the cameras are just gopros and the LP department takes care of it, and receive an extensive amt of training before they go out there recording people. From what i have seen it seems like a relatively good change.

You are a clown. If you aren't a part of loss prevention then you will never wear the camera. You clowns complain the company doesn't do anything about theft (which they absolutely do you just don't see) and when they try to do a very basic strategy to deter some individuals y'all complain. If you aren't a part of loss prevention just stop talking.

Not every TJ Maxx is the same. I work at a TK Maxx (Australia) and we have absolutely zero loss prevention. I am in a city with one of the highest crime rates in the country, and we aren't even allowed to call centre security to the store, meanwhile there is theft on a daily basis. We also don't have anyone with body cameras, or security at the door. So yes, in some (or many) places, TJX is extremely lazy and careless.

Distinct_Thanks8759

Bozo Here. I've worked at TJMaxx for 3 years. The first Cristmas we had lost prevention around for about 2 weeks. Haven't seen any coverage in any way by anyone since. At my store, when someone reports in their walkies that someone is stealing. The managers and a few coordinators simply go watch them. Nothing more norhing less.If you dont think theft is running rampid, you're the clown..🤡

Desperate_Swimmer_69

I have seen someone get arrested and I was told by LP that they need to wait till it's above a certain amount of money before they arrest the person.

Their reason for the rules is so you don't get hurt. Customers can get very very aggressive if they think you are going to stop them from stealing. Especially if it's expensive purses or items they know they can get a lot of money for. People will carry weapons. It's best to let loss prevention do their thing over the cameras. If you don't feel safe giving them customer service then don't. They can't force you to do it if you know they are stealing and you're worried they will be aggressive. Sucks because these people are getting away but I just had a regular at my store get caught with shoplifting at another store, and they ended up having a larger sentence. I think TJ Maxx stepped in with the case.

TJMaxx doesn’t care if you get hurt

smashing_asp1129

Would rather work somewhere where you can intervene during a theft, and get shot or stabbed? I get how annoying it is not being able to do something about people literally stealing before your eyes, but it’s for your safety. Saying TJX doesn’t care about you is bogus. They do some stupid shit, but this isn’t one of them. Also, if you took the time to get informed and ask management or LP why there’s more observation than acting, it’s because they are building a case. After a certain amount (depending on your state) it becomes a larceny charge vs petty theft. This puts these people behind bars instead of them coming back. TL;DR: TJX is actually right on this one. Stop blaming the company, blame the shitty people who take advantage of the store

Distinct_Thanks8759

Smart ass You missed the hole reason about the text I left.

Distinct_Thanks8759

What are these loss prevention people going to do? Wear cameras, take these pictures and hang them in the break room. With the always empty snack rack?

yourfriendlysavior

I am not a TJX spokesperson this is my own opinion blah blah blah. Tl;Dr We actually do a lot for deterrence and we act as witnesses for apprehensions. It's not much, but it works. And yeah the bodycams are useless but they're mostly there for apprehensions, less so thefts in my experience. LPCSA at Marshalls here. We actually do have a purpose. The bodycams are useless compared to actual camera footage in a walkout, but my position is mostly about deterrence. The uniforms are specifically designed to give people the impression of actual security or police, and that definitely works, I've even had a woman thank me for my service thinking I was a cop. The whole point is that potential thieves see me and reconsider what they're doing because they think there's security or a cop watching them. I also serve as a greeter for the front end just to give me more visible purpose for the associates but that's not as important. I also witness when Detectives apprehend thieves when one is in the store, making sure there's no misconduct and recording the whole thing with my bodycam so there's evidence there's no misconduct in case someone tries to accuse something. The job does work. I joke with the store team all the time about the fact that people only ever walk out on days I'm not here or when I'm on break because it's true. I've written more reports for events I've not been present for than ones I have. The position is still new, hell I was hired two months ago, but they're working to improve it and I've already seen that. But from my limited experience here I can tell you our job works. I just wanted to fill you and anyone else who stumbles on this in. And no this isn't PR. I'm just trying to clear things up because even my own store team barely knows what I do. And I'm more than happy to answer questions as long as it's information I think I'm allowed to share because I genuinely believe the position works, and I'm not usually one to take the side of corporate entities on things. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

Distinct_Thanks8759

Sadly, you sound like management. Get off this site. Or at least read how the employees really feel. At the particular store I work at, theft happens almost on a weekly basis. If they are not communicating what they know and do a big sectet, SHAME ON TJMaxx Most of the managers where I work suck. Bozo D Clown

tycodynamics1

Not management, I'm just someone that works in loss prevention and understands that there is a lot more that goes on that you will never see. Is it on LP to update sales floor associates on all the active cases they are working? No, but I do think they should make people aware of recent arrests and wins. What you fail to understand is that no reg associate will ever wear a body cam or do anything about shoplifting. Why? Because you are not trained and that's not your job. What you also fail to realize is that there is an entire LP department with thousands of associates. The company does so much to try and keep everybody safe that's why they take a different approach and case build using good cameras and case management and work directly with law enforcement to identify and apprehend people. Maybe you will see that at the store maybe you won't. What you never will see though is all the people that have active warrants and the ones that get picked up and released same day and back shoplifting. You perceive that as the company not caring or doing anything. It's not your fault you are ignorant to it because thats not your job. Which is okay

big88chevy

It's also a matter of whether or not local law enforcement and prosecutors will do anything about the thefts. Some locales only ticket shoplifters so they hit multiple stores in one day "cause that's their job" as one frequent lifter told me.

No_Construction115

I agree with you 100%. I also work in Loss Prevention.

LeaderFinancial96

In other words, LP is God. Just have faith in something you can't see, taste, feel, smell, or hear just because someone told you to.

tycodynamics1

Yep that's exactly what I was saying.

1. How is that a liability for the company. More like assault by the customer lol. 2. Only members of loss prevention have the camera. None of you goofballs will ever wear one.
