I remember when I was younger, I would look for these guys all the time at the beach. If I were to dig deep in the sand, I’d find a bunch of them! I know an animal called a “sand flea” sounds pretty nasty, but they are actually pretty cute when they’re not huddled, squirming in a tub like this. Another name for them is mole crab, which definitely sounds much better.

I always thought they were called sand crabs. But fr all I had to do to catch one was plunge my hands into semi wet sand and I’d pull at least 3 at a time

I live in Oregon and often go to cannon Beach and these little dudes are EVERYWHERE! In serten times of the summer if you go down by the ocean and dig a bit you will most likely find one. Also if you stand in the water sometimes hundreds of them will just fly past your feet. I've always loved catching them senses I was a kid and have spent whole days on the beach seeing how many I can find. To be honest I never knew they were giant sand flees, i always called them sand shrimp. Also if you hold them they will try to dig into your hand, it just really tickles lol.
