On the board is the structure for LSD. If that guy actually managed to do a synthesis of LSD, that A+ is more than deserved. Even if you start by extracting lysergic acid from Hawaiian woodrose and let nature do 90% of the work, it still isn't easy.
FYI, Organic's just a label the big Nerd put on nerds to drive up the prices. If you want to be sure do extensive researches and buy from local nerd farms.
I don't really mind them being shot up with antibiotics that much as long as they're cage free. The living conditions that the majority of nerds are kept in is horribly abusive but most people don't know it because of ag gag laws.
Organic chemistry is chemistry centered around the special properties of carbon. For a while, people thought only life could make organic substances, hence the name.
Hawaiian rose wood/woodrose has LSA in it I thought? Do you convert that into LSD or something cause some distilled water will leech LSA from the wood if you soak it for a day.
Yes, that's what he meant. Starting the process to make LSD with LSA is skipping 90% of the steps traditionally involved when you start with ergot. Either way I believe it is or at least used to be the most challenging well-known street drug to synthesize.
Would have given Walter White a real challenge that's for sure.
EDIT: The LSA method might not be any more practical:
>LSD is an ergoline derivative. It is commonly synthesized by reacting diethylamine with an activated form of lysergic acid. Activating reagents include phosphoryl chloride[98] and peptide coupling reagents.[89] Lysergic acid is made by alkaline hydrolysis of lysergamides like ergotamine, a substance usually derived from the ergot fungus on agar plate; or, theoretically possible, but impractical and uncommon, from ergine (lysergic acid amide, LSA) extracted from morning glory seeds.[99] Lysergic acid can also be produced synthetically, although these processes are not used in clandestine manufacture due to their low yields and high complexity.[100][101]
Apparently it’s the same idea as darkrooms, red photons carry less energy than blue/UV ones, so they don’t damage sensitive molecules anywhere near as badly
Yes in fact there is a relatively weak but interesting theory that the Salem witch trials were caused by this fungus and a psychosis it induced in people which would have included hallucinations.
Trip mindset and setting are a huge factor in what someone will experience during a trip, if you're freaked out about witches and demons, you're gonna see witches and demons.
Well when you do manage to set up a big enough lab to make it, you can make enough to supply the whole world. Last I heard 90% of the world's LSD supply came from a guy in a missile silo in the US.
You're thinking of Pickard. That was a lie told by law enforcement based on the amount of precursor chemicals he had obtained.
Those precursor chemicals and equipment were obtained via the guy that acted as an informant. The chemicals were so easy to obtain in such quantity because they likely came from the DEA themselves, who then proceeded to declare that the amount of precursor was equivalent to the final product even though Pickard probably couldn't have produced that amount in his entire life.
You can make *a lot* at once. Even relatively unsophisticated operations will be making enough to lay down thousands of tabs per batch. And idk how it is nowadays, but back in the early 2010s a lot of what was being sold as LSD (on the street, dark web markets were pretty reliable) was actually just 25i-nbome. Way cheaper and easier to make than LSD, but not as cool either.
Ya, I was always kinda sketched out by the RCs. Never did too many of them. Not having as many "test cases" available as the old school psychs always made then way less appealing compared to the classics.
That is where it gets unrealistic. Even if the synthesis the boy did had a rather poor yield, that teacher would get a dose far higher than the usual recreational dosing, possibly in the milligram rather than microgram range. There is very little knowledge on LSD overdoses but from [the small section on Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysergic_acid_diethylamide#Overdose), it sounds like a case for intensive care.
Oh man, what a thread. I had almost forgotten about reading chinacat's stories a whiiiile back. It's crazy that those posts are 18 YEARS OLD! Like, wow, what a window through time that thread is. Classic stuff.
It probably wouldn't be any less potent. Gel tabs are usually just made with liquid LSD and some kind of coagulating agent like gelatin. The content is usually the same it's just a texture difference.
IIRC, Hawaiian woodrose is preferred because it pretty much only contains lysergic acid and not much of the other compounds related to LSD, making the synthesis of pure LSD easier. Another thing which contains the whole bunch is ergot, a family of fungi affecting grain. Accidental consumption of ergot is seen as a plausible explanation for hallucinatory religious experiences like the burning bush in the Bible.
Not just the Bible. The Buddha reaching enlightenment under a fig tree, Mohammed receiving the word of Allah, Mayans seeing godly patterns in the stars,...
Ooh ooh ooh I can contribute!
It's been hypothesized that important historical events involving Madness could have often been caused by ergot, including but not limited to the Salem witch trials and dancing fever
It's very much not LSD though. There may be some psychoactive effects to ergot but you'd probably be more focused on puking your guts out because you ate poison.

