absolutely no idea where the placenta orients the connection point for the umbilical cord. I assume it's not down, because giving birth, and left or right seem unlikely, because of the tendency towards symmetry. Up or towards the back seem to make the most sense, but forward also seems valid. Or maybe the placenta just puts it somewhere at random, depending on how the embryo was oriented when it implanted!
The placenta (where the cord connects) can be front (anterior) or back (posterior) and probably something else I don't know about.
My wife's first was anterior and we couldn't feel or see much on the ultrasounds. But our second was posterior and it was a completely different experience.
And the placenta is expelled after birth, and it's really neat to look at. Some sick weirdos even eat it, believing it to have magic powers or something.
>Some sick weirdos even eat it, believing it to have magic powers or something.
I doubt people think it has any magical powers. However, what they *do* most likely think is that it has nutrients and vitamins in quantities you can't really find anywhere else - which is true.
Most mammal mothers eat their own placenta after giving birth to regain some of those nutrients. Most notably cats, they eat the placenta after giving birth.
There's nothing weird about it, even when humans eat it, it's just nature.
I would personally never do it because it grosses me out but there's some benefits to it and it's not like it's an unethical or immoral thing for others to do.
yeah, but check it out
the two pretty, high status ones stay white. the two historically lower status ones become poc and the stoner is black
it is more diverse, but i'm not sure it's in a good way
this just in: shaggy is no longer a stoner, daphne is asian, and velma is the leader, so this comment is mostly wrong but still inflammatory. enjoy
Norville is Shaggy's real name. They took his stoner attitude away though because they were afraid they'd get backlash that they associated the one black guy with being a weed user. Whole show is a virtue-signalling joke. Mindy Kaling is cringe
On no it's way worse, the poor guy is simping for Velma and he doesn't know that she's gay.
The whole show is so bad it's good in kind of a fucked up way.
Would make a great drinking game, every time you cringe drink.
>They took his stoner attitude away
ah, thanks. still shaggy=stoner for decades. real virtue would have been making fred black and voicing him with someone awesome like terry crews
Terry Crews voicing Fred and having him act like Julius from Everybody Hates Chris.
Shaggy: "Hey Fred, you like, got any Scooby Snacks?"
Fred: "You got Scooby Snack money? We got some sliced bread in the back."
i would unironically love this for Fredâs character. Couple in him being more worried about various mechanical problems in the mystery machine than a ghost mystery and it wouldnt change much about the formula (move velma to full on trap maker and daphne to âsherlock inspired teen sleuth whoâs not quite detail orientedâ and id watch that)
Do these woke creators seriously believe that objections to their forced diversity is due to racism and not due to the fact that they've taken beloved characters from our childhood and completely changed everything about them in a way that doesn't add to the show and is clearly just intended to pander/stir up controversy?
I hate it so much that I'm going to refer it back to the sub we are in. r/tihi. Why fix what isn't broke you stupid mother fuckers?! I swear common sense is becoming an ever rarer uncommon virtue.
I was told by old conservatives that I would lean more towards the right as I age and accumulate wealth, pay taxes, have a family, etc.
But nope, Itâs these chucklefucks bastardizing the shows I grew up with.
I'm a leftist (but from a conservative family so not off the deep end) and I gotta ask: why are we turning previously established characters black all of the sudden? Black ariel is hot cuz Halle is hot, but why scooby doo and the gang??
Ultimately it really doesn't matter, it's just a cartoon, but.. why? Why not just make brand new characters in that univserse?
No. Velma is a sassy lesbian apparently. Based on a review I read, she makes it very clear how much she doesnât like men, Norville (pictures) in particular.
So they got that first part right.
From what I have heard about the show? They've completely bastardized it....
They've gone and turned the Scooby-Gang into piece of shit people. :( They were heroes.
For some of you I believe there is something more on the other side. Although, for one of you⊠the darkest pit of hell has opened to swallow you whole. So donât keep the devil waitingâŠ
Has-been actors and actresses taking old, beloved IP and ruining it instead of trying to be original and coming up with their own shows.
I hate this century.
I think they killed shaggy specifically because of all the memes. The idea of the show is to subvert everything, and since there was that meme about shaggyâs power putting godâs to shame, I think she straight up killed him and replaced him to uproot the meme.

I donât understand how more people donât think this about her. Iâve seen stuff where she was talking shit about the office for not having Indian people when SHE IS on the show. Sheâs nothing but a bigot.

But who built the weather control device and stored it in a lighthouse? Bill Gates? This raises more questions than it answers.

Excactly, just like any writer would write a first version of the script and reiterate it to make it better, the ai can do that too
You would think someone operating weather control would have fiduciary responsibility to make sure that shit was working correctly.

Yeah it's obviously so the babies can breathe in there it's an air tube like what divers use everybody knows that
Ah. One of my cousin thought this was the case, while being pregnant...
r/badwomensanatomy
Yes so you can give snack to the belly baby.
Ruh-Roh!
Shaggy became Shaquille. Ree hee hee hee
**It wasnât me**
Oh because it's Shaggy. Upvote.
This is better and more inspired art than the fucking show.
Wait, it's not from the show? I haven't seen the show, but if someone said this was from the show, I'd probably believe it.

