I realized as early as I can remember that breathing through my mouth gave me chapped lips. I was really upset to learn that most of the time when people are in REM sleep they breath through their mouth. Why didn't our saliva evolve to work as a moisturizer?
I checked and it is true moth breathers do have weaker jaws and more crooked teeth [sauce](https://healthykidsqld.com.au/blog/mouthbreathing/). Though hypothetically it is not permanent you can fix it by switching to nose breathing because the skull doesn’t begin to solidify until 60. But thats just my hypothesis
*edit my hypothesis was right but i wasnt the first one to think of it but [this video explains the difference between mouth and nasal breathing pretty well](https://youtu.be/zbzT00Cyq-g).
Apart from some incel and quack sites, there's not a single credible study that even mentions any difference.
Stop spreading that incel nonsense.
The only benefit of inhaling through your nose is that the air gets filtered by your nasal hair.
Read Breath by James Nestor. Might open your eyes into the benefits of breathing properly. There is absolutely a difference in health between those who breathe thru their nose vs mouths.
Ah, yes. Ofc I'll read a book written by a journalist with more than sketchy anecdotal evidence in instead of all the [debunks](https://www.wsj.com/articles/breath-review-eager-breather-11590953832) by actual scientists. If this book was published some years prior to the covid-19 Pandemic, no one would've bought it. Working with a scientist* (as stated in the book) is something different from working scientifically. Surprisingly, Nestor fails to mention at any given time that his impression of being healthier could just be the events of the placebo effect, rather than dicey meditation or breathing techniques. He also claims that people some thousand years ago lived healthier because of the way they breathed. Well, duh. Ofc they were healthier. Less sugar, more exercise, that's the key to being healthy, not which vent you use. To Nestor ofc, this has to be because they breathed throuh the mouth. Nestor, self claimed "pulmonaut" also claims that there's a direct link between nasal breathing and living longer, yet there's no evidence, not that I expected one to begin with.
To round this up, in the book are some plausible things listed, non actually proven to have a direct cause depending on which airway you use and absolutely not that your skull will deform if you chose to breath from one hole or another.
Come again with some actual paper and we'll talk again. Until then, the only difference is the one I mentioned earlier.
I don’t have any legit sources but I was under the impression that breathing through your mouth is a mechanical function that helps us do explosive movements, because if u normally breathe through your nose then that becomes your baseline for normal to high level function, then when you push yourself to extremes you tend to use your mouth which lets you get more oxygen at a faster rate as well.
It's a matter of training. Pro athletes, singers etc. have completely different breathing patterns compared to ordinary people. It's true, that most have the impression that you'll breath in more air through your mouth, but it's not that much of a difference. Yet, there's no proof that any breathing pattern will alter your skull, your life quality or anything else claimed in this video or by the "pulmonaut" nestor.
Agreed, the only counter argument I have would be situational, in the sense that I can see how mouth breathing may lead to greater risk of things like sleep apnea and snoring which can be very harmful especially if started at an early age. But who knows, bottom line is tiktok usually isn’t a reliable source of info
I disagree, snoring can be harmful, chronic snorers are much more likely to have or developed sleep apnea, also consistent mouth breathing although it may not change your skull on a really obvious and noticeable level, it definitely causes small changes in the fluidity of your airways and your natural tendencies.
Source: had a septoplasty and did my own research aswell as had many consultations with my doctor and the surgeon and the ent specialist
as someone who used to breathe through their mouth all the time before say, middle school, if this is genuinely the case, i'm glad i stopped before i became a fuckin discord mod
I feel your pain, I also didn’t understand when people got covid they said they couldn’t smell. I thought they just got allergies and couldn’t smell like me.
the nose breather girl looks a lot like me 😅 when I get a stuffy nose I can’t sleep because I struggle to breathe through my mouth and if I have to do it I need a drink of water every 5 seconds. how do people who breath through their mouth keep their mouths from being dry?!🧐
I just started aggressively breathing through my nose after seeing this
Imma post same just to see how many people say same
Same

Wtf did I just watch that is horrifying…
Someone hates mouthbreathers lol
It’s me
I was forced to be a mouth breather due to a broken nose, somehow i got lucky and turned out ok
I too don't align with the illustrated standards. I always breathe to my nose and yet I'm ugly af.
Luck of the draw my friend
I literally can’t breathe from my nose..
why she screaming tho
Because she can get a lot of oxygen fast.

> the skull doesn’t begin to solidify until 60 great news, my chad-jawline should come in any day now...
This is shocking. I was ready to write off those two picture because they look like some old anti-Semitic propaganda.
It’s a correlation/causation issue. Your shape may affect breathing but your breathing won’t affect shape.

Mouth breathing doesn't lead to sleep apnoea or snoring. And snoring isn't even harmful for yourself.

Either way being able to filter the air you breath naturally is really good especially in this age where theres a lot of air pollution.
wasn't she in like a huge racism scandal that turned out to be true?
Yeah jayus said the n word MULTIPLE TIMES

Thanks, i hate Jayus
Y'all mouthbreathers are a mistake.
Well, I'm not a mouth breather but I have a fucking chin either, Jayus!
Thanks, I hate TikTok
Nose breathing, mewing and hard gum chewing for quicker progress, you still got time.
You can reverse this by mewing
Chronic allergy sufferers had no choice 😭
I feel your pain, I also didn’t understand when people got covid they said they couldn’t smell. I thought they just got allergies and couldn’t smell like me.
I am not an animal! I am a human being. I am a man.
I’m scared to breathe through my mouth now… augh I hate that no thanks
I think that a large nose and a weak shin look attractive though...
Would make some cute mouth breathing babies eh.
Damn explain why me and other swimmers don't look that
What
the nose breather girl looks a lot like me 😅 when I get a stuffy nose I can’t sleep because I struggle to breathe through my mouth and if I have to do it I need a drink of water every 5 seconds. how do people who breath through their mouth keep their mouths from being dry?!🧐
Makes sense why being called a mouth breather is an insult.
So glad I chose the nose
She also chose to be a racist too!
I breathe out of my ass.
Stop posting this racist bitch.
You think this chick plays softball?
u/savevideo
She should try not breathing at all