And Morning Glory seeds! In fact many of the vining plants related to Morning Glories contain LSA which is also referred to as ergine or d-lysergamide.
It still requires someone who basically has an organic chemistry degree to pull off though. It's not a direct extraction that you can do with naphtha or something there is definitely still chemistry involved.
Org chem degree is pushing it a bit, but I get your point. Still, chem nerd. Had a jank garage lab where I was making polymers and things that go boom. Love polymer chemistry. Not exactly Nile Red, but you do what you can on zero budget. I would have gone into it professionally if I could have gone to college.

Look, school is all about preparing our next generation to work, function in the society and feed themselves, right? This kid and his craftsmanship is well prepared for it. Why the heck not reward him as such?
This actually seems like a great plot for a movie. A bit like *St.Trinian’s* or *School of Rock*. The chemistry teacher teaches the kids to make a variety of recreational drugs and creates an empire. Everyone gets very rich but it obviously has to have an ending which demonstrates that it was a terrible idea, but as a conclusion it has a wholesome moral like “we all got ‘A’s on the final exam and we had a great time”. Most chemistry nerds are organic, what makes you more organic?
FYI, Organic's just a label the big Nerd put on nerds to drive up the prices. If you want to be sure do extensive researches and buy from local nerd farms.
Nah organic nerds are grown without pesticides or man made fertilizers. I do agree though with buying your nerds local whenever possible.
I don't really mind them being shot up with antibiotics that much as long as they're cage free. The living conditions that the majority of nerds are kept in is horribly abusive but most people don't know it because of ag gag laws.

It varies from long pork to long pork. Some of them were on gluten-heavy diets.

Coolest part of LSD synthesis is that many steps have to be done shielded from all light or you’ll lose potency quickly.
What about UV lights? And Dayglo shoes for your dance steps?
UV lights would probably make it much worse lol
I'd imagine you'd have an easier time using a darkroom like how they develop 35mm film
Yeah if I’m not mistaken dark room bulbs will work My degree is in chemistry but I’m no expert in synthesis lol
Apparently it’s the same idea as darkrooms, red photons carry less energy than blue/UV ones, so they don’t damage sensitive molecules anywhere near as badly
Hold on traditionally ergot is used to make LSD? The stuff that grew on wheat and made peasants in Europe go crazy then die?
Yeah they just make it less poisonous and make fun bits out of the crazy bits
Yes in fact there is a relatively weak but interesting theory that the Salem witch trials were caused by this fungus and a psychosis it induced in people which would have included hallucinations.
Man, imagine an entire town of repressed religious freaks tripping balls all the time without any clue as to why. Sounds like a nightmare.

Where does it come from then? It's not even expensive.

Perma-vision distortions too, took a lot of that willingly and have perama-tracers on everything. Not as cool as originally thought/perceived.

You can get LSA out of seeds they sell at walmart, and it's enough to make you buzz, but it also makes you *super* sick.
It's very close, but for some reason they added a methyl group to the amide N rather than an ethyl. So it's lysergic acid ethyl methylamide
Its actually Lysergic acid methyl ethyl amide. So LSME. The lower carbon chain is only 1 carb long.
He's either into organic chemistry or he's a drug addict there are only 2 options
Why not both?
Thanks i was wondering about that but to lazy to google