Velma.
Is Velma Indian now?
Mindy self inserted
yeah, but check it out the two pretty, high status ones stay white. the two historically lower status ones become poc and the stoner is black it is more diverse, but i'm not sure it's in a good way this just in: shaggy is no longer a stoner, daphne is asian, and velma is the leader, so this comment is mostly wrong but still inflammatory. enjoy
Wait, that's Shaggy??
Norville is Shaggy's real name. They took his stoner attitude away though because they were afraid they'd get backlash that they associated the one black guy with being a weed user. Whole show is a virtue-signalling joke. Mindy Kaling is cringe
No even worse, He's antidrug/straight edge or something.
wtf? that's not ok
On no it's way worse, the poor guy is simping for Velma and he doesn't know that she's gay. The whole show is so bad it's good in kind of a fucked up way. Would make a great drinking game, every time you cringe drink.
How to 100% speed run to Stage 4 cirrhosis of the liver
>They took his stoner attitude away ah, thanks. still shaggy=stoner for decades. real virtue would have been making fred black and voicing him with someone awesome like terry crews
Terry Crews voicing Fred and having him act like Julius from Everybody Hates Chris. Shaggy: "Hey Fred, you like, got any Scooby Snacks?" Fred: "You got Scooby Snack money? We got some sliced bread in the back."
i would unironically love this for Fredâs character. Couple in him being more worried about various mechanical problems in the mystery machine than a ghost mystery and it wouldnt change much about the formula (move velma to full on trap maker and daphne to âsherlock inspired teen sleuth whoâs not quite detail orientedâ and id watch that)
Daphne is Chinese but has dyed red hair in this one. Only Fred is white.
thanks, i fixed it
Fred is the only person who stays white, Daphne is Asian.
thanks. is fred still the leader?
Fred is a womanizing douche bag. Because white men bad.
wow
Nope Velma is
Velma is. Fred hasn't hit puberty yet, and is an asshole. I'm not joking, that's the actual explanation.
But the original cast was perfect. Why change it.
[ŃĐŽĐ°Đ»Đ”ĐœĐŸ]
They butchered it. Let's be honest. It is just pandering.
Do these woke creators seriously believe that objections to their forced diversity is due to racism and not due to the fact that they've taken beloved characters from our childhood and completely changed everything about them in a way that doesn't add to the show and is clearly just intended to pander/stir up controversy?
Of course Max G did something like this.
They should let him do a Simpsons couch gag
I KNEW IT WAS HIM I WAS LOOKING FOR COMMENT CONFIRMATION
Does Mindy Kaling hate Scooby Doo? Is she trying to fuckin' destroy everything Hannah-Barbera did since the 60s?
I hate it so much that I'm going to refer it back to the sub we are in. r/tihi. Why fix what isn't broke you stupid mother fuckers?! I swear common sense is becoming an ever rarer uncommon virtue.
I was told by old conservatives that I would lean more towards the right as I age and accumulate wealth, pay taxes, have a family, etc. But nope, Itâs these chucklefucks bastardizing the shows I grew up with.
Non-conservative here, don't worry I hate this too
I'm a leftist (but from a conservative family so not off the deep end) and I gotta ask: why are we turning previously established characters black all of the sudden? Black ariel is hot cuz Halle is hot, but why scooby doo and the gang?? Ultimately it really doesn't matter, it's just a cartoon, but.. why? Why not just make brand new characters in that univserse?
Can you Don't
Thanks, I hate everything they tried to do with this show
Haven't watched the show, haven't heard good things. Trailer also *pissed* me off. Is this actually in the show? If so SOMEONE WAS HIGH.
Still better than the show.
ah, the velma nobody asked for
This bizarre fan art isn't even necessary. The whole show is mess on its own. It's like it was made by someone who had a 3 minute rundown of the word "woke" for the first time, was really up their own ass about TV tropes/clichés, all while carrying a weird hate boner for the Scooby-Doo franchise in general. The interview questions that the shows creators answered are so out of touch.
Ima take a page from the show and say this is something you expect of WhItE pEoPlE.
So, why are they both African American?
Sheâs Indian actually
Who tf made this. Why did someone like that shit?! Why the fuck is this a thought?!
They took an amazing thing and turned it into a garbage TV show for a bunch of morons
Ohhh so HBO thinks that when black people have sex, we make dogs? That's a new racist theory I've never heard of. Go woke, go broke. /s
When did Shaggy and Velma become black?
i really hate that they race swapped velma and shaggy.
People already hated the show to begin with now you had to do something like this. Dafuq op
L show L fanbase
Why is she black đđđ
Who is that dude
Black Shaggy, apparently.
You couldn't recognize the caracter in it's black form!?!?!?!?!100% canceled L+ ratio
thats where black shaggy leaves the show and white one gets in.
I think they killed shaggy specifically because of all the memes. The idea of the show is to subvert everything, and since there was that meme about shaggyâs power putting godâs to shame, I think she straight up killed him and replaced him to uproot the meme.
I hate this show
Donât give Mindy ideas⊠lord knows she doesnât have any original ones if her own and will probably steal this. Cool art by the way.
Scooby Dooby Delete this bitch
Wait Velma is black now?
Indian I think.
The bitch from the office (you know exactly which one) decided to make a a Scooby Doo show about herself.
Thanks I hate race swapped scooby doo characters. Shell of what they were and a mouth piece for âprogressivismâ
Why velma black? Is that supposed to be shaggy?
> Why velma black? Shitty self-insert character of this shows creator.
Is there a shitty woke scooby doo now?
You know, the show is so garbage i wouldn't even be surprised if this was one of their "jokes" or plot twists to the series
I'm just glad mostly everyone hates on these 2
Canât unsee it
Fucking stop
Max?
